"do you think azaelia banks career is over?"

http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshh6qQm14a4OIya1YqU

i want to go on the record and say it's all downhill from this point.
this is just straight up wack.
like the visuals, the song, everything.
nevermind she's on like her 7th video for a song that sounds the exact same as the last one.

it's sad people get so little "mileage" out of singles these days.
most acts repertoire is not that layered that they can "feed" the internet with something new every month/week/day...
it's just a total burn-out of an act with lackluster financial results.
i mean i'd doubt azaelia banks even has 10,000 dollars to her name.
some new paradigm this all is...

rationally in this case meaning accept any amount of money from the person who used his entire track without permission on a free release and then took steps toward selling it as a single all still without permission?

there could have been a court proceeding if he was really tight, except he didnt clear the sample himself

so he showed out and threw a tantrum, now no one domestically cares who he is again

no one on that tape got production credits or anything, she rapped on a lot of existing beats

It's supposed to drop in Feb, but I doubt it makes that date. I understand the discontent, but who else is making rap in her lane.

I shouldn't say this, but if she was fine she would be a way bigger deal.

My non-internet friends think she mad ugly....I think if she looked like Nitty Scott, MC the outlook would be different. It's a double standard, but it's real.

Personally tho, I like that's in my mind she's a Dipset member rapping over hipster music....and I want more of it.

Every time a new cat comes out the gate dissing trying to tear other artists down for attention i stop caring about the talent and focusing on the fact they let somebody bullshit them or chose to get on some gimmick beef starting shenanigans.

I don't even care if the people they talking about deserve the criticism, don't come out swinging when we don't know you won't fall into that same lane. . . which you just did for even talking shit when you brand new!!! argrrghrh!!!

Why?

1)The lesson doesn't dance
2)The lesson is homophobic as hell

Assuming she stops beefing with producers(which is the WORST career sabatoge she can do considering her niche), she's got a long lucrative dance music career ahead of her. You know, the charts that traditionally nobody cared about but kept Deborah Cox's career going for over a decade*

*That said, i wonder how much overlap is there between the billboard dance and billboard top pop charts; ive got a sneaking suspicion its not as much you would expect in 2012z

How many people on here (I don't do clubs so myself included) can even comprehend the type of impact she can have on the dance scene? All we know is that she's doesn't have any "rap" hits yet, and she doesn't seem to be getting the type of traction on hip-hop radio to become the next Nicki Minaj.

Her biggest hit was a dance song.
Her mixtape has no straight forward hip-hop songs outside of her Dipset cover, it's all difference genre's of DANCE.

Considering she can spit and r&b has a horrible fascination currently with euro dance music if her career continues she can come back around and make waves in traditional black folks music...but her current trajectory would put her firmly out of reach of anyone on here to keep track of. For anyone to keep track of goings on in dance music you kinda have to give everything else up, lol...it requires way too much focus since its so fast moving.

she raps on dance music and at times sings.

her lane is part of the new generation of club kids dressing like its the 80s in the future popping molly and smoking kush like their nicotine fiends

it works very well in that environment

and you she also has a couple of tradtional slappers as well

as far as her as a person/public persona, running her mouth, beefing with people who don't give two shits about her (Jim Jones) or were building reps with her (Munchi) it's just fucn dumb and off putting

>she raps on dance music and at times sings.

she uses the same song structure on every song i've ever heard from her.
not to mention the beat that she uses are all atypical.
it's gotten dull.
this just is an exclaimation mark.
she's really going to have to drop something dope and new to rejuvenate the interest and "likers" (not fans) she will lose from this horrible dud.

>her lane is part of the new generation of club kids dressing
>like its the 80s in the future popping molly and smoking kush
>like their nicotine fiends

every year since 2006 this has been presented as the "new generation".
this shit you outlined is 7 fucking years old.
and if you really have been paying attention it goes all the way back to like 2002/2003 in LES circles.
here's what you're being naive about.
this is so bad and trite that it's straight up DATED.
if this had dropped exactly as it is in perhaps 2008 this might have ruffled some feathers in the blogosphere.
it's just sadly out of date at this point.
and it just raises a huge chink in azealia's armor to anyone with an astute sense of observation...
is she just going through the motions to try to get indie blog "relevancy" and fame via making the same house-hop song over and over and slapping them to some stereotypical "hipster" aesthetics in an attempt to up her "buzz"?

i'll let you decide.
i'm just saying that after this color me disinterested.
she's going to really have to come back with a curve ball that is DYNAMITE to counterbalance how wack this new video/"single"/"buzzbuilding" clip was.

I do agree with this point. She's gunna have to show alot of growth on this new album or else she'll fade. It's a shame because I think she's dope but we know the pressure and expectations are much higher for black female artists.

but not forgetting.
this is a huge misstep anyway you slice it.
she will probably "apologize" for this "single" at some point due to the response it's receiving.
but think: what will she actually be apologizing for?
i mean she just thought this is what y'all wanted from her, right? lol.

she misstepped. Every artist does this. No one's apologizing lol.

she got the gay crowd on her back. she got fucking Diplo on her back. Damn near all of Europe on her back wtf.

She'll be fine...but the key is her humility. She needs to calm down on that Diva shit. It's waaaay too premature.

Blogs have gone in on Skrillex for YEARS with sneak dissing on Bro-step while he pandered directly to Middle American kids trying to dance...it's only after the teens overseas accepted him with open arms in the past year that they've switched their tune.

The question is will that will the whole 80s/90's throwback appeal to the dance community as much as the bloggers...will she be able to eventually parley that into a Guetta phone call? Zomby's throwback 'Where were you in 92' was a huge album few years ago, but I have the sneaking suspicion that most real dance fans ain't give a fuck.

A 'hit' from her in the traditional sense bubbling up enough for us to hear & be impressed would NOT be good for her career imho.

yup, but how do you know this is a dud, and why do you care, if you're not a fan. why are you invested in pointing this out. i agree with you about what she's doing, but don't care, because it's not music i listen too. her song with Style P I like though

that's typical of club culture. every few years certain clicks and scenes in major cities think they're doing something new, when it's really just dressing up in the latest trends, drinking, doing drugs and hoping to have sex with varients of house and electronic music as the sound track. this been the thing since disco.

again if the song just came out how do you know if, it's a dud and why do you care. where you a fan?

you know what? i was a fan.
i love early 90's house almost unconditionally.
i don't really know many of these new names she's rapping over but maybe i should.
anyway, she is a really effective rapper in that she actually MATCHES her tracks with her voice and rapping.
it's dull to me that she's making the same song so many times over and over again but then we get "this" debacle of a video...
i'm ready to write her off unless she drops something new, and by new i mean something that's different and enjoyable.

It's shitty promo and doesn't make her seem any more interesting to pay attention too. At first I put it up to the fact that she is young & ratchet first, ask questions later goes with that territory..but now it's just a cry for attention.

As the cat above said, she will have a good career in dance music if she stays with good production. Her two main flaws are (1) her self-sung choruses, she should get another female voice and (2) her being sold as a big name artist by the flailing music industry, instead of a genre artist good for a solid late-night single to take drugs to.

I think what Bammers cynicism is coming from is the feeling that the internet is good for highlighting talent and/or 'different' music personas, but hasn't proved it can incubate talent like a chitlin circuit or any real sub-culture. Everything comes out half-baked.

That's why most stuff comes out half-baked. We hear about these all acts before they've put in the type of work that will give you an idea as to whether they are built to last. These websites are in competition with each other, so it makes sense to try and jump on the next big thing before everyone else. The downside is every little ray of hope gets to be treated like the damn Sun, if only for a span of a week to two months. Before the internet explosion these acts had to grind it out locally in hopes of getting a half a page to a page in a major music publication. I think all the early hype is a hindrance to an artist's development. All that coverage probably makes them feel like they are destined for success as long as they stay the course. Some might already feel like they have succeeded.

I thought it was dope though I love her beat selection
The mixtape is very elctro/dubstep/house influenced
Back in 08 I got hip to housed via araquals mixes and
Shinobi shaw but prior to that I would've had the same
Thoughts about the tape. The beat selection is dope
Esp the one that samples the donell Jones track

Maybe in a few cities with a strong
Electronic/dance presence (miami maybe?)
I can see her making an impact in the UK
And in Europe which is cool too she might
Get some play on some pop stations too.

At least you attempted to listen to her though

It would've made more impact than this song
This isnt one of the stronger cuts.off the tape.
But overall I enjoyed the tape
I think that she's still growing and the album
Will not sound like "fantasea" but more
Like "1991" very house ish with a slower tempo
I like her vocals so hopefully she expounds
On what that 1991 video did for her.

Her and machinedrum are a great combo imo

how he landed placements for 8 years without producing a top 40 hit single will go down as the greatest streak of being rewarded for dropping duds in contemporary music history.

name another "in demand" producer that went 8 years between hits.

it's unprecedented imo.
that was the crux of that post.
that pharrell was still in demand despite failing for almost a decade.
and there's nothing incorrect about any of that.
