As evidenced with his exclusion from Undun.
As evidenced by his continual releasing of low quality versions of albums, charging too much for them, then releasing the same material months later with better quality and a lower price.
As evidenced by his (or so I've heard) terrible stage show.

I really like Blu... but he makes it hard to follow him. He's all over the place.

that said he is one of my favorite MCs to debut post 90s, I'm a big fan of allot of his material. I'd say I'm looking forward to his next project but since dude rarely announces stuff.....I'll just hope he randomly drops something soon so I can cop it hahaha

though I personally think even if Blu was good at business and all that stuff he wouldn't be able to get HUGE just due to the kind of stuff that usually makes artists HUGE right now. He would have a bigger fanbase though definitely.

Well yeah.. There's that, too

If he did those things you're saying he doesn't do, Blu coulda parlayed his way into Wale's spot. Lol

Thank God that didn't happen.

But if he just did him yet showed a bit more professionalism and ambition, he could be seeing maybe Curren$y or Bronson llevel notoriety. Or is that where he's already at? I can't tell.. Perhaps all it takes these days is an ALC produced LP/mixtape to get to that level. I mean I think he's better than all that, but I doubt he gives a fuck. He seems to be happy drinking/smoking/writing/recording. Like.. If dude blew up, he'd have to finally buy a car and wouldnt be able to rap about not having a car anymore. Prolly get a DUI and shit.

He's definitely a great writer and one of the most talented rappers out there. I'll always check for his music.

I can dig it....seen dude live out here once, and yeah, his live show was kinda lackin, but as far as releases, duke always comes with the lyrics, concepts over mostly hot beats...can't really speak to his business practice, but what people are saying seems on-point....let's see what comes next...super talented brother....

Blu says the deal was for an album and a film....but why make an album that is SO left field that the label wouldn't release it? Wouldn't it make more sense to make a couple records to fit in to at least get the whole vision in the film?

Did he or WB just stop caring at some point?
Did Blu really think he could change things?
Did Blu know it wasn't gonna pop for real, and just needed the extra $? Because he made an indie hip-hop album (I liked NoYork btw) on a major label budget.

Dirty Science

Also, Miguel & Blu were a common team-up on other features like Dilla's "Sun in my Face", Miguel aka Miguel Jontel aka Jontel was also on J&J with Blu. I think there's a few more random singles and b-sides with them together as well.

White gumps might buy tickets and albums for 9ine and Insane Clown Posse...but they're the kiss of death for "credibility".

Blu never really had a chance to get his street cred out of backpackerville.

His 1st major label feature was on a Roots album... Wale caught on and HE was on a Roots album too.

See how this works.

Getting album placements and putting out albums? You mean blow up like become a huge act? Cuz I don't think that was ever his aim, Below the Heavens wasn't even that type or album.
