"Who is the Nicolas Cage of Music?"

I guess some of you folks saw the piece where Ethan Hawke was raving about Nicolas Cage being a GOAT actor and described it like this:

If I could erase his bottom half bad movies, and only keep his top half movies, he would blow everyone else out of the water.

I thought that was an interesting way to judge a talent. I was wondering what other artists would be considered great if consistency wasn't a factor and you ignored the worst half of their material and focused on their best material?

I hate to get in the standard Jay-Z vs. Naz debate but if you use this Nicolas Cage Standard doesn't Nas blow Jay-Z out the water?

Anyone else?

Everybody's got opinions on the way you're living but see they can't fill your shoes... Life is made of half-illusions... forty percent confusion, whatever's left I'm using... to keep myself from losing, yeah.

it'd be more someone who went for mainstream success, got it initially then devolved into self-parody.

Ice Cube for example.

The way Cage can do a movie like 'Drive Angry' or 'Sorceror's Apprentice' but then still be a critics darling with something like 'Bad Lieutenant' is exactly how Snoop can do a record with Katy Perry or Miley Cyrus but then nail gangsta records with Dre or Pharrell.

his best stuff you love, he cool no matter what even when you know its corny and jive because he built that rep with you early you give him a pass because he is cool and the truth is you give him a pass over a scene whereas somebody else you would be critical about things.

sam ain't made an important film imo since the last time snoop made an important album, however both them brothers got a pass

As long as you've got the money, you can get either one of them involved in your project.

if he was a singer i'd say Rod Stewart.

if he was a rapper i'd say Nelly

because he has dominated for a really long time, has his own lane and the only other black actor over the past 30 years seeing his career is eddie murphy on a whole when we talk body of work.

Corny, lame, some high moments but will do anything to be relevant. No Creativity. Denzel has 95% quality for his entire career and does what he wants. Kellz on the other hand bounces to what's the trend nowadays.

Nick Cannon was writing for nick at night. that's been ages.

tyler perry has his own lane, no matter what you think or feel.

denzell washington dominated the 90's and still big in the 00's just r.kelly.

longevity and nobody else is doing what they are doing.

denzell been the leading brother for 2 straight decades

kellz been the gold standard of R&B for 2 decades

I'll say R Kelly is on Eddie Murphy status but no Denzel. Denzel has too much Integrity and a importance to be compared to Kellz. You can even have Will Smith be no Denzel.

he got the hype the Jewelry and alot of success and yet nothing sticks for the long haul. it feels empty after a while.

R.Kelly musically out lasted Eddie Murphy and I dig Eddie, however nobody has sweated or took Eddie on that next point in 20 years.

the Klumps creativity and maybe some Boomerang love, however nobody talks about much of his stuff on a whole since the 80's.

the last thing Murphy did that I liked was that film with Steve Martin and that was low key thing, however its one of the few times where he just acted.

Eddie been putting out whatever and anything and its only made him a cat who folks only talk about the 80's when his name is mentioned.

because the hype and promise and what appeared was so high.

TTD Burried his foot deep in his backside and while he still had some good material he was never the same, however Rourke came back in that Wrestler movie until he acted a fool again.however he had that "IT"

a Rapper that comes to mind in that set is Big Daddy Kane.
