Im only a few tracks in but it seems to be decent "atmosphere" music and not much else. Ghost just isn't demolishing tracks anymore. I understand why some people might like it though. It's like an adult contemporary Wu album.

Allied State of the National Electric Beat Treaty Organization (NEBTO)

Production-wise, it's a little bit different than Ghost's other albums with the live instrumentation the whole way through, but it's so soulful and the arrangements are so dynamic. Think "Maxine" off Bulletproof Wallets. Lyrically, Ghost is on fire as per usual. I think this is the first time Ghost locked in with one producer for an entire album since Ironman and it paid off. Aside from The Roots and a short list of others, it's very rare that the hip hop w/ the live band aesthetic really works on record for me...but Younge's production and arrangements are so rich, it sounds like a cross between vintage Wu Tang and a blaxploitation soundtrack. This record and Nas' Life Is Good are great examples of late-career emcees evolving and aging gracefully. Copped.

This is pretty pedestrian performance from Ghost overall. It's not bad so much as lacking a spark. It's decent but I'm looking for something more than decent when Ghostface is involved.

"Rise of the Ghostface Killah" is a master class record though. Feels like Ol' Dirty's intro in 1993 was cut solely so it could come back as the hook on that record.

The music is fantastic for this, glad the download comes with the instrumentals as well. Will need to digest the lyrics a bit more.

Speaking of the download, I really hate it when digital distributed albums have songs mixed up and/or incorrectly tagged. In this case The Sure Shot was missing from the zip file, and they put in Murder Spree twice. Do people even bother to double check these basic things before uploading?? Ugh.

Anyway, hopefully the Apollo Brown version will pop up somewhere too.

The instrumental version of The Rise of The Ghostface Killah is actually just the standard version in the zip. Mistakes happen but this incompetence and lack of attention to detail is really frustrating, fuck.

but the soundscape is BRILLIANT....hearing him over cinematic stuff like this is a breath of fresh air

Granted, I'm always "beats/music" first but I didn't pick up on Ghost slacking in any dramatic way and I always love when Wu pals show up on each others albums so I have no complaints on that side yet.

Musically, I can't be talked down right now in that this is the best production on a Wu-related album since........man, I don't know. The only albums I'd consider would be Fishscale and OBFCL2.

I see some criticisms of ghost's performance here. I kinda thought the same at first. But then i realized that it was more a matter of him sticking to the linear story for the entire album--which we've never heard him do before.

In THAT light, I think it's awesome how he can switch his style like that, esp considering his earlier stuff where he blacks out and we scramble trying to decipher what he's saying. Dude is a master.

Adrian and the producers already had the concept & stories figured out, and Ghost needed to write rhymes according to the notes. It does seem like they took a filmmaking approach to it where Adrian is the director and Ghost is the screenwriter/actor.

The beats are cinematic and sinister, the guests all kill their appearences (even capadona! Ghost does a great job telling one continuous story over the album

Fuck y'all, this shit is ill. It's a natural progression or regression. If you noticed the increasing amount of vocal interference Ghost placed onto classics with recent albums,you can see atrend with the direction this album goes. Instead of sampling, he just played the song and flowed over it. The overall concept borrows a bit from comics and Kool G Rapp, but hey this is Ghostface. Memorable highlights that make this an almost instant classic: rules are for fools, Masta Killa is the clans hidden dragon ( he plays the role in a minor way that Ghost himself did for OBFCL), Adrian Younge is the new RZA, Ghost is just that avant grade nigga and NY should be so fucking proud. If this is all you have, it's still more than enough to go far in the playoffs. Ghost is back.

One of his best solo albums in a minute, probably since Fishscale. maybe better than Fishscale, I don't know yet.

I like how there's no appearances by Rae or Meth, just Masta Killa, Golden Arms, Deck, Cappa and Killa Sin. It's a nice change up. Beats are all solid all the way through and the concept thing works very well. Dope album overall.

Adrian Younge version -

The production on this is fucking beautiful.. All of the instruments, arrangements, and background vocals really come together to give this that cinematic energy that is what they were obviously going for.. I think he has really captured and expanded on that Ghost/Wu sound perfectly.

Apollo Brown version -

Loving this as well. This is the version I would like to bump in the ride. The original would be better on a nice home stereo system or good headphones. But this one right here is great for on the go. Much more uptempo, breakbeat driven. The production really brings the flows to life. I think Apollo Brown has effectively addressed all of the "same ol' drum pattern" criticisms his beats have been getting.

Flow-wise it's on point. All emcees sound good on this. I think we could have heard the Delucas referenced a little less, though.

I ordered both the vinyl and the deluxe 2CD+cassette months ago.
