"Wu-Tang Clan is for...major assholes? (swipe)"

I look forward to watching someone try to defend this...this tool hasn't even listened to it yet!

http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/12/martin-shkreli-wu-tang-clan/

Bloomberg has revealed the identity of the person who purchased the lone copy of Wu-Tang Clan’s album The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin. It’s none other than Martin Shkreli, the douchebag CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, aka the guy who made headlines earlier this year after raising the price of a drug used by AIDS and cancer patients from $13.50 to $750 (an increase of 5,000%). Sadly, I’m not making this up.

Turns outs Shkreli forked over $2 million to purchase the album. RZA said the transaction was agreed upon in May, “well before Skhreli’s business practices came to light,” and the group has decided to donate a “significant portion of the proceeds” to an undisclosed charity.

Nevertheless, Shkreli is the owner, and get this: He hasn’t even listened to it yet. “I could be convinced to listen to it earlier if Taylor Swift wants to hear it or something like that,” Shkreli told Bloomberg. “But for now, I think I’m going to kind of save it for a rainy day.”

With Once Upon A Time In Shaolin, RZA hoped to re-establish music as a form of highly prized and sought after art. “The idea that music is art has been something we advocated for years,” explained RZA in an interview with Forbes. “And yet it doesn’t receive the same treatment as art in the sense of the value of what it is, especially nowadays when it’s been devalued and diminished to almost the point that it has be given away for free.”

The 31-track double LP, recorded over the course of several years and featuring guest contributions from Cher, comes encased in a custom-made nickel and silver box and also contains a gold leaf certificate of authenticity as well as a pair of PMC MB2-XBD speakers valued at $55,000. Wu-Tang Clan have placed an 88-year copyright on the album that prevents the owner from mass producing it for commercial sale. Shkreli does, however, have the freedom to release the album for free, but let’s be honest, that’s not gonna happen.

On a side note, Bloomberg reports that Shkreli has also purchased Kurt Cobain’s old Visa card in auction.

Not sure I see that. Getting the Clan together, listening to their input on beats and ideas then making a dope album with a follow-up tour would seem a better way to get everyone paid. How much you think he is actually giving to the Wu members vs. Cilvaringz?

Nah, just another thing RZA has one, in ADDITION to being
the reason those dudes have classic records

So this just another thing that he's done to help them and
their legacy

When Beck uses this model the Lesson will call it brilliant

When you take into account that an act like U2 gets a million just to turn an album in, you could say that Wu kind of got a raw deal.

Obviously they aren't as popular as they once were so relative to their place in the game this is a win financially for them. But there are other acts who make more than 2 million off of their albums over time.

I do like the concept and the idea of having this album be exclusive but other than that it's kind of pointless.

It would be cool if they did a series of these with individual songs like painters did individual paintings as opposed to just one album.

Hold an art show where each song would be in the room accompanied by some type of cover art and people could pay a fee to come in an listen to each song individually while viewing the art and possibly reading a back story. And then each song could be auctioned off with the art work and back story. Then on top of that after everything is said and done, sell all the songs as an album.

That way you make the money from the show, the auction, and record sales all while maintained exclusiveness of the originals.

Why don't you actually try engaging in a discussion instead of acting like a sensitive bitch all the time?

You defend shit when there isn't even a reason to do so.

I simply said they should've gotten more money for the concept and then offered a suggestion in how the plan could've been even better.

Smh...*wait for the ignorant reply*

I hope you know this man personally and he's discussed some of these ideas WITH you, cause you're carrying that torch something serious.

Come to grips with the fact that most OKP's are of the Nut Hugger lineage, so, if you' re not part of the little cliques that exist 'round here, your posts will probably tank like Souljaboy's album sales.

"The buying party also agrees that, at any time during the stipulated 88 years period, the seller may legally plan and attempt to execute one (1) heist or caper to steal back Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, which, if successful, would return all rights to the seller. Said heist or caper can only be undertaken by currently active members of the Wu-Tang Clan and/or actor Bill Murray, with no legal repercussions."

In response to Reply # 20

He laundered Martin's blood-money for him.

Here's how it goes:

1)Someone is sick and needs a drug Pyrimethamine - probably because they have Malaria or AIDS
2)Martin decides - I'll raise the price and gouge them by 5500% and make a shit ton of money
3)$$$PROFIT$$$
3)I'll buy this Wu Tang album from the money that used to belong to sick people but that I have now
4)Martin gives money from sick people to RZA
5)RZA donates "proceeds" (which is the price Martin paid - cost - WHATEVER) to a charity

So Martin gets MONEY and the album.
RZA breaks even (or even +rolling papers and Shaw Brothers DVDs)
Sick ass people are paying 5500% more for drugs.

This is PURE capitalism - and it's sickening.

You sound like one of the prosecutor's who put a man on death row and after 40 years a group of law students spend time researching the conviction and prove the man is innocent and then the prosecutor says "THE SYSTEM WORKS."

I know you're an intentional troll, but seriously FUCK OFF on this one.

Wu-Tang Clan Album Owner Martin Shkreli Details Conflict With RZA & Issues Warning.

Last week, reports emerged of the buyer-seller conflicts surrounding Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon A Time In Shaolin album. The seventh Clan LP, released as one single copy, was revealed to be purchased by controversial pharmaceutical mogul Martin Shkreli. Wu’s abbot, RZA began to criticize the purchase after discovering the 32 year-old millionaire buyer’s history of raising the prices of life-saving drugs. The two men began a public back-and-forth, while the Brooklyn, New York native retains ownership of the historic LP.

“I bought the album. big fucking check in RZA and Cilvaringz’ pocket now,” said the CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals to HipHopDX. In the interview, he elaborated, “This thing is starting to get pretty tense. You probably see that increasingly. I’m getting pretty frustrated by it. I bought the most expensive album in the history of mankind and fucking RZA is talking shit behind my back and online in plain sight. I’m just getting pissed off. That’s not the way I do business. If I hand you $2 million, fucking show me some respect. At least have the decency to say nothing or ‘no comment.’ The guy ‘…before his business practices came to light.’ What the fuck does that mean? I fucking make money. That’s what I do. That’s why I can fucking afford a fucking $2 million album. What do you think I do, make cookies? No, motherfucker. I sell drugs. I felt insulted.” The sentence presumably confirms the speculated purchase price of Once Upon A Time…

In the interview, Shkreli describes plans to reach out to fellow Albanian-American Action Bronson, in the wake of his own conflicts with Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah. Describing his own desire to rap and make music, the execution was unapologetic about his practices and wealth. “I’m staring at a Picasso in my living room right now that’s no different from the Wu-Tang box except it’s about 20 times more expensive. It is what it is. If you sell me some shit, then sell me some shit. If you don’t want to sell it to me then don’t sell it to me.”

Martin also said he is not above putting pressure on his opponents. After describing his street-tough collection practices for a $3 million debt, the 32 year-old turned attentions back to the artist he calls “arrogant.” “I don’t think RZA knows that. I think he thinks I’m some powder puff white guy CEO that’s got too much money. No. No, no, no. I definitely don’t spend $2 million for nothing. That’s a lot of money, even if you’re Carl Icahn. I’d encourage him to shut the fuck up before he goes a little too far. We’ll see what happens. I think he’s a smart man. He definitely acts like his shit doesn’t stink and he invented rap. This concept of selling one album, this shit’s backfiring for him now…”

In the interview, Martin defended his profile as described by Bloomberg. His penchant for music artifacts is seemingly penetrating Hip-Hop closely. “I was at the Tupac auction buying all of Tupac’s manuscripts. It is what it is. If I’m an outsider, I’m an outsider. Dudes will still come up to me and need money for the records. I’ll still be here. I hope I’m accepted, for sure. Like you said, you need swag to pull off the shit I pulled off. To even have Trump call you a spoiled brat. Donald-fucking-Trump called me a spoiled brat. That takes someone special, I think.”

Also in the discussion, Shkreli proposes bailing Bobby Shmurda from jail, trading a copy of Once Upon A Time… for a Kanye West beat, and offers DMX a sum for his next album.

Does this seven-figure buyer change the likelihood of more one-of Hip-Hop albums?

fuck you.
