At least in Stevie's case, he didn't brag about the stuff he left in his vault which leads me to think that he does think of it as unfinished or subpar results.
Prince however, he keeps entertaining all that mess about Roadhouse Garden, the unreleased Time album and unreleased extended versions about some of his loved songs. Not to mention, he keeps singing many of them live as well. So you don't know whether he was pleased with them or not, and yet he raises an eyebrow when his fans exchange these songs.
As for remastering his official albums, I'm done believing that WB is the villain @ this point. In fact, I'm not even excited about the idea about him handling the reissuing HIMSELF once he owns those masters, because when you put his beliefs(respectively) and his older music in the same sentence, its either two choices, sanitize them or shelve them.

if anyone's old shit would sell with a "shiny new wrapper", it's Prince. and Warners would be all for it.

but damn it sounds weird all slowed down and w/o Lisa & Wendy and the Hallway speech. i prefer the muddier, faster version. b/c it's faster. and it's got the Poor Lonely Computer speech.

Its the same song. All he did later was add an echo to his voice/production with overdubs from W&L and another guitar track. This is the original rhythm track.
I love this one, it has a grimy warehouse feel to it(and thats exactly where he recorded it in) and plus, you could hear the bass more clearly, another example of how much of an overlooked bassist Brown Mark is.
