If he had actually did a few more albums in the vein. Then it could have been seen as a start of one of the many phases in his career. But, it ended up just being a one-off.

Will probably end up being one of his rarest albums when it's all said and done.

Come to grips with the fact that most OKP's are of the Nut Hugger lineage, so, if you' re not part of the little cliques that exist 'round here, your posts will probably tank like Souljaboy's album sales.

But because he never did anything else in that vein, I completely forgot about it.

Revisiting these past few days and I really like it.

I love that Sound Directions album. YNQesque with horns... why do you regard it so low?

I bought it because I was stanned out at the time but only ever played it once. Not a dub step fan.

What sub-genre was Madlib mimicking?

Broken Beat? Dubstep? Nujazz?

This is a genuine question because my knowledge of all those things is very minimal.

Well that's how I felt about it but didn't think it was very good cause none of it was clean or polished, just dirty beats in that style.

Broken Beat. At the time he was throwing like New Sector Movements into mixes and stuff and referencing that scene in his interviews - I've always kind of seen him as a dabbler in all these different genre, and so some part of Madlib appreciation is kind of like letting go and learning to appreciate the sprawling almost-stream-of-consciousness that is his music.

He managed to do techno and broken beat with a twist of his own.

Also, I STILL want the Spectrum 77 stuff he promised years ago.
