what I loved about "All In The Same Gang" was how they included cats you wouldn't expect. Hammer on the same track with Eazy-E and NWA, who openly dissed him? Young MC, Tone Loc?

but the best part of that record was the Digital Underground part. They changed the beat so it sounded like "Humpty Dance".

I just learned this last year and felt so confused. I just couldn't understand why i'd gone this many years thinking he was from LA.

I bet him being on this song and also being down with Tone Loc had alot to do with it I guess.


But yeah, these joints were massive and it's dope how it all flowed from artist to artist with no hiccups.


Its funny how over the years my choice of which is better, (West Coast or East Coast versions) shifts back and forth.

Last time I looked at either of these, Self-Destruction was my fav. but today, Same Gang sounds so much colder.

Yeah. I mean, they both give me a certain kind of feeling that was unique to the time. Rap seemed such an "exclusive" club of sorts... and it was shitted on, even as the music started to become more sophisticated. Unencumbered by (much) industry pressure, they just stood and delivered.

there's still SOME of that, but there's a missing element

They were an LA based label, and their other prominent aritst, Def Jef, was also on the track. And like you said, there was the Tone Loc connection. Growing up I always thought of Young MC is an LA artist, when he's pretty clearly not.
