"so Jimmy Cliff has a new album out and it's pretty damn good"

'Rebirth' bucks the Johnny Cash/Gil Scott Heron/Bobby Womack trend of updating an old great by giving him a new sound and instead sounds like a lost album from the late 60's that someone managed to dig up in a vault in Jamaica.

Jimmy hasn't lost a step...his voice sounds great here and he sounds locked in to these tracks.

The real story here is Rancid's Tim Armstrong...that's right, I said Rancid. He handles production for the album and he's created a thing a beauty. There's no wonder where Jimmy got his inspiration, he must have flashed back to his heyday when he heard these tracks.

This is beautiful, vintage reggae...check it out.

in the vein of The Clash doing 'Police & Thieves' on their first album.

So heaing Jimmy Cliff covering that song makes a lot of sense, as actually does Armstrong producing with him being a big ska/roots enthusiast.
