Pac fans are wayyyy worse. On the west coast, you'd think he's Rakim.

I'm from the West, liked Pac, but his shit has NOT aged well.

How many times can you rhyme "nigga" with "trigga"?
"enemies" with "Memories"?

The list goes on and on.

From rappers who wanna rap & look like 2pac to fans who swear Tupac is still alive but hidden out under a new identity to rock & country music listeners who only listen to one rap artist which happens to be 2pac, that right there is the reason why 2pac's fans/stans are the worst to me.

Especially a lot of remixes:

Jamiroquai
LSK Hate Or Love
Daft Punk feat SV
Rhian Benson

The scary thing is that they appear on bootleg vinyls in his name and all. Nobody does their research anymore, I guess.

im a "dilla fan" as you so eloquently put it
and i've never felt the need to rock a "dilla changed" shirt or
play "ping pong" with someone who does not see what i see when it comes to dilla.
i keep my dilla stan mode to myself. there is no need to go back and forth..
i just wish more folks would do the same.. i mean dude was nice with it but cool it man..

Pac fans always seem to overlook the fact that pac was born and raised on the east coast....

Part of that is because pac seemed to forget that fact a lot himself.

Dilla fans can be annoying with that smugness.... "I know every dilla beat"... that and a dollar still wont buy you a juice box...

You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

It was that they wound up sort of resembling each other in skintone, hairstyles and wardrobe, and they were both extreme talents with top quality crossover output in roughly the same genre at basically the exact same moment in time.

This seems like the right place to talk about this.

First of all, Dilla is my favorite producer and all of that, so don't confuse that. But I got really turned off by the hardcore fans of his on soulseek. My experience goes like this:

This was some time in mid-2010 that I learned about soulseek which is this peer-2-peer music sharing software platform. This was when I was really trying to get EVERYTHING of his. I'm talking any loosey or beat tape or demo from 1994 and what have you. I wanted it ALL. Not because I was trying to complete a collection to impress people or anything, but because this guy's got really good shit that only a few people have. Some of my favorite beats of his are super rare ones that I was able to get through this soulseek thing. But let me tell you a few things about these guys that I got them from:

1. They're total elitist assholes who pride themselves on having music of his that others don't. Like "I got the 97 Tape yo I'll give it to you... if you can gimme something I don't have!" You actually had to BARGAIN with these fucks, as a fellow fan, in order to hear their super secret Dilla shit. That 97 Tape I mentioned actually exists and I was never able to get it because the dude that had it didn't wanna share. I shit you not. He didn't wanna give it to others. That's the type of person you're dealing with.

2. They're actually not really all that smart. They buy into these weird names and things like Hiccuped Classix vol XX or "Old Donuts". They refer to tapes by those dogshit names that are very obviously not what Dilla called them. Not only that, but you should see some of the names that the beats in them were called. I'm talking things like "sum spooky shit" and "Zelda 2" when it isn't even sampling Zelda. I digress, but shit like that really annoys me.

3. They're completely unorganized and very often have no idea about how Dilla progressed as a producer. Like I was mentioning with the names before, they did as best they could to completely mangle the order of which he released things. Some tapes would clearly omit beats that should've been in there. Some tapes were labeled with the wrong fucking year (the 2005 tapes? Two of them weren't even made in 2005). I personally had to sort through the nonsense they perpetuated and reorder, relabel and repackage them in order to maintain any historical accuracy and basic sanity as a minorly OCD Dilla fan.

4. They had RULES. I got the 1996 Tape on the condition of not being allowed to put any of it on Youtube (!). I used to throw up some of his shit on Youtube because as a true fan I didn't want anyone else to have to go through the garbage I did in order to hear some dope beats. But, no, the shit I had was TOO EXCLUSIVE for Youtube. Can you believe that shit???

Sigh... hahaha man just thinking about that shit pisses me off. I'm just a fan trying to access his art and I have to suck a dick in order to hear some shitty tape converted Slum Village demos. That's not a real fanbase man. It isn't.

Fuck those guys.

I won't say who the offenders were (well, except wallychamp, fuck that shitslammer) but a few of them are mods/artists here and post semi-regularly
it was pretty much the same deal, making threads and whatnot about it, but they wouldn't share the tapes with anyone

Just people who get pleasure in having things others want. I personally would send anyone anything if they asked cause that's what I would want someone to do for me. Unfortunately, that rarely happened in that circle of good for nothing lowlifes.

Dilla is still the man and I'll listen to him for the rest of my life, but it really cut a deep wound into the whole thing knowing that his "fans" were like that. Now I get why G Popp hates on em so much, they're just miserable fucks.

Man the whole Dilla business since his death has been so badly done that it's kinda ruining it all, now that I think about it.

I would think a true fan would LOVE to share some stuff that he knows no one else is on. That on the strength of spreading the word and seeing others enjoy what you enjoy. I know whenever someone is looking for a hard to find song/album that I have in my possession, I have no problem sharing because I know what it's like to search far and wide for a hard to find joint and that feeling of gratitude and glee you get when someone hooks you up with it. Outside of making a promise to an artist or a friend of an artist that you won't leak said artist's material that he/she doesn't want the public to hear, I don't see the point in keeping the goods to yourself.

You (in the general sense) really want to not let anyone else hear the goods just so you can have cats on your tip? So that you can feel special about having what others crave to get their hands on? It's retarded.

Even one of the cats on this site who had access to Stevie's unreleased material from the 70s had let those of us who may never get our hands on that music hear snippets. That was only because he did have the burden of swearing that he would not post ANY of that music online. At least his was one where any reason for not sharing would've been understandable.

He could've been on jerk mode and bragged about his access to music most of us would love to hear without ever letting us hear anything. Still, he did toss us a bone or two when he didn't even have to. Yet, you have these cats who don't even have that burden to keep the music a secret who wanna act like you're supposed to grovel and beg and MAYBE if they're in a good mood, they will let you listen. Douchebag fans are the worst.

the Dilla Dumbassery here has leveled off a lot but it burned out as quick as it developed
that Pac shit went on for over a decade after he was dead

He's not as omnipresent as he was last decade.

It's amazing how he could be one the globe's highest paid, most publicized and widely beloved rap stars ten years after his passing!

I think the fading of 2Pac stanning may have to do with an evolving generation. Kids born in 1996--the year he was murdered--don't remember him and have their own heroes instead.
