For the first two albums Baatin had the shining moments but when Elzhi joined he took the spotlight.

They got better over time but their appeal was more their personalities than their lyrics.

In kind of response to the OP, Elzhi is my favorite BECAUSE he's the most talented, while at the same time having some personality to go with it.

Something about when he showed up on a track that immediately grabbed your attention, for better or worse depending on your taste in rap. For those of us who "get" Slum Village--and nothing against those who don't, since you're also entitled to your own musical opinion--Baatin was the exact representation of what made them so strangely likable. I think the best example of Baatin's glow as an MC was on the Fantastic Vol. 1 track "Things U Do". His breathing patterns, signature ad lib singing--"uh, OHHHH"--and absurd lyrical themes came together in a very rewarding and charming way. They all had their usual styles/topics: Dilla was about girls/being a boss, T3 liked talking about how wack your crew is, and Baatin was spiritual and especially all about that TANTRA SEX. But Baatin's subject matter made the most sense for their musical vibes, and that's why he gets my pick.

more than any of them, from his lyrics to his delivery to his personality
I'd imagine him and Ghost on a song together would be a bit like that Busta/ODB remix, with more talk about scrolls and wide open cheeks

of course Dilla comes second

but like cat said above, the way Baatin jumped on a track and spits the most offlandish lines you ever heard..dude kept you laughing and entertained.

The way he got shit started on "fantastic" with that line "roll a scroll on a ho"..hilarious!

I could if you grilled me, but otherwise my mind's not really trying. The pre-Elzhi albums relaly don't require me to know who's rapping, they're almost more complete to me as somewhat anonymous.
