"did you hear a Donna Summer influence on Whitney Houston?"

i just ask because when you think back they each had there own music lanes and also Whitney had some bumpers in there and vocally they have the church in there sound, etc..

did you ever think about them and there impact back in the day? also dolly Parton recently after Donna had passed said how incredible she felt donna was,etc.. and do you think they could have each covered one another's career and been just as great?

they are two of the baddest sisters ever period

Donna Summer didn't have a Gospel flair to her style. There are Disco singers with Gospel styled vocals: Loleatta Holloway, Gloria Gaynor, and shit even Sylvester *looks at camera* did.

but Donna Summer ain't one of 'em.

this doesn't even sound good on paper. They have NO stylistic connection, imo.

Whitney? sure. But Donna Summer was a Disco Vocalist, at best. I don't consider her on the "A-List" of female vocalists. Not a knock on her, but for *me* it was more about her production than her singing.

Mcaruthur Park, on the radio and the runs in Last dance, singing disco and being on point as she was wasn't easy she was the real deal.

I'm just sayin, when I compile my list, she's usually not on it...

Maybe not stylistically or vocally, but in terms of reaching a certain type of audience, I can see what you're saying..

Hmm, honestly I'm not sure. I think because both of them really had their one thing and they stuck with it it's hard for me to really envision either one of them switching lanes. I know Selena had a great admiration and respect for Donna though. Donna was one of her favorites and she always paying homage by doing covers of her songs.
