"What you doin' on our turf, punk?.... Ironman Appreciation "

I feel like I haven't seen one of these in a while, and I'm sure someone has done the honors of starting a post like this at some point in the past year or two, but I feel like I just had to get another one going.

I wanna get a post on all things 'Ironman'. I bought this album back in '01 when I was first getting into Wu, and ever since then it has become probably my go to solo joint for all things Wu-Tang.

1. Ironman
2. OBFCL I
3. Liquid Swords
4. Brooklyn Zoo
5. Supreme Clientele

But really, there is just something about 'Ironman' that has always been a mystery to me. It legit sounds like RZA just threw a bunch of samples together and it just fucking works. Between the Kung-Fu samples ("Lets see you try the water technique!"), the 'Usual Suspects' samples("There's no coke!"), the Blaxploitation samples ("It's my old man!"), everything just comes together perfect. But going back to that mystery aspect. What is it about this album?

Kinda crazy but I just found out today that the 'Box in Hand' track listed on the album was actually for a different song with Streetlife and Method Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSLfVdUlqn4) anyone know the reason why they scrapped that OG version? Anyone pick up this 'Premium Version'? (http://www.okayplayer.com/news/ghostface-killah-ironman-premium-gold-edition-reissue-box-set.html) About a year ago I picked up the Vinyl edition of this with the OG tracklisting (Soul Controller instead of Marvel) and I still debate which track I like better. I love RZA's verse on 'Marvel' but man those samples at the end of Soul Controller (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJG5FJRFnYM)

So lets just get something going here. Post any links you have with other tracks from this era. Anyone got any good stories about 'Ironman'?

Shit is the REAL OB4CL2 IMO

Over time Ghost became the most notable member in the Wu, save Rza!

Always thought that woulda been Meth.

They all great in they own right and stand on they own, but Ghost became the representation of the NY mc and had all kinds of jokers biting his whole steez.

All started with that Ironman gem and the robe with the golden eagle.

WTF!?!?!?

Son was dgaf personified.

Sure wish that DOOM / Starks would manifest itself somehow.

We see through all that boo boo like it's ghost shit... (c) Quelle Chris

was it a sample clearance issue? not complaining as I think the album version is one of my favorite tracks on the LP. I've always wondered if that's ODB at the beginning, you can kind of hear someone faintly in the background going back and forth with Ghost; always sounded like 'Dirty to me.

I was helping a friend translate the album for a new Japan release this weekend. Reading the lyrics reminded me of how much I love that album. One of my favorite songs "Assassination Day" doesn't even have Ghost on it. The only song I skip now is All That I Got Is You. It's just too slow. However I bump the hell out of The Soul Controller so I don't know what that says.

The Usual Suspects samples at the beginning is great, then followed by, I assume, a Kung Fu flick sample *Help Please*.

I could listen to Deck and RZA's verses all day on this.

I love the vibe of that album. Winter Warz and Motherless Child bring me right back to 96.

Assassination Day, Box In Hand, Fish, and Camay are standouts to me as well.

And of course All I Got Is You is a classic track.

A great album that can be played straight through.

Still behind Liquid Sword and OB4CL to me though.
