...where he debuts a new version of a song from his album ("Headlight") that he felt worked better in a live setting, and some asshole yells "Can we still do the handclaps?" and he's thrown off for a second, I think 1) because he didn't realize anyone in the audience was actually there to see him and knew his work and 2) he didn't realize how awesome the handclaps would've worked in a live performance. And he's like, "Um... wow, I didn't think about that." And kinda talks for a bit about it before going in to the song. Then after the track, chats a bit more about it.

I was that asshole.

On an Oscar Peterson trio live album. Not even a bootleg.

. . .trying to convince his friend (who was most likely dragged to the show) that they're actually "a really good band. Just wait til they start hitting their earlier, faster stuff."

Pretty funny he phrases it like that because this particular show was on the tour for Faith (which was 1981).

LA in the middle of July. Must've been hotter than heck in the place because the band just plays everything at a snail's pace tempo.

Except 'Fire in Cairo' which they rip through with almost angry intensity.

I love how Bob says that. No raising of the voice. No stumbling around his words. Slightest bit of annoyance. But he knew exactly what he wanted.
