Some of the songs have cursing, but let's be real...98% of my students get cursed out by their mothers in front of the school every day, and their favorite rappers are chief keef and this local nigga currently serving a life sentence for walking like he talk it. So there's that...
With that being said, I kind of see this as my little method of exposing them to some music from a historical, cultural and aesthetic standpoint that i'm positive they would not be otherwise... So this is what I came up with.

Do you allow them to use earplugs if they prefer silence when they work? You are aware that plenty of students don't like to work to music, particularly vocal music?

many students don't realize that a quiet distraction free work environment is crucial to their ability to study successfully. I always use to think studying with music or the tv on was fine until I was forced to study in quiet. It resulted in greater focus greater productivity better results.
Not saying that's everyone's case but that is the case for many students I've come across.
But all that aside,the mix is proper and I wouldn't mind rockin' it.

I had an older teacher in high school who was really alternative and hipped me to a lot of dope music (Zero 7, Daft Punk, Ryan Adams, etc.) He played music softly in the background while we worked on assignments; if it was hip-hop, it would be the clean version of the songs (he was a big Outkast fan).
God willing, I'll be going into the teaching field as well. I probably would play something soft and instrumental, maybe some Brian Eno. If not that, I'd prefer silence. I kind of agree with the other posters about maintaining professionalism though. While some students might see you as the 'cool teacher' and dig some of the songs. Other students might prefer to work in silence and could be distracted by the music, especially songs with lyrics.

i had a high school art teacher who let us bring in music for while we worked. we got to take turns. there was sometimes disagreement where not everyone liked the choices, but we at least tolerated if not enjoyed whatever was brought in, and it felt appropriate. music can inspire creativity. i doubt anyone was that put off by the music when they were drawing or painting. i'm glad that i had peace and quiet outside of art and music classes because i could never study with music; when i tried, whatever i was reading couldn't sink in because i was straining my attention to listen to the music, too. studies have shown that music has wildly varying effects on people's concentration. if it were as simple as it helping everyone focus, then that would be great, but unfortunately a lot of people can't work well with music or certain kinds of it. as a teacher it's your responsibility to foster learning and good study habits. i'll leave it at that.

i'd be paying waaay too much attention to the music... and i was a mf'ing rockstar student... i just don't have that kind of focus and audible shit has always grabbed me away from what i'm looking at.. i think music w/o vocals would be alright.. i remember a geometry teacher used to play some chill instrumentals during tests and that was fine..
anyways, cool looking mix.. i'm glad kids are getting to hear some different shit

But that seemed appropriate because I kept it low, the students were working independently and they had their own headphones at their terminals, so most of them were probably tuning it out anyway.
I mostly played whatever I wanted to hear because, as soon as I started taking requests, it was a distraction.
I'm in the library now, so it's completely out of the question.
