"when did you lose faith in kanye west?"
kanye was great. who doesn't love the blueprint?
his debut album was interesting and fun even if his skills as an emcee were...eh.
then he teamed up with john brion and he brought fully fleshed out arrangements to the table. some moments on LR were as soulful as moments on my favorite soul records.
graduation doesn't cohere as an album to me, but it's tough to argue with the individual songs for the most part.
then 808s happened, which many reasonable ppl love...
i don't, but whatever.
then there were the GOOD Friday tracks that lead up to MBDTF. he had enough material for a double but opted to make it a single.
the stuff that missed the cut were clearly left off because it didn't fit the sound of the album... not because it wasn't grade A Stuff.
Kanye, up to this point, was an artist i trusted. i always felt like he was putting forward his best effort.
but then he took a shit on my stereo by putting his name on a compilation album where he produced no songs, and didn't even stand around the booth for quality control.
i feel like he didn't even listen to the album before he released it. Just said, fuck it... They'll buy it... who cares?
and that made me feel like kanye, as i knew him, was gone.
He was a celebrity now. Not an artist, really.
Then came yeezus, which i still like but it's not the same.
The thrill is gone.
I don't think he feels comfortable experimenting anymore.
That's sad.
But he had a good run.
When did you hop off the kanye train? Do you think he is capable of another great album?

I stopped enjoying his music (mostly) after 808s. He's a miserable person and it shows in his music. Before Donda died he had soul in his music, there was some element of happiness.
I understood the purpose and direction of 808s at the time even if I didn't enjoy it. The loss of his mom, the end of his engagement....I understood all that. Album didn't do it for me, but I appreciated the direction.
I liked and still like some songs/moments on MBDPF, but as a whole I find it to be pretentious and harsh. Outside of a couple tracks, it's just not enjoyable.
Yeezus is trash. I've listened to it a total of 3x and I just can't do it. His whole persona pisses me off and that's all I hear when I listen to his music. The whole "not smiling" thing is like....what? Bro you're damn near 40. Stop acting like a child.
All that said, I say I dunno if I ever "lost faith" per se in him because I think the ability is still there and the fact that he consistently looks to update his sound is a strategy I am always behind even if I don't like the end result. So I'll always check for his stuff.

a lil hope that he'll be able to make dope music in this era that reflects this era. He wants to stay "relevant", but some of his attempts there for a while were sounding pretty terrible to my ears.

for the next record he needs to lock himself in the studio with mike dean, jeff bhasker, cudi and stay away as much as possible from bums like ty $ sign.

Agreed. But then again, Cudi needs to do the same thing. Did you hear the joints he released about a month ago? Horrible

Not in a derogatory manner, but I've never really been invested in his music that way.

Something was off. It just wasn't right. The arrogance from someone on their first album turned me straight off. And the album wasn't nearly as good as the mixtape, which had a bunch of songs that didn't make the record.
I sold it back that same month I think. Never felt the need to listen to it again.
I just don't like dude. Nothing about him or his music is worth my time.
You're such pests...now, what is it you want? In your depths of your ignorance, what is it you want? Well, whatever it is you want, I can't deliver because I just don't see it. - Orson Welles

I've heard the singles he's produced and they're well produced and interesting. He doesn't have any sense of humor to his music, which was the reason his persona and music was so refreshing at the time.
He's the first artist I can think of whose music is so good that it doesn't cancel out the ignorance of the lyrics. My lyrical tastes are pretty conservative, but I dig The Chronic or 99 Problems. Even though Kanye's ignorance isn't on the level as alot of music, his persona turns me off so much I can't tune him out even thought the beats are dope.
