"1992: Shante "Big mama""

I'm just now hearing this, as I research for my 92 for 92 mix. Why did she go hard at literally every girl in the game on here? Did anyone even care or pay attention to this when it dropped?

As for the "why?", I think it's because she'd been out of the game...

...for a while and wanted to make some noise with her comeback.

It wasn't a big hit or anything, but I think it got sort of noticed. The Source hyped it up. And the targets responded in force, particularly Yo-Yo and MC Lyte. MC Lyte's dis track, "Steady Fucking," is one of the meanest dis tracks I've ever heard:

Shante layed Lyte out in a few lines...Lyte had to record an entire song to get back at her. And to hit her at the jugular which indicates that she got in her feelings about what Shante said.

Might be one of the most vicious female diss tracks I've heard yet. I remember riding with my family on a trip with it playing in the car years back in my teens, their reactions to the song were priceless.

Not only were Shante's barbs harshly humorous, they were mostly true. LOL.

James Brown "Licking Stick" has one of the best basslines ever. I never get tired of it.
