"What y'all think about Nikka Costa?"

I dug her voice, she came out too early to be on that Amy Winehouse wave of female singers that had success. She put out some good music that kinda got no love. Whatcha think?

Her album and Joss Stone's album definitely warmed up audiences for retro, 60's soul and R&B music like Amy and also Adele made.

The idea behind her was cool, but her music never grew on me for some reason.

She had a strong voice and some good songs, but she lacked a marketable persona and a knack for catchy singles. I agree that she helped set the table for Amy and Adele who had those characteristics in spades.

Sleepy time acts and Jack Johnson and a Brother likes to stay awake.

Costa is 3rd tier act in a already watered down era so naw, she ain't showed me much.

she ain't got the right style and vibe.

if She get her hands on some Linda Ronstaldt material then get back to me.
without her pops connections this Sing would have been like Fergie during her Wild Orchard days.

I very much agree. I loved Pebble to a Pearl quite a bit and couldn't quite put my finger on why she didn't catapult. She has a very learned soul/r&b sound, which doesn't tend to extend beyond the sort of Van Hunt/Meshell Ndegeocello sort of music circles I think. I hope she puts out more material in the future though, honestly.

Perfect description of her vibe-she has a "very learned soul/r&b sound".

It sounds and fells less than 100% authentic for whatever that's worth.

That being said, she puts on a good show (I was lucky enough to see her for first time at a small venue- the Canal Room), has some good songs, a sexy little wiggle on stage and has decent enough vocal chops.

She's cool....
