"Loose Ends Appreciation Post"

I grew up listening to Loose Ends because my pops was a fan. I always loved the production on their stuff plus the vocals were just my speed. Songs like "You Can't Stop The Rain" and "Hanging On A String" were parts of the soundtrack to my childhood. I'm going to see them live in two weeks for their reunion tour and to prep I'm listening to all of the albums. Man, their last album was the best damn one.

Why did they stop?

I know for that album they changed up the lineup but damn this album has the most heat. My favorite song from them "Love's Got Me" followed by "Don't be a fool"? This is a dope album. The production pushed forward as they entered the 90s also.

Who were their contemporaries at the time that they were rocking?

What groups/artists do you think are derivative of their sound?

Lets give some Loose Ends love in here. I also would like to hear critiques folks might have of them.

I'd almost think Soul II Soul contemporaries simply b/c of the Black/British tags but Soul II Soul was a few years after. This post should be fun

They're pretty inconsistent when it comes to album tracks.

I kinda agree that their album cuts are inconsistent but they have jams. The first few songson Look How Long are at Hanging on a string level.

but 'Gonna Make You Mine' is a jam.

https://soundcloud.com/soulsekure/loose-ends-gonna-make-you-mine

and 'Slow Down' is cool. 'Watching You' is too.

as is 'Stay A Little While'.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygtBMwm9lXE

and i like 'Don't Be a Fool'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYGqP8a4Z8E

...but none of those are as great as 'Hangin On a String', IMO.

fuck you.

Over the last 2yrs. I've had the privilege to seen Loose Ends twice live.
Over the same span of time, I've also gotten to see SOS Band twice live.

An odd, thing I noticed about Loose Ends was that they were on point the 1st time(indoors) but the 2nd time, they were reeeaaalllyy off and I actually ended up leaving early to beat the crowd as a result.

SOS Band however...EXTRA SOLID EACH TIME I SAW EM!

so my "off topic" topic is

Which of the two was/is your fav?

No real point here. Just wondering because since my childhood, I've always confused the two's music with one another.

Always wished I could see them both on the same show.

peace

I played them on my way to work this morning. Great vocals, great instrumentation, great production (esp the JJ and TL joints). Another group I'd love to see live

I'vealways been more of a Loose Ends fan but SOS probably had better writing I need to dig into their catalog to really assess the two.

I approve this post

I heard they stop over differences regarding creative direction, i love look how long but they weren't the same after the other two members left.

Did you see them with Jane Eugene?

carl mcintosh recently did a song with dj kemet on his album
