But apparently he is still making music, though under a different name (supposedly his *real* one)

He just wasn't cut out for the industry... personality-wise, he was not equipped to handle it.

Thanks for this. The file I had was faulty as well - kept clipping near the climax, so you'd hear "again" again and again. This is much more listenable.

There was this demo that someone (I think CRM, possibly) posted a few years back. I can't remember the name, but the lyric began something like: "If you were to describe for me a rainbow, you would leave me with the feeling it was black and white ..." It wasn't the cleanest recording and can't have been much longer than a minute or so.

Anyone remember the song I'm talking about? Better yet, anyone able to link it up? I'd love to have the thing again.

Not the 2004 one, but this homemade EP of covers and throwaways he supposedly only made 100 copies of and sold at one gig (and briefly online). The tracklist:

1. Track (acoustic)
2. Song (acoustic)
3. Lucky (acoustic)
4. If I Lay Down With You (acoustic)
5. Melt Away (Brian Wilson cover)
6. Stop, Look, Listen (The Stylistics cover)
7. Night Fever (The Bee Gees cover)
8. Highway Star (Deep Purple cover)
9. Heart of the Sunrise (Yes cover)
10. Black Dog (Led Zeppelin cover)

1-6 eventually became available elsewhere, and I managed to find "Night Fever" and "Heart Of The Sunrise" (which is absolutely *insane*) - but I still need "Highway Star" and "Black Dog". (I even have the Capt. Beefheart TROUT MASK REPLICA project he was working on and never released, and I don't have those two.)

Anybody care to help me out with that, goodies await you.

Rumor has it that someone turned D'Angelo to Lewis Taylor's first album and when D heard "Damn", he wanted to cover it. Can anyone confirm?

http://www.popmatters.com/pm/feature/taylor-lewis-060208/

The best chance that Taylor had to breakthrough to American audiences, particularly the Neo-Soul nation, was a possible collaboration with D’Angelo on what would eventually become the much delayed Voodoo (2000). Many Neo-Soul audiences first heard of Taylor via D’Angelo’s claims that he was a fan of Taylor’s. As Taylor explains his relationship with the equally enigmatic D’Angelo, “Around ‘98, I got a call from one of his manager guys ... they just had a bunch of ideas, they weren’t really sure what it is they wanted. I think their idea was to get me over and figure it out while I was over there.” What Taylor really suspects is that “they were having a little bit of difficulty keeping (D’Angelo) focused ... He’s getting invited to all these crazy parties and they are trying to keep him in the studio” hoping that “(I) would be a calming influence on him.” To make a very long story short, Taylor spent four days in a New York City hotel with no contact with anyone from D’Angelo camp. “I just got very fed-up with it, I threw a hissy-fit and I left, without even telling them,” Taylor recalls. “The two of us have still to this day, never met.”

however they're all high quality audio, so anyone wanting to fill up their LT archive can easily find a way to grab the mp3s if they wished. not that i'm encouraging that sorta thing (hi Lewis!).

I've been able to find almost all songs from the "Limited Edition 2002" album (still looking for 'If I Lay Down With You') but only as 128kbps MP3 Files.

Does anyone have higher quality audio files?
