"Prince is a God and we're mere MORTALS (SXSW show review SWIPES)"

The cool thing about being a Prince fan over the years is seeing the conversion of folks who only heard of the man's greatness, but were never huge fans...I wasn't able to see dude's latest gig at SXSW on Sat night-morning...But a much younger colleague of mine (the one and only Mikey Fresh) was covering it for the crew and I...

This is a hardcore hip-hop dude....

He worships at the alter of everyone from Jay to Kendrick to Kanye...He loves that street shit too....He's one of the dudes known for being FIRST with everything...He gets the new joints first...He's also Miss Info's right hand...The kid is not in the Prince realm...At all...

So the young boy calls me up a few moments ago and is like, "MURPH, NOW I UNDERSTAND...NOW I GET IT....PRINCE IS A SUPER HERO...YOU HAVE TO MAKE UP SOMEBODY LIKE DUDE....I HAD TO LEAVE BECAUSE I COULDN'T HANG AFTER THE 5TH ENCORE...HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE FROM A 54 YEAR OLD??? HE WAS DANCING AND COMMANDING HIS BAND WITH SOME OTHERWORLDLY SYNERGY...I HAD TO CATCH MY PLANE....DUDE IS THE GOAT..."

Now Mikey wants me to school him on some Prince 101 shit...He wants to hear the music he has missed...He wants to know how dude killed the '80s and made it his bitch...And I'm going to hook the young dude up because that's what I do....

Anyway...here's a few reviews from what many folks are calling the most memorable SXSW performance of all time...And that 22 piece band? No Vegas shit here...Dude presented an amalgamation of his rock band and the NPG...Let the white girl play the guitar solos...He didn't touch the AX, once...And dwarfed Justin's 40 minute set...People were leaving that gig just to catch Prince...

And Tribe opened up....FUCKING TRIBE...That shit sounds like music heaven, huh? It's a good time to be a Prince fan...

Prince Lights Up SXSW With Epic, Improvised Set

By Gary Graff, Austin | March 17, 2013 8:46 AM EDT

http://www.billboard.com/articles/events/sxsw/1552423/prince-lights-up-sxsw-with-epic-improvised-set

This was no recitation of greatest hits -- or even of Prince's own material – but rather an exercise in organic, improvisational music-making. "Austin, don't let me hurt you"

The ground shaking around South By Southwest on Saturday night (well, technically Sunday morning) was nothing to be alarmed about.

But it was a genuine Housequake, a stomping two hours and 35 minutes of rock, funk and occasionally jazz jamming by Prince and his super-sized, 22-member New Power Generation band at La Zona Rosa, a Samsung Galaxy-sponsored event that was arguably the hottest ticket of the conference -- with some hopeful fans even lining up outside the club as early as Friday morning.

Prince and company delivered on the hype, performing on a specially built stage (including a massive LED wall behind the band) and absolutely slamming through a tightly played epic of a show that delivered surprises with nearly every note. This was no recitation of greatest hits -- or even of Prince's own material – but rather an exercise in organic, improvisational music-making and ensemble dynamics that Prince guided like a conductor steering an orchestra through an intricate symphony, even eschewing the guitar to focus on the task of bandleader, occasionally adding keyboard accents to a handful of songs. Structures were altered and even abandoned, making room for solos by each of the NPG members and showy vamps and instrumental breakdowns.

As the man told the ebullient crowd at the club, in a made-for-SXSW testimonial, "I love being a musician. It feels like being a servant -- a servant to you."

Those in attendance -- including My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Mayer Hawthorne, Talib Kwele and actor Bo Keene -- certainly felt well-served, even if Prince delivered just a smattering of his own songs. "1999" blasted forth early in the show, amidst some selections from 2004's "Musicology," including the title track. "Purple Rain" was also played during the main set, with Prince substituting a stirring set of vocal vamping in lieu of the song's guitar solo. He may have warned, "Austin, don't let me hurt you. You know how many hits I got?," but Prince left the vast majority of those on the bench and, when touching on his originals, dug deep for material such as "Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)."

Instead the indefatigable performer, who sported several different outfits during the show, populated the "after-party" encores with covers, some focused on his contributions to other artists while also ripping through some surprising covers. Prince nodded to his forebears and heroes with versions of Curtis Mayfield's "We're a Winner," Aretha Franklin's "I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You," James Brown's "I Don't Want Nobody to Give Me Nothing (Open Up the Door, I'll Get It Myself) ( Part 1)" and Rose Royce's "Which Way Is Up," and he paid homage to some peers with a set of Jackson family favorites -- Michael's "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough," Janet's "What Have You Done For Me Lately" and the Jackson 5's "Dancing Machine," during which he brought several fans onstage to join the "purple party." Prince the composer, meanwhile, visited The Time's "Cool," "The Bird" and "Jungle Love," Sheila E's "The Glamorous Life" and Sheena Easton's "U Got the Look."

It was exhausting, if not exhaustive, but it was clear that even at 3 a.m. the La Zona Rosa crowd would have been happy to stick around for a few more….dozen…encores. "What a night, huh?" Prince asked at one point. No kidding…

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Prince closes out SXSW with a six-encore marathon

Posted by: Chris Riemenschneider

http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/blogs/198667351.html

As if five straight 16-hour days of nonstop live music wasn’t enough for one festival, Prince took the South by Southwest Music Conference into overtime with his closing-night party Saturday.

The Minnesota rock boss performed six encores at his invite-only promotional performance for Samsung, whose mobile devices had their batteries tested like never before as the little energizer kept going and going till 3 a.m. Sunday at La Zona Rosa nightclub.

“We’re gonna show you how we do it in Minneapolis,” he warned at the start of the first encore.

Of course, the way Prince has often done shows in his hometown is by first making the audience wait for their musical pudding. He didn’t go on until nearly 12:30 a.m., when doors opened at 9 p.m. and many attendees started lining up hours before that. At least they were treated to a rare performance by influential hip-hop quartet A Tribe Called Quest as an opening act. Samsung gave out wristbands for this wowza double-header concert to users of their $700 Galaxy mobile phones, who had to rack up points at 11 different vendor locations in Austin. The company certainly deserves points for staging what may be the most elaborate SXSW party after Kanye West’s big bash in a vacant power plant in 2011.

Even though La Zona Rosa is a full-time, hi-fi music venue, Prince still made Samsung build him a new stage from scratch along the long wall of the club to accommodate the 18-piece New Poer Generation band lineup he brought with him. Throw in a stretched-out video screen behind said stage -- plus confetti guns and a bevy of glitzy lighting -- and the giant South Korean electronics maker had clearly spent a small fortune even before it handed over Prince’s paycheck (which was undoubtedly a not-so-small fortune; at least $1 million seems like a good guess).

Even with all that visual eye candy – including the several different blouses Prince changed in and out of – the show’s handlers still threatened to eject attendees for taking pictures with their mobile devices during his set. So yes: Prince demanded that nobody use the product he was there to promote.

The concert followed a similar pattern as last fall’s Welcome 2 Chicago shows and his second night of January’s three-night stand at the Dakota in Minneapolis. He only sang a few of the hits, starting with “1999” for the second song and “Purple Rain” just before that first encore break, 50 minutes past go (for a few minutes, it looked like Samsung wasn’t getting its money’s worth).

For the rest of the show, Prince often acted more like a George Clinton-like cheerleader than the spine-tingling singer that he is, always urging various members of his band to take solos, especially drummer John Blackwell and saxophonist Marcus Anderson. Thanks to his own disinterest in playing a guitar – was he afraid the Austin humidity might warp the neck? – Donna Grantis of his new 3rd Eye Girl band got some extra spotlight time, too. Ironically, he addressed his surroundings mid-show from a six-string context: “Austin, Texas: Just like I pictured it," he said. "You’ve got a lotta guitar players up here, don’t you?”

Prince’s current NPG lineup is killer, no question, but the crowd obviously didn’t come to find that out. Some of the workout jams included “Musicology,” Curtis Mayfield’s “We’re a Winner,” James Brown’s “I Don’t Want Nobody to Give Me Nothing” and parts of the Jackson family catalog – Michael’s “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough,” Janet’s “What Have You Done for Me Lately?” He rewarded diehard fans in the crowd deeper into the encores with some of “Something in the Water Does Not Compute” as well as snippets of “Housequake” and the Time's “Cool.” By then, those nutty fans included Questlove, who apparently ran over after his competing gig with Justin Timberlake at the MySpace party several blocks away.

Prince just kept coming back out. The 2˝-hour set was the antithesis to the wham-bam performances that the thousands of other bands in town had to play in quick order during SXSW – bands that, by the way, were losing untold amounts of attention from media and music professionals while conference attendees waited on Prince. At least the presumptuous Purple One offered something in the way of a benediction to fittingly sum up Austin’s holy week: “I love being a musician,” he said. “It feels like a service.”

Maybe SXSW organizers should try to book him as the keynote speaker next year. You can bet that won’t go over the allotted time.

A Tribe Called Quest’s 50-minute warm-up set was more like a typical SXSW set, in that the New Yorkers tore through their songs rapidly, starting with “Steve Biko (Stir It Up)” and including “Can I Kick It?,” “Oh My God,” “Bonita Applebum” and the finale “Award Tour.” Though largely inactive of late, the guys still displayed an ageless chemistry. After the latter tune, the group’s forever-charismatic lead MC, Q-Tip, stuck around to mop up – literally.

“Do you know what I’m doing?” he asked the crowd as he toweled off the stage. “I’m cleaning up for Prince. I would never do this for anybody else.”

Q-Tip clearly wasn't the only one to make that statement on Saturday.

SXSW: Prince
Saturday 12:20 a.m. @ Samsung Galaxy event at La Zona Rosa

By Evan Minsker
on March 17, 2013 at 09:00 a.m.

In R. Kelly's autobiography Soulacoaster, he described the surreal feeling of seeing Michael Jackson in person for the first time. He'd grown up with Michael as a character in the "Jackson 5ive" cartoon, and seeing him in the flesh was akin to hanging out with Mickey Mouse. While I was waiting in La Zona Rosa for the Prince show to start, I kept thinking about the depictions of Prince I've been familiar with for the majority of my life. I thought of the Prince riding a unicorn in the nude on the back cover of his first album. I thought of the Kid from Purple Rain challenging Apollonia to purify herself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.

But then he walked on stage with his jewel-encrusted pimp cane, magenta shirt, perfect hair, and knowing smirk. There he was, standing mere feet away, posing, getting ready to embark on a lengthy funk odyssey. To borrow a phrase from Kells, Prince was real.

With that Samsung money behind him, the Purple One pulled out all the stops and stuffed an elaborate arena show into La Zona Rosa, a medium-sized venue where the artist isn't that far removed from the audience and the ceilings aren't all that high. After a ridiculously fun opening set from A Tribe Called Quest, Prince's giant band (including his ripping new backing trio 3rd Eye Girl) came on. He packed an elaborate light show, disco balls, back-up dancers, choreography, and an entire horn section wearing strange animal hats onto that (relatively) tiny stage.

He sealed the deal when 20 horns blasted out the intro to "1999". Prince danced, let his musicians take their solos and have their moment in the spotlight, duetted with a member of his band, and right at the song's climax, boom-- confetti and streamers dropped from the ceiling. And of course, during "Purple Rain", the entire crowd sang along. (Yes, I welled up a little).

Ultimately, he played six encores, which included awesome covers of such songs as Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done for Me Lately", Curtis Mayfield's "We're a Winner", and best of all, the Time's "Jungle Love". He did the James Brown "hit me" act, he spun, he brought people on stage to dance-- it was incredible.

He kept saying "goodbye Austin," but he'd always come back: "Don't make me hurt you-- you know how many hits I got!" At 2:40 a.m., somebody at La Zona Rosa informed Prince and company that they only had 20 minutes left. He sounded pissed about this: "20 minutes?!" It was an unbelievable way to cap SXSW.

SXSW: Prince shuts it down in style at La Zona Rosa
POSTED: Sunday, March 17, 2013, 5:58 AM
Dan DeLuca, Inquirer Music Critic

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/inthemix/SXSW-Prince-shuts-it-down-at-La-Zona-Rosa.html

As "Purple Rain" was building to a crescendo about an hour into his dazzling, hard-working performance that closed out the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas on Saturday night, Prince paused to say a few words.

"I love being a musician," the 54 year old Minneapolis wonder said. "It feels like being a servant. A servant to you." (Though in his mind, he probably spelled it "A servant 2 U.")

And though he was pretending to be wrapping up his set at the time before the crowd of 1300 fans pinching themselves for scoring a ticket to maybe the most in-demand show in the festival's 27 year history, it turned out Prince was just starting his evening of service.

Because from there, the bandleader who fronted a 22 person, frightingly funky and astoundingly versatile ensemble that goes by the longtime Prince band name New Power Generation, went on to play six encores, with a combined length stetching to almost twice as long as the set that preceded it.

"You've heard of five hour energy?," the impish musical polymath asked. "Eleven hour energy is my middle name." He also taunted the audience during one of several phony goodbyes: "Goodnight, Austin. Don't make me hurt you: Do you know how many hits I have?"

A lot, and while changing costumes often, beginning with a sleek blue suit and finishing in a leather vest and a stuffed animal hat - to match those worn by his 9 member horn section - he did a good number of them, including "1999," and "U Got The Look." But with the assistance of four female singers (who also danced as most everybody does on stage and off, at a Prince show), he also did plenty of other people's songs, and songs he wrote for other people.

In particular, he dug deep into the 1980s catalog of The Time, getting bodies moving with "Cool," "Jungle Love" and "The Bird." With powerhouse drummer John Blackwell as anchor, the band moved through Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" and "Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done For Me Lately?"

He started one particularly epic encore segment with "Curtis Mayfield's "We're A Winner," which he prefaced by saying, "This is the kind of music that used to lift us up, that made us feel like we wanted to be something." (He asked the crowd how many of them were familiar with Mayfield, and when not enough sounded out in the affirmative, he tut-tutted and said "I seee we have some young folk here."

After the Mayfield tune, the master class in "Musicology" continued with one of NPG's female vocalist's stepping forward for Aretha Franklin's "(I Ain't Ever Loved A Man) The Way That I Love You," and the erotic ballad "Satisfied," on which he sang the line "Torn off your cell phone, baby!" even though the show was sponsored by mobile device maker Samsung, whom Prince thanked for calling him because "I guess they decided Austin needed some funk."

That tune was followed by a brilliant on-the-one workout of James Brown's "I Don't Want No One To Give Me Nothing (Open Up The Door, I'll Get It Myself)" and Prince's own shuddering "Housequake."

In the course of the 2 hour 40 minute evening, Prince played piano, and (beautifully) sang piano ballads, most notably the unfamiliar to these ears "Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)." What he did not do, all night long, was play guitar, somewhat perversely, since he not only is one of the world's great lead players, but also he began the evening by correctly commenting on the Austin's notoriety for its axemen. You might have thought that he would be out to teach them a thing or two, but he apparently had other priorities on his mind. Such as proving that "there ain't no party like a purple party," which, as was clear when he finally stopped playing just south of 3 a.m., there most assuredly is not.

SXSW: The amazing, never-ending Prince show -- a moment-by-moment report
by Melissa Maerz

You know that old Texas saying, “Keep Austin weird“? Well, Prince helped that cause on Saturday night, when he took his massive band to Austin’s La Zona Rosa for the Samsung Galaxy showcase, where they wore animal caps, dabbed their faces with pink handkerchiefs, and capped off a long week of SXSW mania. Fans were so excited about the show that they arrived at the venue at 9:00 p.m. and waited for two full hours before anyone took the stage. (A Tribe Called Quest opened, and they were excellent.) Then they waited another half hour while Prince set up. At which point they were treated to two and a half hours of crazy fun. So what happened? Below is a moment-by-moment recap of what must’ve been a thrilling/exhausting night for His Purple Majesty. (The guy is 54 years old, and he still has way more energy than men half his age!) Here’s how it all went down.

Continue reading the moment by moment report here:
12:30 a.m.: A very tall, gorgeous woman, dressed in a pants-free costume that makes her look like a pink circus ringleader, walks out on stage wearing a gold Mardi Gras mask. “It’s Naomi Campbell!” shouts the woman behind me. Sadly, this is not true. “Please welcome Company Play!” announces the Lady Who’s Not Naomi Campbell. And that’s when the animals arrive.

12:31 a.m.: From the very back of the room, a string of musicians marches toward the stage like a New Orleans second line, dancing while they play. The guys in the brass section are all wearing fuzzy plush hats that look like animal heads. I spot a fox, a raccoon, a frog, and a bear before I realize that there are too many to write down.

The fierce-looking lady back-up singers, at least two of whom have shaved heads, are shaking tambourines. There are 22 people in Prince’s band. 22!

12:32 a.m.: When they’ve made it to the stage, the horns blast, and there before us is Prince. He looks amazing. He is wearing a black, ’70s-style suit with a bright pink shirt and a matching handkerchief, and a massively chunky silver necklace that may or may not have been designed for ladies. He’s also holding a cane that appears to be made out of ten billion diamonds. It is blinding! The band is playing a song about bright lights and big cities, and Prince is singing “Something tells me this is gonna be fun!”

12:40 a.m.: One of Prince’s back-up singers, whose bouffant hairdo and black vintage dress make her look a little like Adele, launches into a fabulous, gospel-inspired take on “1999″ while Prince mock-dramatically dabs his face with his handkerchief. He makes the best faces. This one says: Please! Do not interrupt the face-dabbing, or I will cut you!

12:43 a.m.: Prince sits down at the keyboard and plays some amazingly complicated jazz-inspired runs like it’s no big thing. Then he launches into a series of excellent Prince yowls. There’s the uh-uh. There’s the owwww-ah! And there’s the amazingly high-pitched heee-HEEEE! A few brave souls try to sing along to the howling and fail miserably. Most of us just let Prince do his thing, because he is Prince, and he is awesome.

12:44 a.m.: Streamers explode down from the ceiling! The crowd cheers!

12:45 a.m.: Confetti explodes down from the ceiling! The crowd cheers louder!

12:46 a.m.: Prince yells, “Turn the lights off!” and the room gets pitch black. Prince’s drummer plays a crazy drum solo in the dark. The only thing we can see are the glow-in-the-dark lights he has strung down the front of his shirt and around the cuffs of his sleeves. Those cuff lights are moving very quickly.

12:47 a.m.: When he’s done, the band starts to play the ballad “Shhh!” while the screen behind them lights up with images of falling rose petals. One member of Prince’s band starts singing and playing a clarinet-like instrument that digitally alters his voice. Then another member of the band does the same thing. Then both of them do it together. Battle of the Autotune-inets! Or whatever they’re called!

12:59 a.m.: Prince’s guitarist Donna Grantis, who has long hair that’s shaved on one side and looks like one tough chick, plays a mind-bending metalhead solo. “Open up your third eye and listen!” suggests Prince. Done! It sounds so good, I’d also like to open my third ear.

1:03 a.m.: The band transitions into playing “Musicology” and Prince name-checks a few classic favorites in the song: “‘Let’s Groove’ / ‘September’ / Earth, Wind and Fire / ‘Hot Pants’ by James / Sly’s gonna take u higher!” Then he smiles. “I know some old people in this room know what I’m talking about!” he says, laughing. “Don’t you ever touch my stereo!”

1:10 a.m.: Up next is “Extralovable,” also known as the song where Prince offers to take a shower with you. “Where’s my rollerskates?” Prince asks before starting the song. But as soon as the music kicks in, he’s spinning around on stage, faster and faster. Who needs skates when you’ve got feet like that?

1:18 a.m.: Instrumental interlude, played while Prince disappears backstage and a night sky is projected on the screen behind the band. Watching it feels like when you’re in a casino and you don’t know what time of day it is because you’ve been there so long. Maybe this is Prince’s reminder: it’s still nighttime, people!

1:20 a.m.: Prince emerges from backstage wearing a black and white patterned shirt. (Note: costume change no. 1.) “Austin, Texas!” he shouts. “Just like I pictured it. Y’all got a whole lotta guitar players up here, dontcha?” The first strains of “Purple Rain” begin, and people really lose their minds. One very tiny woman in the crowd starts jumping up and down very fast, hoisting herself up from the stage, as if she’s on an invisible pogo stick. “You can sing if you want to,” Prince offers generously. And, boy, does she.

1:22 a.m.: When Prince comes to the line about only wanting to be some kind of friend, he turns and purrs, “Can I find a friend in Texas?” The crowd screams. He continues to coo his way through the lyrics, kneeling down on stage, getting quiet, then building and building up to an avalanche of Ohh hoo hoo hoos.

The whole room has joined in, and many people are singing with their eyes closed. When the song is over, they erupt into applause. “What a night, huh?” says Prince, just before disappearing off stage. “I love being a musician! It feels like a servant. A servant for you.” Okay, so that’s a weird thing to say. But weird is good in Austin! Keep on serving us, Prince!

1:25 a.m.: Stage goes dark. Chanting starts: Prince! Prince! Prince!

1:26 a.m. (FIRST ENCORE): “The afterparty starts right now!” declares Prince, who has just returned to the stage wearing a hat that’s tipped to one side. (Note: costume change no. 2.) The band starts playing Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough.” “Y’all alright?” asks Prince, perhaps noticing the first signs of fatigue. “You got somewhere to go? You got a curfew?” Nooooo! yells the crowd.

1:28 a.m.: “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” segues into “Cool,” and Prince teaches us how to spell out the letters C-O-O-L using one hand raised above our heads. “Austin!” he calls out. “Is it hot in here? Do you know why? Because you’re cool!” Everyone is dancing. “Austin!” he calls again. “Is it hot in here? Do you know why? Because… it’s really hot in here.” He laughs. By the time the song is done, and Prince leaves the stage once more, the steam is rising off the crowd.

1:32 a.m.: Stage goes dark. A few people leave. Chanting starts: Prince! Prince! Prince!

1:36 a.m. (SECOND ENCORE): “Can we jam for a minute like we do in Minneapolis?” asks Prince, who has just returned to the stage, wearing a black vest. (Note: costume change no. 3.) “How many people have heard of Curtis Mayfield?” “Oh!” jokes Prince. “Some old people in the house!”

1:37 a.m.: The band starts into Mayfield’s “We’re a Winner,” which segues into Aretha Franklin’s “I Never Loved a Man The Way that I Love You” (sung by one of the fierce bald ladies), which segues into Prince’s own “Satisfied.” At one point, Prince pretends to faint. The woman who’s not Naomi Campbell drags him away from the mic and revives him.

1:43 a.m.: While performing “Housequake,” Prince delivers the night’s best non-sequitur: “Everybody clap your hands! / Don’t wait for your neighbor / Green eggs and ham!”

1:47 a.m.: After a rousing take on “The Bird,” which works the crowd into a frenzy of whoa-whoa-whoas, Prince salutes the audience. “Goodnight, Austin!” he says, walking off stage, again. He double-takes. “Don’t make me hurt you!” he threatens. “You know how many hits I got? My middle name is Eleven Hours Energy!”

1:52 a.m.: Stage goes dark. More people leave. People are getting too tired to chant. So they clap. Clap clap clap!

2:00 a.m. (THIRD ENCORE): Prince returns to the stage to take on “Jungle Love” by the Time, prompting the crowd to do the oh-wee-oh-wee-ohs, and then starts into “The Glamorous Life.” A woman in the front wrestles the microphone from him and hollers her way through the chorus. “I’m scared of you!” says Prince. They finish out the song together. The band does the grand-finale-horns thing that late-night shows’ house bands do to signal that the theme song’s done. (See also: the sound at 0:50 in this clip.)

2:10 a.m.: Prince leaves the stage. Again. People clap wildly. Again. “This is great, but it’s also exhausting,” sighs the woman standing behind me. “I think Prince has left the building,” says the man next to her. “No,” says his girlfriend. “You just want to believe that so you can go home!”

2:11 a.m. (FOURTH ENCORE): Prince returns. Brocade vest. (Costume change No. 4.) Runs through “Let’s Work.” And “U Got the Look.” Donna Grantis gets another solo. “Is that enough?” Prince challenges. Very sleepy cheers follow.

2:24 a.m.: Stage goes dark. Very slow clapping ensues. People still love Prince. But they are falling asleep.

2:25 a.m. (FIFTH ENCORE): Prince returns. Gold shoes. (Costume change No. 5.) He is twirling a drum stick like a baton. He plays “Something in the Water (Does Not Compute),” and maybe another song or two, and maybe there is a unicorn on stage playing the upright bass and… wait, sorry! We’re awake now! We’re awake! And Prince is declaring, yet again, “Thank you, goodnight!”

2:40 a.m.: Stage goes dark. The “Prince has left the building” guy? Well, he’s leaving the building. Along with a few dozen others who just couldn’t make it. The rest of us rally. We are cheering! One more time!

2:41 a.m. (SIXTH ENCORE): “They say we got 20 more minutes,” Prince shares. “You think we can make it the best 20 minutes of our lives?” Screams! Also: Prince is wearing a plush lion hat. (Costume change No. 6.) And he looks adorable. So there’s that to keep us energized! He roars through “Act of God,” Janet Jackson’s “What Have You Done For Me Lately,” and the Jackson 5′s “Dancing Machine.” He is dancing up a storm, doing the rollerskate spin, the comb-my-hair move, the criss-cross-your-gold-shoes move. He even pulls people out of the crowd up on stage — mostly women, but there’s one big guy up there, too, and he has a huge smile on his face. “It ain’t over!” gasps Prince as he retreats off stage. “IT AIN’T OVER!”

2:56 a.m.: It’s over.

2:57 a.m.: Prince’s band returns to give one final bow. And Prince himself gets a standing ovation. Granted, we were already standing — for the past six hours. But after a show that was this high energy — from a 54-year-old singer! — the guy deserves a six-hour standing ovation.

3:02 a.m.: A few true believers remain, changing, Prince! Prince Prince! “Thanks for coming out!” says a voice over the speakers. “We’ll see you soon!” The lights turn on. But the true believers keep chanting, One more song! One more song!

Hours later: They might still be there now, if no one forces them to go home.

Perhaps you are better suited to review that Taylor Swift album? lol

because its way to many and everything that happens about him ain't newworthy.

if R.Kelly threads were told to be kept to a minimum well the same should apply to Prince threads.

big deal about him in Austin as if he is Maurice White who was conducting big bands back in the day.

who cares? take that garbage to Prince's playground this ain't it and he didn't run no 80's you need to say to you because a certain amount of folks like Michael Jackson, RIck James, Lionel RIchie, Whitney Houston, and especially Michael because MJ was a one man industry all onto himself musically.

FYI I made a thread on Fatback versus War

and another one on Bon Jovi and also other music acts.

all you do is get your Purple Poom, Pooms out and go give me a P. give me a R. give me a I give me a N give a C give me a E

and you spin and dance in a circle.

or you cheerleading for a fake fraud like Justin Timberlake.

oh that thread about Prince's wack behavior now that is really musically huh?

there are 3-4 related Prince threads in the past few days and meanwhile this turkey is doing an oldies but goodies show no matter how you mask it.

there are too many Prince theads IMO period and I protest with a picket sign.

so i don't care about the haters. at least i ain't gotta bring a relic and act like a turkey still counts, while they are basically a motel 6 after hours act and been that way for 25 plus years.

Prince is on that Wayne Newton tip and been that way for years.

Oh...you mean the same review that got the highest positive marks on metacritic? That review in which I called Chocolate Factory Kells' most mature work to date? The same one in which I said he had no peers? The same one I gave a 4 star rating?

http://www.metacritic.com/music/chocolate-factory/r-kelly/critic-reviews

Yeah...I really shitted on Kells in that one...U got me, homie...

Man...I took exactly what I said from the review and just posted it....lol...Even down to the stars...U just r on that bullshit...

What you are struggling to communicate is my mentioning of his scandal which was done because THAT SHIT HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THE ALBUM WAS RELEASED...So it was a huge part of the story...I even attempted to humanize Kells by stating that rock and R&B acts like Marvin Gaye and Al Green have also struggled with their past demons but still managed to make GREAT music....U wanted me to suck Kells off...And I'm not going your route...

Just admit it...U got caught up in a lie...

I'm no longer dignifying this shit...

Fuck you and this insane bullshit..

that i almost forgot to brush my teeth, prince's live show is boring and corny.

if Prince ever got on stage behind R.Kelly his wig would roll over and sideways and he would be tossing his guitar at ARRUh for hurting his feelings.

Kellz is too Big for America he is over in Africa turning the Motherland out. Kellz stays playing in Chilli Bowls while Prince is trying to still be happening big difference, folks go See in the modern way, folks go see Prince like that Uncle in his rocking chair telling you old stories.

If folks were doing three to five Prince posts a week (like the old days...), then yeah...lol...It would be staggering, right?

But there's been a lot of recent Prince news out there from the Fallon appearance to the song leaks to the Carnegie Hall show, so it's not shocking that DIFFERENT folks have been posting up stuff this month...

But I'm not going to let some wack job who post 20 posts in a week call anyone out (including me) for posting a Prince story...Especially when I posts maybe 1 thread/swipe a month...

Just saying...

its too many and it needs to be curbed.

not everybody wants to hear about some Has Been jive turkey who ain't counted since we each got our first pagers.

i mean really talking about a turkey like Prince makes the joint feel like a Relic Old folks haven. we are modern up in here.

prince ain't that ineresting either.

everybody knows what he is going to do and how he is going to present his music.

ain't like he is ever going to tour and play with somebody who challenges him.

the day he has a Marcus Miller playing with him and he allows a different take on the music well then it will sound like he has evolved since the mid 80's.

that turkey is stuck in a time warp and the fellow Kool aid pitchers are trying to make folks in here Purple and Diabetic on that sugar water.

is he literally changed these boards without trying. Seriously. You can focus on his humor (which for my money he is thee funniest cat on these boards - not once do I not straight die laughing with some of the references he comes up with. Dino yo. Dino that's all I'm gonna say. lol!!!!) but people are being way more specific and introspective about their posts. Before that it was Gucci, Jeezy, the Lil Trap Money Boys.... I mean seriously.

But Maxx is educating these fools just like he said. Personal taste aside - he is. He touches finer points that no one does, he covers quite a bit of ground and provides some serious insider information on everyone he supports. I love it. Straight up.

If you ever take a look at Maxx's play he never attacks. These cats go at him and he ALWAYS shuts them down - mind you - without ever once cursing or calling anyone out their name.

He's never called anyone a bitch, a dick, a wack ass nigga, nothing. Turkey is as disrespectful as he will go and ya know what? That's integrity - especially on these boards.

Nope...not buying it anymore...He's disrespected too many people on this site...I've tried to do the "Maxx knows his shit" thing...But he's too bat shit crazy to even care about kind words or respect...

I think alot of what you were seeing had history and trust.. he's hardly the worst offender. Folks get mad at him for what... posting what he feels? Man alot of these dudes just need to grow a set. Half the cats who complain never post themselves - they just post ride.

Trust me on it. While the taste varies from mine - he does indeed drop jewels.

Hopefully you two can get around whatever it is you need to get around - two insightful dudes like yourselves should be building - just imagine what the lesson COULD be.

The fucked up part is alot of the cats that are beefing - all make excellent points on their own right. Some get way out of pocket with their words. Ultimately we have a lot of good information providers on these boards - if we could just... get... organized...

I would think it's more than appropriate to have him.

Not unlike having Phish, Ani Di Franco, Slightly Stupid, or a Dave Matthews aka highly successful independent or alternative marketing artists that never gave in, but instead chose to do their thing.

Since he was the first major superstar to encourage removing the middle man and selling albums via the net in the mid to late 90's, the first superstar to dare mention leaving millions of dollars for control, the first superstar to beef publicly over masters and take it there referencing their control to 'slavery'. What was so crazy about those moves is many veterans in the the music business would have told you in 88-89 that Prince actually had one of the best deals ever on the table.

It's more than appropriate it be him.
He's showing you the future.

In my opinion.

It says something when a 50 plus year old man has all the newbies beat and still has the current stars chasing what he did over 25-30 years ago. He's the GOAT so let the GOAT be the GOAT.

Here's one mo thang

for all the outcry bout Unsung and black artists and how black folk been treated since music began

here is Prince..this nukka on Rolling Stone, U2, status ...what I mean by that is that he is classic material now and like U2 and The Stones, he is still doing his thing in his older age. Like Keith Richards has said for 20 years, lets see what rock can do in its older age..see where it goes without retiring and giving it all up

It seemed like only rock legends got to do such things..I mean use their back catalogue as a reason to keep going on tour and such..yeah we have rnb and funk artists doing it but the top crop is typically Pfunk while the Cameos and Atlantic Starrs are relegated to grown n sexy cruise ships or packaged fair scenarios

Here is Prince doing it at the same level that the big white stars are doing it(and without the backing of the typical music machine as well) but nobody recognizes that part. Nobody is tryna see now new RS or U2 songs..they come to the shows to hear the old stuff .."do you wanna hear the old stuff?!"-Jacksons live..it seems like the U2's and Stones just create new albums as an excuse to go out on the road. Rarely are their new releases inspired. At least Prince seems ot be changing his script here and there. At the very least, even if he has had some lazy or fat cat releases, he earned it enough to be the fat cat just like the white dudes in rock. It seems like even we give ourselves a different higher set of standards to live up to that is basically unfair.

that shows you just how daring he is. People call him a dick and a prick... but they never said that about Clive Davis, Gershwin, and a whole host of others who fought to protect their 'intellectual property'...

or those like Jerry Goldstein or Berry Gordy who were just snakes. Instead it's a love affair with those clowns.

What dude is trying to say is Prince is finding other means to get his music out there instead of dealing with labels...

That Clive Davis shit was dude at his most desperate moment...And it produced one bullshit album...

But Target, Verizon, ect? That's just side stepping the usual bullshit contract....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

of the original, meaning the only thing it had in common with the original was the title track (which was re-recorded and not nearly as raw as the original) and the name... haha

yeah that was him jus doing a high profile one off - seemed like he wanted those Santana numbers. He's not perfect lol

Actually I take that back - it wasn't wack actually. Funny thing is I think alot of Prince's 90's work has aged miraculously well save for anything involving them corny dudes Kirky J and the other clowns.

However from a musical perspective there are many jewels and the NPG performances - before and after those dudes arrived and were long gone is some of Prince's finest moments. Since it was right at the cusp of 2000 I'll throw it in that pot. It has moments.

Same for alot of the recorded work in the post 2000's.

Too funny cause I'm trying to hold him down - but.... hahaha... and those were the ones I really liked. There were a few more. I remember being disappointed about Ani Di Franco not being utilized in a more organic fashion (her true strength) and that New Years DVD? smh... I don't even want to start about that. I hate that live period cause he was very much into backing tracks for some reason during that run. It was always puzzling to hear a compressed performance from Prince lol!

yeah Emancipation was some shit on the low.

I mean who else had Agent 99 from the Boom Poetix on a major release?!?!

It why I rolls with Mr Nelson.. He wakes up everyday and does what he wants...If you ever get a chance to go to Paisley Park, do so.. As Oprah stated, "i thought my place was nice" ...

He put it all on the line and in the face of ridicule,, snickers, haters , etc, came out on top. While the ones hating are footnotes or dead!

what he's accomplished. There are so many firsts with this dude his contribution to music should never be questioned or understated.

Part of being an artist I would think is putting yourself out there -the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful and he's done it all.

Not true.. as he put spike lee in his place to set the record straight. he invited spike to pp.. he stated that folks may view graffiti bridge as a failure however, he gave many black folks work which in his eyes made it a success. he funded the first african american charter school, marva collins from the early 80's to present, harlem dance theater etc i dont think he ever forsake hos race as you suggest.. you are entitled to your opinions which are your, the facts you are not entitled too. Antoine Fuqua, training day director got his start as he directed the most beautiful girl in the world.. dude has done a lot.. lets not minimize becasue you are unaware

George Lucas is blacker than black.

I get where you are going, homie...But no need to shit on the newbies to prop Prince up...

I like that Ocean album...thought it was one of the best of the year...But I still blasted him for singing like a cat in heat on national TV...lol...Those are two different matters though...

Basically, we don't have to have a reason to post about an artist like Prince...As long as folks are not going crazy with the posting no one should be complaining about these threads...

That's my 2 cents...

and I can't dig an album if you can't play it live.. just my two cents.. I'm not into Milli Vanilli more Pat Methany.

but it says volumes about expectations.. take Frank O out of the equation and fill in many names... not just about him although he may be the poster child

you win a Grammy but can't sing or play in key? That's a sad day for us cause black music should be the pennacle, not the lowest common denominator. So I can see why you think it's 'just' a diss.. but that's seeing the smaller picture if you ask me.

In other words don't mistake 'hate' for honest criticism.

Prince on the other hand is not a reoccuring dog and pony show...
he has constantly changed his style, his sound, his look, his show.

Even after all these years I'm shocked - hell I was shocked when musicology blew up... when Planet Earth went number one... when Raibow Children came out... and to think here we are in his 5th Decade in the public eye and he's as daring as ever...

that deserves massive respect to hell with OKper posts.

The man's debut album was in 1978 - and he's the hottest ticket at SXSW? Respect.

I want P to release an entire album in the manner of the leaks...Then it will be a full blown "fuck you young niggas" moment beyond what the man does on the live stage which is pretty much peerless in this era (as well as his prime)...

In other words...I got no beef with props for Frank Ocean because I think dude is a very talented writer who needs to work on his stage show...BIG TIME...He just needs to take some voice lessons...Like for real...

But P is in his own lane...Dude is on that walking, breathing legend steez...No need to shit on the youngins...The man's GREAT work speaks for itself...

Don't turn into Maxx...lol

I mean if that's your opinion then so be it but this is mine.

There was a time when you couldnt' touch the stage until you'd been tried and proven... P represents that period and I love it. Sorry but if you are wack then you are wack and I'm not holding your hand and making excuses for you cause it's just gonna mean that the value of black music will go down.

We just differ on this... why my critical assesment has to be reduced to 'don't shit on the youngins' is well boxing in a logical assesment of what's presented no? Note you didn't counter you just smoothed it over - if that's your take I respect it but you gotta respect mine as well.

I'm not into studio albums if you cannot get down live. If that's the case I'd be holding the Monkees in the same regard as the Beatles. And Channel Orange was as overated as they come. This coat of protection just cause dude came out the closet needs to stop - that has zero to do with his performances and music. zero. so the handholding is over.

However this isn't about dude - P is the truth. He's showing everyone how to trailblaze on and off the court and has been doing so since Dirty Mind if you ask me. A daring, new wave/rock/funk album. To me that's when the real P showed his face and it's been on ever since.

that was 1980.

and with songs like Forrest Gump - I'm not buyin the great songwriter bullshit either. "you kept running past the endzone"
really?

haha.. yeah ok.

The problem with the Lesson is a lot of folks go into extremes within debate...

Saying Frank Ocean is a good songwriter turns into greatness...lol....

And believe me...I wrote an entire piece on my beefs with some of today's R&B acts (my issue with their lack of live singing chops---including Ocean)...

So I'm no Frank Ocean booster...

But I don't entertain the folks trying to make Ocean or any of those other new breed acts to be on Prince's level...lol

P stands on his own...His music and skill-set are the high bar...That's all the proof I need...

Shitting on younger acts trying to figure it out while using a once in a life time talent like Prince as the bar is just as bad as people shitting on 2nd year shooting guards in the NBA because they don't measure up to Jordan...

It's basically, silly...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

I can have an opinion without it being an emotional one and you see just because you chose to write an article about it - and be critical of his work - okay that's your take on it.

That works for you.

For me - I call it like I see it. I saw a wack ass performance on three different shows. I'm just calling it like it is and that's acceptable. Shitting on him would be getting personal - I'm just referencing his televised public performances. No different than if Taylow Swift fell down a flight of stairs during a performance, hit a few wrong notes or didn't know her song. You would hear about it. Spare me the safety net cause he came out of the closet cause one has nothing to do with the other. One reason why you won't see the TSwift hate is cause at the end of the day regardless of her style - she's a professional. Bottom line.

You can find the positives in his work - that's great. I don't, I see amatauer and I'm not being soft about that view.

Especially 7 years after witnessing the great Norah Jones.

Save me the sensationalism - he's a wack ass song writer and I'm not into potential.

Not comparing to P, nor would I ever - I'm comparing the Lesson's love for all things trendy and sensational. It's sad cause these very boards used to be eyed for all things innovative.

Now it's the other way around.

Man...the Lesson has been that way for years...But I don't see anyone bigging up Ocean at the expense of P...And if they are, they need to get a better dealer...

The folks that shit on P (Maxx and others) or the heads that are very hard on him (KAP and others...) have little use for Ocean as well...lol....

So it all becomes one big meaningless tug of war...

I get your position on dude and that's cool

again... I respect your opinion.

We do NOT share the same opinion. He's wack, that album corny, and the fanfare was orchestrated modern day social media heart tug - he came out - bullshit. End of story.

I'm not riding for someone on personal lifestyle choice - all i care about is the music. Period. So if you cannot perform the very song you just got a grammy for... well let me off at the next stop.

i saw enough - heard enough - it's wack. My opinion - no need to try to talk me into liking him - I'll listen to the Cheetah Girls before that studio gimmickery.

as far as the lesson is concerned, which is really the topic, yeah it's been that way for about the last 5 years but regardless of when it turned over at one point - it was on point.

My point was here you have a musical monarch, a cardinal position in the field of music and we allow Trolls to just openly disregard all he's doing? Please.. half of what Prince is doing has been monumental and historical.

from selling out O2 for 21 nights to breaking records at the Staples Center to how he distributed his albums - all groundbreaking.

For the lesson to even not acknowledge that or great performances like D's Brothers In Arms performance but will defend that Apollo Comedy routine at the Grammy's is just,I dunno man just unreal.

I think most folks (including myself) just want D to bring an album out already...So folks are kind of leery of bigging up his recent live shit (which have been damn good btw)...

As for Ocean, nearly everyone roasted that nigga for his Grammy performance, so there u go...lol

P? I'm one of his biggest critics and biggest supporters...So I get where u r going...

I'm just a bit more measured about these things...As is, I just think it's fucking cool that Prince is still kicking it at a high level and earning respect from the outside press and fans...

That's enough for me...

"I think most folks (including myself) just want D to bring an album out already...So folks are kind of leery of bigging up his recent live shit (which have been damn good btw)..."

combined with a myriad of other reasons sure - but again the music is the music.. If you got ears that's all you need. We are not A&R's so all the logistics of before and after most folks need to leave that to the professionals.

"As for Ocean, nearly everyone roasted that nigga for his Grammy performance, so there u go...lol"

For me it's his entire career - fake, phony, and talentless. I maintain Tyler can outplay him on keys. smh. People are just not being real with themselves.. haha.. hey

"P? I'm one of his biggest critics and biggest supporters...So I get where u r going..."

See I love P but just like anyone else I can be real when he misses the mark (The Love Symbol album anyone? lol) but that said... I applaud him for being a real artist and not waiting for everything to be naarrowed down to perfect. He's willing to put himself on the chopping block and I mean he's in better shape than most of his contemporaries and he's gotten more and more into the music during his post 2000 run. I gotta love it. It's like when Jimi gave up playing w his teeth and under his legs - gimmicks. Don't need him, the man's chops are his meal ticket and he's gotten sharper as a guitarist and a musician. Can't even say that for Jimmy Paige.

"I'm just a bit more measured about these things..."

In your opinion - other folks opinions should just be that, aint no one holding a measuring stick. If you can accept the fanfare be willing to accept the criticisms. Neither should be judged as we are all on equal footing with our opinions.

I agree however when it's just emotional rants based in everything other than music - it can be a problem. Especially on these boards where people will opt to say "F U" than actually have a mature conversation about their differences.

"As is, I just think it's fucking cool that Prince is still kicking it at a high level and earning respect from the outside press and fans... That's enough for me..."

Agreed - for me it goes way further. I applaud someone who was a major star in the 80's and has somehow still managed to maintain that profile not based on shock value - but just consistancy. Any man would have caved aftter Purple Rain - 25 million sold that calendar year - a huge monster to follow. Most would have long since rested on their history - this man challenged it. Even tried to mute it.

He's made more history in the last 13 years than in his first... there isn't an entertainer around or in history who could probably make that claim besides Miles Davis or Bowie. Even when we look at those two as examples we still have to give it to Prince. He's had the most consistent output of music since his debut and he stays touring. he stays ahead of the game in terms of technology and he rightfully saw the end to what many mainstream buyers are now noticing - the noose of major labels coming undone.

"You say you want a leader, but you can't make up your mind" seems extremely true here.

dont see much energy
sounds dated, zero emotion
zero stage presence the brothers in arms shit, it was cool to see him get out there
just seemed empty like all the talk about the album
just lacks the talent for the vision quest and others had for him
and 20 years later, obviously he dont got it
D has shown no growth as an artist, yet he gets championed for being a medicare bum with no work ethic
the 6'7 dude in the gym that's can't dunk
cats were on her applauding the dudes guitar playing in the first tour, like seriously

what D'angelo can do is much of an angle no?

Brothers and Arms was great - but you see D'angelo used to do that all the time in NY. He's a proven. Before Brown Sugar - that's all he did. The only ppl who questioned him where ppl on these boards. Mind you - he's no prince (proficient at every instrument) but he doesn't need to be. When he sits down and plays and sings.. it's all his own.

I think D's musicianship has been sorely underplayed in a quest to identify with his idols. That said - that's why Brothers in Arms was both a great show (in my opinion), necessary, and the stronger version of D.

I never bought the funkateer D (lacks the presence and command of his band), I never bought the sexy Prince clone D (he cannot dance a lick - Marvin Gaye anyone?), or the all around multi-instrumentalist genius D.

What I did buy and still love is what he is, a fantastic musician (piano man) with an exceptional voice that is clearly it's own thing.
A really good songwriter who is very scientific about his process (I have learned to really dig that about him - wasn't always that way).
A great musician who is back and staying aggressive about being on stage. It takes alot for a leading man to put his pride aside and return as a shadow of his former self - physically. He put the music first and I commend him for that. To me - just like when Prince found his footing during Dirty Mind, Miles found MORE footing with Betty Davis, and George found his footing with Funkadelic - I think D is finding his right now.

That's all I need - keep your shirt on and just sit down and show em how it's done.

They seem to be getting to that - perhaps it's the universe forcing it that way - lol but at least it's happening.

The music industry is a hell of a drug.

and while i dug his 80's stuff everything else isn't that memorable.

he is vastly Overrated and he was Never in Michael Jackson's, Lionel Richie's or Rick James's league.

Prince can play however he is so hit and miss that it ain't even funny.

that's not what's happening here

you see Mj and Lionel took extremely long breaks searching for the perfect album. They were less musicians and more pop music recording artists. Even though both had/still has exceptional musical abilities. They genuinely cared about record sales and awards and to some degree allowed that to affect their music and who they fucked with to keep that machine going.

Prince is a musician's musician and an artist's artist. He allowed himself to dictate that vision at all times. An artist's artist constantly plays, records, and performs whether it's for a project or not. He STAYS visible because he has matured two fan bases

- the public - who's catered to by the majors and are generally lazy about their musical tastes (enter POP/COUNTRY/R&B music)

- and his fan base.

Which counts cause he's technically an independent artist. They follow him and he has allowed a bridge directly to them (pun?). lol Alot of his work is for them and whoever is down for the ride.

Mj was and always will be the King of Pop - no doubt, but he was not the next in line to continue the progressive musical legacy of a Duke Ellington, Miles Davis or outer rim reaches of a Jimi Hendrix. However let's not stop there cause all music counts - so even the experimentation of The Beatles or the rock out value of Zep.

Enter Prince. That's his lane.

Mj's legacy was to turn the music industry OUT like no one ever has or will - case closed there. 40 million records sold in a period of 48 months is a motherfucker. Case closed. lol

You see there was Andy Warhol and then there was Pablo.

Both can exist without there having to be a competition - even if they had a personal one - that would just be two men not seeing the bigger picture.

We can have two musical geniuses who happen to exist be alive and releasing work at the same time be mentioned without one having to be put against the other.

In fact the only racial element I will apply is as people of color - that's exactly what we should do. Embrace our geniuses - not help destroy them.

So does Prince though. Still waiting for the Clive Davis/Prince narrative to come out 20 years from now. I mean, I heard Clive had a blue spandex fetish.

Prince is also a product of the same system he wants to scorn. He had some nigga wake up calls, and became blacker than black, even got some blacker than black friends when he was lost his soul, strung out, losing popularity, and he reached back out to his black fan base

If Prince was black he would have been Nile Rodgers.

Nah i don't think so... Prince single handedly never once left the black community despite what ppl try to say...

He always kept a record on the R&B Charts and yes he ventured into various styles of music but never once did he turn his back on the black community.

Even at his whitest moments (Wendy and Lisa) he was openly supporting the Marva Collins Foundation in the Chi - but that's being cliche'.

That's just simply not true.

U said Prince was for kids...

And I simply posted up a great artist (MJ) that was at times VERY KID friendly to show you how absurd you sound...

If I can clown Prince for recruiting them wack ass rappers in the early '90s, then I can point out the humor of Mike making music for a non-adult set...

Fall back and stop projecting....

you see though i dug prince when i was a kid though. like you dig a junior whooper. prince to a younger mind was like the plaboy advisor however you get older and this turkey still doing the same ole song and dance and trying to stay coy.

lets see someone in the dark to stranger in moscow shows growth.

whereas bambi to screwdriver sounds like the kid who never grew up.

yeah MJ was a big ole kid, however he had adult themed music.

prince stuck still trying to blur them lines and the turkey still thinks its 1982.

hey man prince from 80-84 and 87 era prince you gets no arguments about his impact, however once i got grown i put them kid's thangs prince was doing in the play pen.

prince ain't evolved at all man.

some george jefferson turkey in his mid 50's screaming i'm your screw and your my driver??? now its funny and also sad
