>Again, has this person ever attended a Prince show? > >It's a strange beef...
During the late 90's I saw "Jam of The Year" shows in both Austin, TX. & San Antonio that were some serious snoozers. The Rolling Stone review reminded me of those shows.
I've seen dude maybe 6-7 yrs ago in San Jose and felt like I was in the world's biggest T.G.I. Friday's. That was around "Musicology" or something where the material was just a blandido as I'd ever seen, so he covered that schitt up quick with corny ass acoustic versions of "Little Red Corvette" and that like, that was just #NAW.
It's as if Prince has "I'm pushing an album" shows, and also updated versions of the "Hit & Run" tour.
He caught so much flack for those super medley heavy J.O.T.Y. shows that part of the marketing campaign of later tours were "No Medley's".
At this point...there's no "new" material he's passionate about selling to fans old or new, he's not really hurting for money (a la paying for a divorce, in the red w/ Paisley Park, etc.), nobody has really lit a competitive fire under his competitive ass (Voodoo vs. The Rainbow Children was real to him), he's quasi pushing the Andy Allo/Van Jones agenda, it IS Chicago...so he might be trying to get his "Soul Man" on in lieu of getting his "I'm The Bruce Lee of Music" funk/rock/pop/songwriter workshop on (these by the way are THE BEST PRINCE SHOWS YOU WILL SEE NOWADAYS, considering whichever agenda he's serving).
So...yeah. Hard to tell who this particular "Prince" is from the show reviews and his appearance on the View last week...but, if I go to any of his shows, I'm expecting some sick ass guitar playing, a dope ass piano segment, a song or two where he's KILLING a bass guitar, and maybe he's jamming on some drums or percussion for 1/2 a tune. Didn't sound like none of that happened.
Sounds like he's bored.
I speak "Prince",yo.
