"Why isn't there more effort for HOLIDAY/ SEASONAL Songs?"

Outside of Christmas, everybody and they mom got a Christmas album and it Nary impossible to write a new Christmas classic ( speaking of what's the " newest "Christmas classic? mariah Carey jawn? From 20 years ago?)

But do artist really try anymore to have a song that happens to go with a certain time of year?
Like how mike has two ( thriller and that Rockwell jawn for halloween )

Or Will Smith has "summertime" for...well...summertime.

If I was a singer I'd want to try to get a couple of sings that garuntee me spins every year like clockwork and end up in an Old Navy Commercial.

Gotta be residual heaven

i think there's effort every yr. it's just that few of those songs actually stick.

i agree that the last Xmas song added to the canon was 'All I Want For Xmas Is You'.

fuck you.

beautiful beat, hook, etc. but it should have either been a huge smash, in Macy's Christmas commercials & shit or a classic Dipset comeback song. instead we got a random joint w/CyhiDa Prynce

...they just fail badly 99% of the time. Something about writing a holiday or seasonal song tends to flip the CORNY switch for many an artist that is otherwise decent.

there's a certain sound that makes a song a summertime hit. It's not always the same sound, but there are going to be certain elements that make it work for that time of year (major keys, no complex chord changes, lyrics about having a good time, danceable rhythm, works well at either full volume for dancing or background music for picnics and shit).

Likewise I find a certain tone I usually call 'shimmery' works really well with autumnal music. It's like the aural equivalent of those 60 degree days where it's warm enough but windy, the leaves are coming down in color, and the sky is so blue, but it's going to be nippy tonight.

One of the classics for that feeling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3RMut_8IxQ - that whole album is the perfect autumnal listening experience (to me).

I don't know that there's any non-holiday vibe that works for winter, or any vibe at all that makes me think spring.
