I bought it because I was stanned out at the time but only ever played it once. Not a dub step fan.

What sub-genre was Madlib mimicking?

Broken Beat? Dubstep? Nujazz?

Well that's how I felt about it but didn't think it was very good cause none of it was clean or polished, just dirty beats in that style.

Broken Beat. At the time he was throwing like New Sector Movements into mixes and stuff and referencing that scene in his interviews - I've always kind of seen him as a dabbler in all these different genre, and so some part of Madlib appreciation is kind of like letting go and learning to appreciate the sprawling almost-stream-of-consciousness that is his music.
