"Rick James >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Prince (no shock post)"

I'm not even going to go all out and write out paragraphs after paragraphs but I'll put it like this:

Rick James' voice >>>>>>>>>>>>> Prince's voice. Rick had some golden pipes. He's one of the best singers of all time in my honest opinion. This isn't even a contest. Prince is an average singer at best. I think he gets over big time with singing and only because he plays a handful of instruments.

Rick James as a writer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Prince as a writer. Although, Prince got a longer run as a writer, it's always quality over quantity in my opinion. And for what Rick James did in his prime and peak era, outshines Prince's prime and peak era.

Rick James as a producer >>>>>>>>>>> Prince as a producer. Rick James could not only produce for himself but his Stone City Band and the Mary jane Girls and makes hits. Prince did produce for the Time, Vanity 6 /Apollonia 6 and Sheila E but none of those songs were on the level of a My House or All Night Long. Those two songs alone are better than ANYTHING Prince did with his proteges and acts.

I don't quite get why Rick James doesn't really get his respect and due other than the fact that he was Black because if he was White, he'd been Gene Simmons (whom he was inspired by but was better than). But for all it's worth at his peak, Rick James could hang with the best of the best. Prince was like a generic and bland version of him.

just appreciate the man and his talent w/o putting his talent or his work up against an act like Prince.

damn.

Rick was the shit, w/o regard for what anyone else did.

i mean, Prince won. so why keep the debate going? Rick lost. but that obscures the greatness Rick achieved throughout his career. the highs he reached. the jams he came up with. his innovations. all that is overshadowed when Prince is mentioned. it's at least overshadowed by a debate that won't convince anyone who's mind is already made up.

by just talking about Rick w/o mentioning Prince or Cameo or Slave or Stevie et al, you just might turn someone on to Rick who's not hip. or is on the fence. but if you introduce his stuff as being better than ___, if ppl listen and find it's not better than ___, they may not delve any further. b/c maybe they only listened to find out if they agree w/your opinion.

unless this is just another unmedicated maxxx alias. in which case...never mind.

fuck you.

I'm talking about music, nothing else. The music is where Rick James shined. That's what I know by hearing and listening to it. Aside from that, I know nothing else about the man, not anything factual. So all that other stuff is irrelevant.

Again.....he lost in "Music" as well. The life part is obvious. Rick James was a legend. He was GREAT. He was Talented. He was all of that. The drugs and lifestyle stopped him from having as much music as he could have. Prince to me overall has better music and more music.

Prince >>>>>>> Rick James ........is that what the idea of the post is...to compare them? Thats what I think fam.

But see that's the thing, Prince comes off as a bootleg stiff version of Rick James. And the fact that Prince piggybacked onto what Rick James was doing in the late 70's and early 80's, took that and ran with it, is why he gets mentioned. Also add to the fact that Prince is overrated. He's good but not great in my opinion. His music to me sounds like it was cool for the 80's but now it's like "oh, so that's what was hot in the 80's" whereas Rick James' music sounds more than just the 80's and a trip down memory lane.

And no, this ain't no alias. This is Black N Proud.

He was upset with him. Rick James was an innovator but Prince had more success than Rick did and Prince saw the benefits of Rick James success whereas Rick James didn't.

and the reason why rick didnt see the benefits of his own success because he shot his own ass in the foot by doing all of them fucking drugs.....Prince worked very hard for his success and he saw it and that is the difference. Prince was a much smarter man than rick period blank....

meanwhile, prince can rip a ballad in his sleep.

rick james golden era didn't last as long as prince's.
if memory serves, rick james has "come get it," "busting out of L7," "street songs," and "fire it up."

not only that, none of the albums none of the albums rick james ever released
is anywhere near prince has "dirty mind, controversy, 1999, purple rain, parade, sign of the times,"

not to mention 2 pretty much perfect time albums.

prince produced more classic songs for other artists.

no. no...

How about this one, Prince can't hardly even sing, period. Prince's voice is weak at times especially when he tries to go all high with it and at his very best he's an average singer. Hell, Prince has gotten showed up on his own songs with covers by other artist. (Chaka Khan and Melissa Morgan). And as far as an artist have a longer run, it means nothing to me if the quality doesn't meet up with the quantity. If there's quantity than quality than it ain't saying much. Look at how much Hendrix changed the course of Rock music in just like 4 years. An artist can spend years and years putting out music but if it doesn't have that top notch quality thing going on, it's not saying much of anything at all.

Rick James could sing ballads like it was nothing. Dream Maker, Hollywood, Summer Love, Ebony Eyes, Fire and Desire, Teardrops, etc. Rick James could belt out some ballads.

Come Get It!, Bustin Out of L Seven, Fire It Up, Garden of Love (this album is his Parade, he did it before Prince and better.) Street Songs is to Rick what Purple Rain is to Prince and in my opinion Street Songs is better. Throwin Down is overlooked as well as Cold Blooded.

Oh yeah and Rick James The Flag album was Sign O The Times before Sign O The Times. Rick was addressing issues and getting political with it before Prince. And Rick's Wonderful album was better than Prince Lovesexy, both of which came out in 88'.

Prince didn't win nothing and is overrated. turkey has stunk from 88 til now. 1)

Putting out 2nd and 3rd tier lite weight muzak. going back to his vault and making corny remakes. 2)

you so Prolific and play all these instruments and can't make a legit song or a beat no more? throws on a lIBERACE wIG and makes corny songs and chants. 3)

Prince got a pass for being Great a long time ago and it was a Long time ago.

RIck James done had more turkeys sample and loop his stuff and he stayed Black with it. 3)

Prince got Black and folks moved on. nobody wanna see some corny rich millionaire turkey try to play all Cornell West when he gets older after playing all soft back in the day. 4)

yeah Rick James moved me more and He won. better with the funk, better with the slow jams, better with the fusion and he threw down Live. 5)

Prince did everything after Rick.

Prince took a whole to get his sound together, to get his writing together to get his entertainment routine together.

the only thing Prince got going for him over Rick is that he plays as a instrumentalist better, however in terms of the music, produced, quality and depth Rick whipped that turkey and presed him like Chicken George's Feathers.

you can tell ain't alot of real Black Folks in here because the real Black folks I know would Co sign this and not even think twice.

Rick James>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince
Michael Jackson>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince
El Debarge>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince

Lionel B.Richie>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince

R.Kelly>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince

Barry White>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince

Stevie,Wonder, Marvin gaye,Sly Stone>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince

Brian Mcknight>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince and funnier and did more with the internet on a inside joke than Prince has ever done and its a Black thang.

only Purple Kool Aid drinkers think otherwise. Prince ain't counted in 25 years and been living off that ole Purple time warp pass.

these purple turkeys talk about Prince more than there own 2nd cousins whom they ain't seen in 30 years.

Rick james Music is timeless and still funky.

James is Better? its all subjective anyway and the sad part is when a Rick James fan speaks from the heart of the matter you got haters

saying well Rick was on drugs or he lost,etc..

how did rick Lose when he was awarded for being the most Sampled act by the highest award from Billboard back in 2004?

how do you lose when your work is respected 25 years later by a entire generation of music ears and fans?

and he already had classics and established acts so the Man left a Lasting mark.

i'd take Rick James over alot of other Great acts.

Rick brought back Smokey RObinson a Gospel song" Ebony Eyes"

Rick got the Temptations Modern again.

Rick had the touch and had vision.

No....it's not....1)It's cowardly alias posting...2)No one ever said you couldn't like Rick more than Prince....I love Rick...Always will...Hell, I dig Lil Wayne more than say Eminem...But I would never say that Wayne is the all around "better" lyricist...You can like/love an artist over another artist...Doesn't mean that they are "better" in the bigger scheme of things...

The Lesson is already in hell....This place needs some help...And some new blood...Threads like this don't help...

if one feels they are better than live with it, you just catch feelings because somebody ain't clurping from the purple kool adi fountain and it gets to you.

i don't lose no sleep when somebody proclaims somebody is beter than spmebody i like.

its cool and healthy.

Lil Wayne to somebody is the baddest rapper going and alot of folks feel that EMinem beneifits from being white and at the right place at the right time and also they feel that Em can't carry Weezie's dreds or his braces.

purple Kool Aid diabetic turkeys all scared and crying because there are folks who feel and know that there are far better artists than Prince.

Rick James ran the Perm off of His Prince's head with a far better sound and was more Soulful with his.

Urban Rapisody>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Prince90's til Now and it ain't even close.

Lionel B.Richie far better Songwriter and songs hold up far better.

R.Kelly please Prince can't hold ARRUH's Pied Piper Mask.

El Debarge is more Versatile than Prince and a far better vocalist and just as talented of a Musician.

Michael Jackson owned the 80's and Prince bowed down to the King of Pop.

a MJ Hologram show is more lively than a Prince show right now.

Barry White madd better music and Prince couldn't hold Barry's Ultra Perm Kit.

Stevie Wonder ran circles around Prince.

anybody who doesn't worship at the Prince altar 1)

anybody who speaks there opinion and ups another important artist from the 80's in R&B 2)

and they all think like a clique and a cult up in here. the Purple Illuminati of OKP Lesson is always in full effect believe that. 3)

you say something about Prince and the Purple Sirens go off and then they gang up and explode 4)

this is a trip though because in the almost decade that I have been here they have accused 3 or 4 folks of being me and personally its a great honor to be thought off through other people.

i laugh so hard at it. i got my own style though and nobody else is me and I'm nobody else, however for amusement it sho feels good.
