but it sounds like you're interested in looks and these may not fit that bill. They sound great though, I still hear new things on old albums and I've had them for six years now. Replaced the earpads this year after daily use five days a week for years.

I love Sennheiser, but Audio Technica and Beyer are probably better. I just dig the fuck out of the look of their HD598s that I copped a few months ago:

sr60i's are where i started. not the best for hip-hop due to lack of bass, but there are some easy mods you can do to "improve" them. moved up to the sr325is's, so i no longer have that problem.
looks-wise, they're not for everybody. if you're looking for something that looks good without sacrificing too much sound quality, i have no major complaints about my rza x wesc chambers street headphones, besides them retailing for $50 more than i'd be comfortable paying.

So even if they're good, you're being ripped off.
Also avoid Skullcandy (complete crap) and Bose (same logic as the celebrity endorsements)
Best brands are Ultrasone, Denon, Audio Technica, Sennhesier, Grado, AKG. Sony has some good ones, but they're hit or miss overall.
I use Sennheiser HD555's at home, where I don't need noise isolation. If you go with these, google HD555 foam mod to get better sound. I use Sony MDR-V6's when I do need noise isolation, since they're closed.
This site has useful measurements for frequency response, noise isolation, etc.

I been rocking with Sennheiser HD555's for a few years. The only beef I have with them is the build quality. They broke in 2 places so someone gave me some Grado SR80i's for X-Mas. They sound straight but they hurt the hell out of my ears after about 30 minutes which sent me right back to my busted up HD555's. Gonna have to break down and buy a new pair some time, rocking masking tape on your earphones is not a good look.
