which was hella unexpected. he styled all over that muthafucker effortlessly.

I love Yela as a rapper, but this beat didn't fit him. Kendrick and Bronsolinho seemed to be running on fumes here too. expected though after a whole year of par excellence music. Kendrick leaning on the vocal changes and dramatic flair a lil' too much here also

i got em:
Krit
Danny Brown
Joey BadA$$
Kendrick
A$AP (lol @ him knowing to go first)
Bronson
Yela

I'm assuming the 3rd verse is Joey Badass? First I've heard of him. Still don't get the appeal of Danny Brown, although he was much more enjoyable with a one-off verse than trying to get through an entire song of his.

My favorite verses were Kendrick, A$AP and KRIT.

Nah, I hear endless bitching about how he's "too much of a throwback"
and needs to "get his own sound"

Lot of that nonsense is here in 'The Lesson'

you know its okay for people not to like what you like

if you pull up the Joey posts from this year, MANY liked him and 1999, and others (like myself) knew he had talent, but didn't want to hear dope raps over beats that are literally from 1999.

no need to call in these mythical hipsters and the monolithic lesson taste

have you heard the other two joints he released in the past few days, one with Melo-X, and the other with his crew. shits are dope. the end

The is supposed to be the "going in"/street single and it does
neither well

Its very, very messy-

Didn't expect y'all to evaluate this properly

Mediocre 'warm' sample (although these strings seemed canned)
Drums that don't hit too hard with a minimal amount of bass
Dudes doing rippity rap for the same of rippity rap.
No hooks whatsoever.

It's pure oldtimer's bait, which is why it has it's own post on OKP.

As an ASAP Rocky track tho, it sucks.

I guess the producers were banking on us forgetting that
songs like 'Banned from TV' existed

Doesn't work that way in the digital age

THAT was a young lyricist posse cut

This is noisy, messy dumb shit

And even the guys who are good rappers on that song
come off wack

Just a shitty, rushed wack job

I'd only go B minus in the context of the fact that Brooklynwhat
types think Kid Cudi and Chief Keef are good rappers today, and
so you have to grade on a curve

Imagine if some shit like N.O.R.E. came out today?

BrooklynWhat and them's ears would explode

They wouldn't know what to do

Its right up your dumb rap music category, but is actually artful,
dope, way more relevant street shit, better beat, more cohesive
and the rappers actually feed off of each other

Again: its better in every way:

-more street

-more ignorant

-more punchliney

-more braddadocio

-more lyrical

-cleaner, harder beat

-more cohesive as a posse cut

In every way, 'Banned from TV' is superior and its a very good
parallel to this A$AP song in many ways

That is how commercialish/street rap used to be

N.O.R.E. is the album that really gave the world the Neptunes, after all

Buzz was a different animal back then, but NORE had an A$AP magnitude buzz
for that time, at least

Literally that song comes out today and its more relevant than
this 1-Train shit...sounds like noise, like a discombobulated
street cipher with a mix of rappity rappers and bums

Sorry.

But that song renders this 1-Train shit completely irrelevant.

Its why niggas like me can't take it seriously.

He was all personality and swag back then

He's upper echelon today.

Seriously -- how many rappers as nice as Big Pun are on the airwaves,
like, at all?

Jadakiss even?

Dude, Wiz Khalifah is considered a top lyricist today. He's barely
better than NORE, if at all.

Even guys I like, like Curren$y -- I had to admit that he's only good
when graded on a curve.

Be honest: Is Curren$y better than say....UGod?

Nope. He's not.

Its just the era. Rappers suck on average.

Not saying its even bad. Just a scientific observation.

He's really not considered that though. Even the people who like him admit that, as a rapper/MC/lyricist, he's pretty average.

he makes shitty music, but there's an audience that likes it. nobody likes wiz khalifa because he dates kanye's sloppy seconds. i'm pretty sure "black and yellow" came out before he even started dating her, which is the major reason why he's even in the conversation right now

That had a bunch of super youngish hot lyricists on the debut
of a rapper with tons of hype, just like this song

I recommend y'all listen to these songs back to back

The difference in quality is astonishing

Yikes

Despite coming out 15 years ago it sounds more current,
cleaner, better produced

The flows even sound cleaner, more refined, more current

Hell, even the punchlines and references are more current

Don't expect y'all to admit it, though

Half y'all think Kid Cudi a good rapper, soooo

when the beat needs to drop twice, there are one two many cooks in the kitchen. i already listed who i thought brought the goods here above, but overall i like this shit and shows IMO that Rocky knows his audience beyond "hipsters" are some old heads. So he gathered the most lovable of the new era's rappity-rap rappers in aims to create a new classic posse cut. its good not great.

crazy if Joey was speaking truthfully about Jay looking to sign him. personally, i think that'd be a good look

Danny is fucn awesome

and Krit, as i stated above, styled all over this muthafucka
