For those who care, worth noting that Sam Amidon has a new record out on Nonesuch called Lily-O. A bunch of the tracks feature Bill Frisell, which is quite fitting considering the latter's own ventures into various eddies of the Americana/folk canon...
Best part about it is: it works. (At least, it worked for me on my first listen.) And it gives Amidon a slightly different sound... his last record seemed like he was pushing the "nu" classical associations a little too hard. The partnership with Frisell seems to have rejuvenated him a bit.
Also: the album is dark. Darker than normal Amidon (which can get quite dark but is always dressed in ribbon, because that's kind of what he does). Case in point: the title track.
I'll post some links later if I can track them down, but if you're an Amidon fan, go grab it asap.
