"the Jacksons albums>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>the time albums"

Destiny and triumph stomp a mudhole through the time albums and it ain't even close.

better songs

better production

singing is better on the jacksons, Marlon Jackson alone ain't ever sounded as constipated as Morris day did.

better live performances

better arrangements

THE GOAT ARTIST you know who lead the Jacksons and OWNED the 80's and also is missed right now.

Hilarious, right?

The irony is, it's basically one dude (Prince) vs. 5 brothers (Jacksons), with a focused and ambitious MJ leading the charge....

Then there are the powerful, elite session musicians that backed the Jacksons up on those two DOPE albums...Shit reads like an all-star line up (Michael Sembello, Greg Phillinganes, Paul Jackson, Jr., drummer Rick Marotta, and Thomas Washington, Ronnie Foster, Phil Upchurch, Webster Lewis, Michael Boddicker, and Ollie Brown....)

When it comes to those albums, it's like Bron James (P) virtually by himself vs. young Kobe (Mike) and the Lakers....

The only question is, who's Tito?

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

the time albums had some tight grooves parts of the first album and the second album were cool, after that a hot mess with hit and miss results.

nobody cared about no time records from ice cream castles on to this last album yo.

and there were at least 3-4 folks on those time albums including Lisa Coleman, Dr Fink, Andre Cymone, morris day, and Prince behind it. Jesse Johnson had some things on there as well.

bottom line ain't nothing from the time touching Michael King Jackson's "Heartbreak Hotel which FYI he wrote, arranged and Produced.

the Jacksons had Money tracks, and better overall songs than the time.

the time were talented but also a novelty act which was cool like a Prize in a cracker jack box until you got a little bit older and knew what to expect.

the time thing was happening in 81-83 however after jam and lewis were bounced it went flat and that band was never the same.

and they had a almost good debut album, a really good second album and then a average 3rd and 4th album and then a alright 5th album.

the Jacksons had it all on destiny and triumph period.

that bad singing on "Girl" was the tito of the time. somebody sanging like a doctor is tugging at the jewels or something.

bad singing on those time albums and don't even front because Prince and Morris were sounding like two wounded Bears being pimp slapped by Yoggi Bear on some of those cuts. grunting it out.

I didn't read the rest of that random babble...But this ^^^^ drew me in...

Bottom line...Prince was basically a one man band on those Time albums save for Lisa and Fink doing keyboard work on a couple of songs ("The Stick" being their biggest contribution...)....

Everything else? Prince doing his one-man-band/producer/arranger thing with Morris on vocals...By now, we all know that P was playing puppet master...To me, the fact that the Time was able to blow up into a INCREDIBLE live act is part of the story for that group...Everyone knows the sick talent in that group, from Jesse being a dynamic guitarist to Jam & Lewis becoming the best producers of the 80s...So their talent cannot be disputed...Prince just wasn't having it...That fool was on some Control Freak shit to the extreme...

All this to say, if you are trying to make the foolish comparison between those first two Time albums and those Jacksons albums (I'm still trying to figure out why this silly post was even made? Can't people love and respect all of those albums...Par for the course, huh?)it's not even a fair fight..

It's basically 1 (P) against 5 (MJ and his bros) + some GREAT session musicians...

And P still had the bigger musical/artistic impact on R&B with those two Time albums...After those albums, all those R&B bands cut down their line-ups, went synth-crazy, and streamlined their funk...

That's the great thing about history, Maxx...When it's well documented, it's nearly impossible to refute...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

the jacksons made better albums the time were a novelty fun act which had a moment in time, no pun intended, however the Jacksons tore there behind up with better songs and production.

Prince did his best stuff on Prince iMO period.

the time were tight live however they ain't that great and are a bit overrated. the Stone City band would run the finger waves off there head.

and the time wasn't seeing no Frankie Beverly and Maze, Lakeside, Gap Band, Con FUnk Shun either. i was there.

after there 2nd album it was a wrap basically aside from Jungle love.

the time first album had 3 joints and the rest were hit and miss at best.

the time suffered from the One Man band thing because the records got flater after what time is it IMO

and Prince fell off and badly by not having a fuller sound period. it was cool 30 years back, however it was pasty and corny by 84 and onward

I don't dispute that Prince and The Time probably spurred it to become more or less the norm by mid-decade, though.

Nah...I'm talking about before the mid 80s...

That first Time album came out in '81...Black radio was ALL over that album...I mean, you could actually see the shift taking place...

Of course there was something bubbling before Prince decided to go heavy on the synths and drum machines...But P pushed it over the cliff and lead the way...

U can basically track all of the stand-out R&B groups/acts BEFORE/AFTER that Time album and hear Prince's influence big time...They all ran to his sound...

Before that first Time album this is what was happening in R&B---

Cameo--Knights of the Sound Table (Larry and the boys were still rolling 10 deep and using their horns more than the synths....)...But after Prince's Dirty Mind and those two Time albums you get the DOPE Alligator Women....The great thing about Cameo is that they were able to incorporate Prince's stripped down sound/New Wave-funk sound and put their own stamp on it...

Bar-Kays---As One...

Traditional funk album...heavy on the horns....By November though (Almost 5 months after that first Time album) they bring out Night Cruising...U can hear Prince/Time in a huge way on certain tracks, especially on one of its big singles "Hit And Run" (aka "Get It Up")...

Solar Records/Leon Sylvers----

Was still doing traditional R&B with those Lakeside, Midnight Star, Shalamar albums before early '81...But late '81/early 82 Leon was giving his own HEAVY nod to the Minneapolis sound...That late 81/early 82 Whispers album featuring "In The Raw" is a huge example of that style change...I can't get enough of hearing stories about Prince going crazy because he thought Leon was stealing his sound...lol

P-Funk--The Electric Spanking of War Babies...

Indeed, George and crew were utilizing the synthesizer HEAVY since "Flashlight"....But they still had that chaotic sound on this album...They still were rolling deep on those albums band wise and utilizing traditional drums and horns...

But once George saw the handwriting on the the wall (this is why they were the best out of all the 70's bands...GC and P-funk wasn't afraid to change with the times) and took one of those outtakes from that album and re-arranged it to the "Atomic Dog" we know and love today, it was evident the impact Prince/The Time had on the scene...Even George stripped down his sound...Synth = horns...

And we won't get into Rick even admitting that he used Prince's equipment to make much of Street Songs (more influenced by Dirty Mind...but that's another story....)

This ^^^^^^^is mostly P's imprint...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

turkey please Rick James used the equipment and showed Prince how to use it the right way.

street songs>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince 78-81 live with it.

Prince couldn't hold Rick's leather boots on the grooves and impact.

prince didn't hit it out the park until 1999. it took him 4-5 years to get it right yo.

I will say this...I think it would have been more interesting to hear what Prince could do with Dez songwriting wise beyond that 'High School'joint...Just a what if...

But as is, those two Time albums kicked ass...Prince was a monster...And Morris was the perfect frontman...

ANd that fact is, "What time is it" came out August 25th, 1982. August 25, 2012 was the 30th anniversary. That is why I made that post. The rest is whatever.

I imagine that there is a lot of intersection between Jacksons/MJ fans and fans of that album, and NO one would think of comparing them

in fact, the discussion was mostly centered on that album, the songs on it, and what might have been

why are you so adverse to people not discussing the 1% of music?

NOBODY AT ALL said ANYTHING about ANYBODY being better than the Jacksons! YOU - YOUR RETARDED ASS brought that into it, and made it all of this.

There is something seriously wrong with you.
I'm sick of you lowering the IQ of this place EVERY FUCKING TIME you post.

maxxx is here to be sure that any time we give appreciation to any act who operates in the same lane as any of those 4 (as he sees it)that those 4 acts get their due as he sees it.

someone should try a different set of meds for him. the current regimen isn't working.

It should already be established fact that those dudes are legends, NOBODY HERE has nor WILL they ever try to take that away from them

We should be able to have in-depth discussions about ANY major pop star from the 70s or 80s WITHOUT MENTION of the Jacksons without it devolving into a playground battle of "my favorite artist can beat up your favorite artist"
