There used to be a real live creative energy here with people in one place discussing, sharing, peeping, collabing, critiquing, and studying music. You could learn more about Coltrane, celebrate Prince, understand new things about Stevie Wonders recording process, have your own beats critiqued, gain tips, learn what moves people, discover new artists, make connections, build skills, and become better versed all in one interwoven interaction.
You had people who were just music lovers and people who were music makers (pros, hobbyists, novices, etc) all in one place, drawn by the glow of possibilities and an actual "scene" of sorts. This gave everyone a chance to really engage and build in an exciting way.
Once some ppl got bent out of shape over maybe a few too many "peep my beat" threads for their taste, the overreaction was stifling, Soviet, and it snuffed the life out.
If you want real vibrance and vitality in any community, you have to accept some level of messiness and annoyance.
You cant partition these things, block them off, obsess over neatness and expect life to thrive
