>But the apathy for 50 these days is real. > >I blame it on several things: > >1.) He built too much of his credibility early on on record >sales/success. As a result, when he loses his hotness, he >loses his credibility. > >2.) His retail catalog is incredibly inconsistent. Dude hasn't >even touched GRODT. Massacre and Curtis were underwhelming, >and even though I think Before I Self Destruct was better, it >was too little too late. > >3.) To continue the theme of too little too late, 50 hasn't >grown as an artist at all. Up until maybe some of the more >recent singles, he's essentially been making the same music as >he was on GRODT, save for a couple poppier singles. Fans >demand a.) more personal material these days, which 50 won't >deliver, and b.) as much as people complain about wanting "the >old" Kanye or Jay Z or Eminem, the game requires stars to >reinvent themselves. 50's music has just been boring until >very recently, making people lose interest. > >4.) With so much of his persona being based on being a >villain/bully, people aren't going to root for him to win >anymore. These days, fans more than ever want someone to buy >into and something to stand for, along with songs they like. >Even if 50 manages to get the latter, he doesn't really have >fans in the U.S. on his side anymore. > >5.) Dude is old by rap standards. > >6.) As far as the G Unit reunion goes, I think people just >aren't interested in the group anymore. Especially considering >that it seems like he's only doing it out of desperation to >capture attention. It isn't like he's reuniting with G Unit >for the nostalgia; he's doing it because not much else is >working. > >That said, I liked Animal Ambition, and these new G Unit >freestyles are dope too. Hopefully he can keep that up.
7) And…if he does commercial material, people won't like it….ie Candy Shop. If he does "gangsta shit", it just comes across as so fake. He could pull that off pre-GRODT, but not now at all. Look at the pics in the GRODT CD now and it looks absurd, like a comic book gangsta rap parody.
