lyrically? hell no. that was Nas finally loosening up on wax, IMO.

He always seemed a little serious until that song came out... that song let me know that Nas could clown someone in a cold sort of way.

Jay was bothered by being called "Gay-Z" and "Cock-A-Fella" from one of his rap heroes, that was worth the price of admission.

That song served its purpose and that was to address just one single individual in the whole fucking world. Jay. Outside of that ? Perhaps it left us with a new verb and whatnot. That's about it.

For real. Black Bond is classic Nas. Only Nas would make that song and only Nas would do it that well. The imagery, the slight story within a non-storytelling song, a beat that allows the focus to remain on the MC. That song is greatness. And while I don't hate Reach Out, Summer on Smash and Worlds An Addiction as much as everyone else, if those bonus track officially replaced that stretch, that album would be insane.

The World Is Your is also my favorite. Nas and Pete...favorite MC, favorite producer. And they turned out a classic timeless track.

Memory Lane is the epitome of MCing to me.

Straight up...if you replace those with the bonuses..you have a 100% undeniable classic rap album...that little lapse makes it questionable though.

Worlds An Addiction is actually dope and the third verse is insane. It actually is a victim to that sequence more than anything else because it doesn't have the legs to come off of two commercial tracks due to its arrangement.

If Loco-Motive or Daughters came after SOS, the sequencing wouldn't have the same effect on those tracks because they are classic hip-hop joints as opposed to the more experimental Worlds An Addiction.

switching the songs surrounding it wouldn't make anyone be like "oh it ain't so bad". Song is certifiable horeshit and Nas should be embarrassed he ever made it.

When the album dropped I was playing it in Atlantis for a week and SOS didn't sound like horseshit when surrounded by beautiful women (dont tell my wife i was looking) on the beach or by the pool. He song has its purpose and I understand if you're not familiar with that environment or can't relate it to that environment then you wouldn't have the same perspective. The online writers don't get outside of their moms basement so I can't imagine they have any frame of reference.

With that said, the song is by no means a favorite of mine. I wouldve cut it from the final track listing as I said above. But it's unrealistic to think a major label album by an artist on Nas' level wouldn't have a few commercial tracks.

At the end if the day, the beat is one of the better Swizz beats and Nas raps his ass off on the verses. Swizz is the one who ruins the track with the hook.

And I always look at albums to see if I can play them alll the way through and SOS did not keep me from doing that. I'm not always in the mood for it, but as I said, with my listening experience on vacation, SOS was ok with me bro.

It's not really about the females to me though. And his isnt a club joint to me either. Yes it is a party joint that can be played in the club but the reason I have m stance on the song is the fact that it is a song about chilling in the summer on vacation. I enjoy that and the song reminds me of that. I don't always like club songs because I'm not a big club person (think Chappelles slow motion sketch) but I am big on traveling to nice location which is the feeling I get from the song.

This is plea coppage 101. People dislike the song because for the most part it sucks.

The bonus tracks should have been on the official release- no idea why/how they weren't.

I'd cut that Ross joint and SOS.

That beat fucking GOES. And Fauntleroy destroys the hook. Really a perfect song. Not that it matters in the digital music age but I can't fathom how Nas decided to add that gem only as a bonus while putting the steaming pile of shit that was Summer on Smash on the actual album tracklist.
