A bicycling accident in Central Park, in which U2’s singer, Bono, was injured, has forced the band to cancel its weeklong residency on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The first of the group’s five appearances on the show was to have been Monday evening. But in a short message posted on the U2 website on Sunday, the band (minus Bono) announced the postponement.
“It looks like we will have to do our ‘“Tonight Show’ residency another time — we’re one man down. Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We’re sure he’ll make a full recovery soon, so we’ll be back!”
The message did not say when the accident occurred, but NBC was still running advertisements for the appearance late Saturday evening. NBC has not yet announced replacements for U2 or new dates for the group’s residency.
