"Poll question: Which Album Did You Prefer After The 3rd Bass Divorce?"
Wed Mar-20-13 09:59 AM by Nick Has a Problem..

I was never a big 3rd Bass fan to begin with because Serch irritated the
shit out of me with his clownish antics but he could rap so could Pete.
Serch had a few cuts on his solo. My fav being "Hits to the Head". Now
the Pete & Rich joint had production from The Beatnuts so I give them the
slight edge overall.

on his solo. He also looked 10 years older all of a sudden.
Serch still had it, he could have put out a dope album with the proper production & direction. Unfortunately it seemed like he had creative control and the album ended up being pretty mediocre.

I mean, I liked Serch's album when it dropped, but I played the shit out of "Dust to Dust" when it finally come out. I think, in retrospect, it's because it sounded a lot more like a 3rd Bass album, just without Serch.

I will say the beats on "Dust to Dust" were > than the beats on "Return", and it had DJ Richie Rich, who helped the caused. But Serch's lyrics>>>Pete's lyrics on their respective albums. And it seemed like a more fleshed out "concept." Plus, "Back to the Grill," "Here it Comes," "Daze in a Weak," "Scenes From the Mind," and the title track are all certified bangers that have stayed with me over the years. Most of the tracks on "Dust to Dust," aside from "Rat Bastard," "Outta My Way Baby" and "Rich Bring 'Em Back," don't hold up nearly as well.

I always preferred the remix (the last track on the album), where he rhymes over a sample from "Shit, Goddamn."

I already hated the song but the video really, I can't even describe the hate I have for
that song. The song is garbage but now I have to watch this idiot act an ass in the video
too? FOH I'd vote it for one of the worst songs/videos of all time.

And before ever going back to investigate either one now, I'd go listen to PMD's first solo which I'm not sure I heard either.

And that's speaking as someone who LOVED EPMD-era PMD. But "Shade Business" is pretty frickin awful. I copped a lot of pleas for it when it first dropped, but time has been even less kind to it. I guess some of the beats are still cool, but man, those lyrics and flows... Yeesh.

I agree 100%. I get depressed whenever I get near that album fam. His bars just fell off a cliff as soon as EPMD split.

that would be a priority over Pete Nice or Serch, who I was getting tired of by the second album.

Unlike rock where I've discovered bands from the 70s that I life who I didn't grow up hearing, for the most part I'm finding that on rap shit if I missed it (since I grew up in it) then it was probably for good reason.

I broke out Nineteen Naughty Nine Nature's Fury on spotify a little while back, that was a bad mistake.

Dirt All By Lonely still goes hard but by track four they were doing a No Limit posse cut, there was a Krazyie Bone joint, I swear I heard a Lil Jon production in there but that doesn't make sense time-line-wise.

But the most unforgivable is that I swear this is the only Naughty album I've heard where Vinnie might have equal verse time to Treach.

WTF cleared that?

"Bu$ine$$ I$ Bu$ine$$" was on a totally different level than "Shade Business", I guess he understood that he couldn't come with that same ol' sound he thought was going to win with but also Erick Sermon & Def Squad was out doing The Hit Squad too.

I still feel bad for Dj Scratch & Das EFX cause they basically was the only thing that made The Hit Squad worthy of being a crew, even though PMD did recruit a few more rappers later on but later on he dropped them from the roster as well.

It was just a regular 90s hip hop joint.

Video was cool too.

If I remember it was typical Serch: dancing and having fun.

Sidebar: Does anybody have that other Serch joint? "Many Young Lives Ago" or something like that. It was b-sides and joints for followup.

I had it but lost it. An inbox would be appreciated.
