I wish the beat was a bit more epic... but it's dope.

Nas totally killed it... probably my favorite verse of his in a long, long time. Lots of rewind-worthy bars.

I also really like how Face & Nas kinda hit it from different emotions... Face kinda comes off sad, whereas Nas seems pissed.

Dope song for sure.

From Eye for an Eye, Verbal Intercourse ! Ether ! We major, that Lil Wayne and Rick Ross collabo, etc...

I mean he can rip it on faster tracks of course, but this kind of beat structure seems to give him more freedom to play more and say more. Also he sounds hungry and raps as if he has a lot to prove, if not to equal what he already knows Scarface will do.

And sure enough, Scarface did what Scarface does, and it is nothing short of superlative. I understand that it is Scarface who sounded blown over by his collaborator's input, almost daunted by it. 'But he doesn't have to feel small, nor do I think he does. He is just a fan of hip-hop when it is done right.

That's why the best rappers are the oldest rappers, because they were fans first and they remain fans to this day. Scarface responds to Nas's verse like a fan and that is so endearing to see. I also like that Khaled is almost like a DJ Premier groupie ! Any true lover of hip-hop would be. We're fans !

Great track ! I had it on repeat three times.

I'm sure Nas felt the same way hearing his verse because I think he's the only person that could get that sadness across like that

...clearly masterminded the concept of the album, especially THE song. I'm shocked it had to be Khaled that came with the idea of that "hip-hop" song. You just never know who the true fans of hip-hop are !

All Nas, Face and DJ Premier did was execute and they did it beautifully. 'But it needs to be said over and over again that the artistic vision was all Khaled's; how the song would sound and what and how Premier would mix and scratch.

IMO, that makes Khaled much closer to songwriter/producer than an A & R is.

not trying to be a debbie downer or whatever, but how many fucking songs have been made about "hip hop?"

"fuck hip hop," "she's a lying bitch," "i used to love her," blah blah blah.

Obviously Khaled also, of all people, loves them too, more than some of us ever imagined. That means, we can all co-exist loving these "hip-hop" songs and all non-"hip-hop" songs.

You know what they say about tastes.

i mean i'm happy for dudes like Khaled living out their dreams and making these big records with their heroes, but at the same time watching that video i'm like, ugh, i dunno it just makes me uncomfortable and kinda sad. I dunno, all that false urgency, feigned excitement. the scene with Jada just kinda made me chuckle. i guess i'm a dickhead.

i'm definitely just over the whole romanticizing hip hop thing, but maybe i shouldn't expect everyone else to feel the same way.

agreed. the Jada scene was WILD embarrassing. i don't need to be told what's about to epic. epic happens naturally and usually isn't this thought out.

I get what u r saying...

I just find it interesting that we as hip-hop fans complain about such concepts being repeated...Personally, I don't care if fools are rapping about dish rags...If it's done at a high level that's all that matters....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Cats ain't complainin bout materialism and ho chasin.
THEN you will have point with this. Cats literally repeat the same concepts
over and over. No outrage. NIGGAS just care whether they can bob they
head to it or not. Fuck it. Do the same with this and KIM.

by average MC's. Face and Nas's version is the hardest and most heartfelt I have ever heard. I didn't expect that at all. They make it sound as if they are talking about a real person.

Regardless, rapping about hip-hop shouldn't be boring, especially if it is done by true fans who truly love it. Nas and Face may be amongst the greatest of hip-hop fans ever. That's what I got from that song. The following are some of the best songs that we love by our favourite MC's that take us back, or through an anthology of what the culture is

Juicy - Notorious BIG
A life in the day of... - Andre3000
Sixteen - Andre3000's verse
Hip-hop - Mos Def
Hip-hop DJ Khaled featuring Nas and Face
I used to love H.E.R - Common

Justice League's Epic Sound Is Wearing Thin, Face & Nas Did Their Thing But I'm Over This.

If I'm gonna listen to Khaled, I'd rather hear shit like 'I'm On One' than this kinda joint.

too cliche-dramatic sounding to me.

I keep finding myself going right into 'Loco-Motive' rather than sit through it.

I skip that, 'Accident Murder' and 'Summer on Smash' nowadays.
