"Yo. R Kelly Is a GENIUS. Max you were right *lady gaga*"

this man been in the game since before I damn near hit puberty, and he jumps on this record with Lady Gaga and sounds as modern as anything.

Prince hasnt been able to do it...NO OTHER artist has been around as long as Kellz and kept relevant. Here is a snippet of the song he and GAGA did together, and it sounds AMAZING!!

if you have a limited well of information to draw from in regards to music, specifically rap and R&B only and even then it's debatable at best

and is still relevant, guesting on this and that, still making albums that make noise, AND can be played on the radio......NOW!!!!

Now Prince COULD be relevant but hes so stuck on being Prince, he wont come out to play. And when he does its with marginal acts like cyberlady and his no-name girl puppets. Prince couldnt get on the radio if he bought a radio and crawled up inside it.

you said at first 'no artist has ever been around as long as R\Kelly and been as relevant' and now you're saying 'who is out now that's been doing it as long and still guesting on albums'
none of that equals a genius of any sort, but what is your argument exactly?

it's not like he set the world on fire with public announcement.
it was good, not great.

he also fell of for a minute after he made chocolate factory.
you always use some creative math for your "r. kelly's been dominating for 25 yrs line."

which is fine, as long as you're consistent.
if you're gonna give r. kelly credit for ALL 25 years,
you at least have to give credit to jay from "reasonable doubt" forward.
maybe it didn't dominate, but it was definitely making a dent.

there are NO artists with longevity without dry spells.

MJ was washed up for a while in the mid 70s.
Aretha was washed up several times.
Stevie wonder almost got dropped from Motown.

please try to be consistent.
your fuzzy math kills me.

the only mistep in that time frame was " the Best of Both Worlds" with Jay Z other than that he was bringing it.

Kellz was hit and miss from 05-09 though he had some cuts.

10-12 love letter and write me back were tight.

i ain't even talking about his work for other artists and hitting with a whose who.

commercial drought that all big acts hit...Because record sales is what you always go to, right? That's your thing...

Untitled has yet to go gold...

Love Letter has yet to go gold...

Write Me Back hasn't sold over 200 K yet...

What this means is Kelly is just like any veteran superstar act...

Unless of course you've changed your mindset and you no longer care about how many records an album has sold as it pertains to the greatness of an artist...

No opinion...Just the facts...

U not getting it....I don't care if Love Letter sold two copies...I just know it was a good album...

I don't have to hide behind record sales and hits to know if someone is a talented artist or not...'

But you do...

So the figures u gave me....If I went by your views on what makes a successful artist I would come to the conclusion that Kelly hasn't gone platinum on his last three efforts (nor gold on two of those efforts)...Which in your world means Robert Kelly no longer matters, right?...The whole "I like my artists with hits, turkey!!!" thing you always throw in people's faces...The irony...

That's what you say about other artists, right?

I'm going by YOUR standards, right?

Because in my world whether Kelly goes wood or platinum, I judge the man on the quality of his actual output.....

and nobody pays you no mind when it comes to Kellz no way.

you already know. I been down with Kellz musically if the stuff went Wood or Platinum.

if you follow what i have said I have said he is the best and he makes the best music. sorry if the wack public ain't acknowledging the baddest Musical Genius of our time. their loss if they don't buy.

of course I'd like him to sell more records and be acknowledged for his musical Greatness because when he is gone folks gonna wish they had acknowledged his Greatness while he was alive.

i roll with Kellz hits or not. got all of his albums, stuff for others that hit or didn't so Miss me with trying to even come at me on this, especially when I single handly ran a Kellz tribute thread in here 5 years back and i got all those songs some hit and some didn't.

you need to stay out of Kellz threads because you don't know a word you speak on of the music matters

I don't care if you are a Kells superfan...I'm not questioning your level of support for dude...I'm glad that there is somebody that goes hardcore STAN for an artist (and that's no diss either...) That's some old school music fan, shit

I'm just pointing out your hypocrisy...

For years you have dogged out artists for not going platinum...For not hitting commercially...For no longer being radio monsters...

Your thing has always been obsessively dissing, say, Prince fans for supporting an act that was past his commercial prime...But when I point out that for the three releases Kells has struggled to barely go gold you react like I'm calling Jesus Christ a motherfucker...(And trust me, Maxx....we will undoubtedly count Black Panties in that low sales mix...Kells has already pushed back Black Panties after his first two singles failed to make noise...It happens to every veteran act sooner or later...)

Hopefully you will finally get this point...Kelly is now in the same boat as Stevie, Prince, Aretha, and Mary J...

The question is, will Kelly be able to find a third wind in the same way that Prince, Neil Young, and a few others have had....Will Kells become a touring monster widely respected for his talents rather than whether or not he/she is still selling a shit load of albums and connects with the youth....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

well look he ain't got a money track for black panties. we talk about it on the kellz site daily.

he got a monster hit with gaga and that remix with the phoenix had buzz and i know he wants to do something differently as well.

BP got some good and cool things however he ain't got that money track. kellz always been about quality and also hit material as he himself said toward the end on the song happy people. he has had that rare ability to have quality and also hits. for better or for worse depending on where you stand with it, trapped in the closet has consumed alot of him. label politics as well and i know he is tweaking bp. it will sell, however he needs a statement solo joint.

i heard the steppers xmas cut for the best man soundtrack.

cool,cool

This has nothing to do with money tracks, homie...This has to do with the music business cycle...Pretty soon all artists hit that moment when the kids no longer buy up everything they produce...

Kells is in the same boat...

Again, all I want for you to understand is you are being a hypocrite...Or at the very least rolling with a double standard...

The truth is Kelly's sales have dipped dramatically on his last three albums and that has nothing to do with the quality of at least two of those albums (Write Me Back and Love Letter), which to me stand amongst Kelly's work...Kelly made two albums that shut a lot of his detractors up...He deserved Grammy's for those two albums...

The irony is the artist that you continue to diss (Prince) has the type of career that most artists would die for....He is not beholden to a massive record label...He tours when he wants to...Releases music when he wants to...He still sells out shows whenever he hits the stage...He continues to be named amongst the greatest acts of all time...And he has the respect of the entire music industry....

Kelly is a at a crossroads...I think he may be on to something with the festival shows...But I want to see him headline his own tour and knock it out the park...He certainly has the talent to pull it off...

but that again is an IF...

Kellz made two back to back Grown albums which ain't gonna sell because they aren't for the modern radio. he did them on purpose.

when a woman loves and feelin single ain't geared for what he usually gears things for.

he does this. he ain't in the same boat as no relic like Prince and please stop putting R.Kelly down like that.

R.Kelly left Prince long ago period.

like i said Real R.kelly fans know he ain't got that money track and that is the bottom line. if he had that track he would sell off jump

you so wrong it ain't even funny because ARRUh fans know the track he needs to set off Black Panties ain't their. the cuts previewed are cool to decent, however they ain't that Classic Kellz where he ran Radio

FYI Prince ain't doing nothing that Frankie Beverly and Maze ain't done for like 20 years straight. Yeah Prince ain't got no choice Homie because he burned bridges with almost all the major labels and nobody with a sane brain cell will give him a extra dime for weak material.

Prince done tried more ways at a comeback than Sugar Ray Leonard, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan combined.

nobody wants to see no Lenny Creole and the No Go Go's aside from Prince stans. that garbage can't even pack a Safeway parking lot Ok?

wack songs that can't even fetch 44 cents let alone 88 cents

look when i was a Kid Prince was badd and I dig him back then, however he is Kid's stuff, my grown up tastes listens to R.kelly and Kellz for the Grown folks.

Prince too old and corny still talking about a Screwdriver?? turkey dropping that hot garbage.

R got a hit right now with Lady Gaga Nuff said. Kellz got the respect of the Industry as well.

dude stil writing and working with a whose who.

you can't name too many Black acts who are 20 plus years in and he can do his thing, do hip hop and whatever else he wants to period.

all it takes is that cut and he will be alright.

like i said I know about Kellz and I know the right cut is what will shut it down.

Love Letter and Write me back were strong, however i also knew they were geared for the Oprah set.

he is so versatile and scary with it that he can switch lanes like that.

he gonna be alright. dude is packing houses in Africa and other places.

more acts would want R.Kelly's career than Prince's. i mean Kelly is more consistant and that is a fact.

Prince is to erratic and for all that vault talk and this or that, that turkey been stuck in the 80's.

turkey just buying time to cash in on Purple rain turning 30 that's all.

nobody wants them crappy albums in a newspaper. if folks could flush them junks down the toilet they would have. Prince been washed up for years and just been in cruise control for 20 years.

U know what's funny? Prince's last album with a big label (3121) managed to sell more or just as many copies as the R's last three releases...And he's been at it much longer...

All this to say is I see where u r coming from in terms of your opinion of Prince...U hate him...U think his music over the last 15 years or so has been wack...U even think his prime decade is overrated...U think he was a fluke...I dig it...I will never call you out for your opinion on Prince's actual output good or bad...Because I will never win that debate...

But I will call you out for being a blatant hypocrite as it pertains to you calling out other acts for selling poorly and not scoring radio hits when Kelly has barely gone gold on just one of his last three albums (the other two haven't even gone gold yet...I'm just using your way of thinking...don't mind me...)

You can talk all that grown man silliness if you want...I'm just going to watch you dance and look foolish trying to get out of this one...

and they out sold that corny 3121. Kellz ain't get no saturday night live offer, super bowl offer, and he still won.

Prince 80-87 was his peak and prime. however once he lost folks around him, he fell off bad.

you can't say the same for kellz.

12 play self title blue album classic

tp2,chocolate factory and happy people classic

love letter and write me back classic

3 different eras yo.

nobody cares about them frisbee's Prince been out over the past 20 plus years but you purple diabetics.

turkey got with target? "untitled" is pushing toward 400,000.

3121 didn't outsell no tp3. time period to time period.

putting records in newspapers with doggy bones and half off coupons don't count either.

turkey just buying time to cash in on purple rain 30.

he ain't got nothing, new and nobody cares. meanwhile R.Kelly still got that Star Power, him and gaga got a massive joint right.

meanwhile prince and janelle Monet might get a box of twenkies off that corny song they done.

prince was cool when i was a kid, however he never grew as a artist and he never expanded like R.Kelly. like i said prince is for the kids, however R.Kelly is the grown ups.

Of course I'm using the last three releases...And Black Panties will be included...trust me.....

Kelly came out with his solo debut in 1993....He has managed to have 14 years of hit making (not including his work with Public Announcement)...From 1993 to 2007....Very impressive...

His work after that has struggled commercially (again, using your own ammo)...he has not been a hit with the "kids"...

But what Kelly has done is what most veterans do to keep their heat up...He hooks up with the HOT ASS BLOND on the stroll...he does a song with Phoenix...Does a song with Lady Gaga...This has been Kelly's way of doing things...Whether it's with Jay-Z or with the The-Dream....He collaborates with the hottest act to keep that heat on him...

So to put that all in perspective....

14 years does not measure up to the run Stevie Wonder had...Does not measure up to Aretha Franklin's run...Does not measure up to Marvin Gaye's run...Does not measure up to Michael Jackson's run...And does not measure up to Prince's run (For all your talk about Prince being washed up in the '90s, dude still sold a lot of albums in that decade...And in the '00s, The Midget has had one double plus platinum album and one gold album....)...

So what I'm saying is Kelly is not doing anything new in terms of his longevity...

But more importantly, the fact that Kelly has struggled to do his usual numbers since 2009 should give you pause to stop with all the "I like my artists with hits" bullshit...

Kelly has hit the wall just like all other established acts...

The question is now...What will he do next?

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Kellz been on the charts since 92 and fast forward 21 years later he still got a pressence.

MJ had a run from 69-01. just got bored basically and I know this from first hand, because if he wanted to, he could have kept on at it.

Stevie Wonder 60's,70's and 80's.

Prince only really in the 80's. hit and miss in the 90's. no hits in 20 years, try again you lost.

Aretha Franklin 60's,70's and 80's.

R.kelly 90's,00's,11's Turkey.

R.kelly had a longer run than Prince turkey.

Him and Jigga was a decade ago. and it didn't do one thing or another with his greatness.

him and the dream, nobody is paying much attention.

Kellz and the Phoenix is like 20 years in his career, same with Gaga,

and FYI Kellz did the thing with Celine Dion years ago.

turkey you is full of it, Prince ain't have no 14 year run more like 7 get your facts right.

MJ prime and Peak was 79-91 12 years.

Stevie 72-80 close to 10.

It's interesting how you are twisting yourself in knots over this...

U notice that I'm not dismissing your opinion on Kells or his music...U notice I'm not saying you are right or wrong concerning your thoughts on his latest work...

I'm dealing with facts and all you got is "turkey"...

Beyond the fact that I actually know more about R. Kelly than u will ever know (ironic, right?), this is not about playing a game of Super STAN...I know you are the biggest supporter of Kells on the planet...

And I also know that Kells has hit the wall just like all other veteran acts...Whether its no money tracks as you like to say (isn't that part of an act's decline?) or the fact that a younger generation of fans have moved on, it is what it is....

Like I said, it's going to be interesting to see what happens when Black Panties is released...Will you prop up the music because YOU like it...Or will you claim that the label is not pushing his project correctly..Or will you claim that it failed because it has no money tracks (whatever the fuck that means...lol)...

I'm betting that you will continue to act like Kells hasn't had a real "R. Kelly" hit in almost over five years...

Interesting....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

when he has the right tracks he hits, its that simple. i could care less what you say because when a Artist has the right tracks they hit period.

R.Kelly just has to have that money track and do his best.

problem with you is that you have no standards and also you are one of the worst writers when it comes to R.kelly.

i know you know about the track with R.Kelly and Mary J Bliege already for her next album.

you think you know so much well since you know so much please speak on how he got all those tracks put on projects back in 03?

and because i feel sorry for you I'll give you a huge hint there is a MJ connection.

you can't tell me much on this turkey.

truth is he sold about what he should.

Untitled was a dece nt album not memorable and missing a Sho Nuff cut..

Love Letter at best would go Platinum because its a throwback project and young heads ain't gonna break the neck to get it.

old school Kellz fans want the freaky, soul

Write me back was good though it felt like it should have been a double album to connect with love letter. and truth was it was meant to be that way.

powers that be are spending loot on chris brown, usher and timberlake.

though i still say that Kelly has to bring it musically.

its on him period.

i know what I'm talking about and I know Kelly ain't feeling things on a whole, he just ain't gonna cry about it loudly.

He wrote and Produced for Aaliyah

Worked with Fat Joe

wrote and Produced on Twista when Twista at the time was on the sidelines trying to get back in.

matter of fact Kellz wrote and worked with Do Or Die. Magic Chick was the joint.

Kellz working with Lady Gaga is like well 20 plus years into his career. and it ain't like Gaga doesn't need a hit because her last record didn't make alot of noise.

she went to the Kang for that hit.

Jay Z hiding behind Beyonce and others because his stock done fell and he always been riding with whomever was happening. Kayne and timberlake are his aprons.

Jay Z still talks about Kellz til this day, meanwhile Kelly doesn't even give the Camel the time of day.

jimmy jam and terry lewis, Rick Reuben,
and maybe the rolling stones, bob dylan, and a few other legacy acts...

>this man been in the game since before I damn near hit
>puberty, and he jumps on this record with Lady Gaga and sounds
>as modern as anything.
>
>Prince hasnt been able to do it...NO OTHER artist has been
>around as long as Kellz and kept relevant.

r. kelly was relevant in the 90's, the 00, and he's still relevant halfway into this decade.
that's 25 years.

MJ debuted in 1969 with I want you back.
he had a run of J5 and solo hits, had a smash with dancing machine,
and then hit pay dirt with OTW at the end of the 70s.

obviously he owned the 80s.

his last mega album was "dangerous" in the early 90s,
but he continued to have megastar sales and top ten singles
all the way into the 00s, with his last album debuting at number 1 and selling
over 10 million copies.

miles davis changed the course of jazz several times
and was stayed relevant for the vast majority of his recording career.

Aretha Franklin was a smash on Atlantic in the 60s, and a run of classic albums in
the 70s, had pop hits in the 80s, and still sounded fresh in the 90s when lauyn hill produced a smash for her.

Stevie had hits in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

The Isley brothers have had hits in just about every decade there has been popular music as we know it.

Quincy Jones was a legendary jazz arranger and movie score composer
that had hits in just about ever decade as well.

Producers like Jimmy Jam and terry Lewis maid noise in the 80s, the 90s, the 00s,
and even had production credits on Usher's smash hit "confessions." Rick Reuben is
in the conversation, too.

and if you count concert sales and critically acclaimed albums,
then legacy acts like the stones, springsten, johny cash, prince, and several others are in the conversation as well.

R. Kelly ain't the only artist that had a 25+ career run.
He's in an elite group, but he has plenty of company.

Here is a snippet
>of the song he and GAGA did together, and it sounds AMAZING!!

Few things....

1. How is Kells' genius validated from a small snippet of a song with Lady Gaga that he just simply jumped on?

2. Did folks really need to hear this Gaga song to know that Kells is/was a genius? Didn't his fans already figure that out by listening to his own previous efforts?

3. What does Prince or any other act have to do with Kelly collaborating on a Gaga song? And again how does that equal genius? That would be as silly as someone claiming that, say, Prince's performance (below) on Janelle Monae's latest album solidifies his genius...As with Kelly, wouldn't that just make it an interesting callabo rather than some grandiose, genius statement?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21X7ALvwN8Y

Oh yeah...stop trolling...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Prince trying to pimp them reject three's company white no Go Go's and nobody is spending 44 cents on them wack tracks let alone 88 cents.

so yeah R WOn and still keeps on winning.

Kellz going to Bring GaGa back with a big hit and he got it.

however I been known Kellz is a Musical Genius and the baddest Artist out of Chicago and he can't be faded.

U would def. need half a brain to come to that assumption...

But on the real, to each its own..I like Kells enough...I just think it's no longer needed for you to force everyone to see that Kelly is better than Prince or any other act...

If you feel that way, bully for you, homie...

No harm, no foul...

i was supporting what dude had posted to start this thread thats all.

ain't many artists has had the run that Kellz has had period.

i mean on the real most acts in R&B with his type of run are from Motown records. thats what makes his run even more impressive when you think about it.

i ain't no bully about things, because i talk in the modern tense and not in the past tense.

we cool Man, no harm and certainly no foul. Peace

he would still have some hits.

Marvin though did have a long run in the 60's,70's and 80's and that is a fact. he ain't a good example because of circumstances and also his success and impact.

hit reset and try again Homie.

I didn't hear a joke, though...

U essentially made two threads (one in the Lesson and one in GD) about Kelly being a genius because he popped up on a Gaga song...And this was all done from a snippet...

That's pretty silly, no?

And on the real dog, I'm not even trying to diss...I made my point without disrespect or overt seriousness...

My troll comment was about the cherry on top u added about Prince, which at this point is weird...What does Prince or any other act have to do with any of this? U could have said you loved Kelly's callabo with Gaga and do you...And believe me, I would have made the same post if you swapped Prince for say Stevie Wonder, Badu, Nas or whoever...

I like jokes...I like humor...But there was nothing Henny Youngman about your post...Unless I missed something...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

I guess that's the reason...Because I don't see why on earth anyone would bring up Prince or any other act in that situation....Like we have fun on this board and we all have our favorites...

But it's not like we just saw footage of Kells killing it onstage with a kick ass band; or we heard something from the new album that's on the level of say anything on the Chocolate Factory...

I mean, if it makes Maxx and dude feel good, let 'em have it...

even if stevie blew prince out of the water in every category
(they are tied, IMO) that still doesn't explain why
prince is a "relic" and stevie is not.

neither one will release a classic anytime soon.
neither one HAS released a classic in recent memory.

stay focused.

the last time he cracked the top 10 on the r&b charts was 1992.
the last time he had an omnipresent smash was 1985 with part time lover...

although his singles get some play on adult contemporary r&b radio whenever he drops a album, he has all but vanished from the charts and hasn't been on top of the zeitgeist for 20 if not 30 years.

Sonics are cool. Crispy hats and that fluttery synth thing is cool. And those slap bass notes add a cool texture too. Should be a hit. Gaga singing better than usual.

MJ
stevie wonder
prince
marvin gaye
p-funk
earth wind and fire
temptations
four tops
the police
the stones
the beatles
steely dan
diana ross
ghostface
nas
jay
john mayer
kanye west

okay... that's enough.
that's just a list off the top of my head.

having read that list...
can you name an artist i named that is not either dead, commercially non-existent,
or at least 10 (if not 20, if not 30) years past their creative peak?

seriously.
they're all relics of a bygone era.
what's wrong with that?

nothing.
happens to everybody.

Cmon fam.

Let people like what they like without the insults.

He's just praising a song by a pop star. Meanwhile you got mad enough to leave
the site over folks not liking another pop star... yet you insult him. -_-
