"What does everyone think of Kanye West's new stuff?"

Personally, I am not feeling his new 'trap' music direction, what do people think?

I'm listening to Quality by Kweli right now and remembering how great Kanye was when he kept it simple. Good To You is awesome. Listened to Encore yesterday as well. Those tracks had feeling to them. Guess Who's Back, etc. Just hit so much harder.

This new shit just sounds pretentious, lacks feeling, and I can't get with it. Just a personal preference of course but his most recent material, most of his work since Graduation actually (which I loved) has been very hit or miss (mostly miss) to me. I can't listen to Watch the Throne at all.

Yeah, I much preferred his more orchestral, soulful sound. He seems to not enjoy producing his own beats as much anymore as well which I think is quite a big reason for it!

"Unlistenable" is an exaggeration but CD works is one of his least impressive album. You see the beginnings of what would make 'Ye so interesting later on but I rarely play it anymore save for a few songs.

I liked WTT way more than I liked My Beautiful Dark Twisted Porcelain Toilet.

It wasn't a bad album, but I felt somewhat detached from the Kanye experience for the first time in a while. I don't know what it was -- maybe the beats. But I even felt 808s more than that... minus some cheese here and there, it sounded way more heartfelt. I'll go back to it someday, I suppose.

Now WTT was a fun album but Kanye wasn't "producing". However, 88 Keys and folks gave Kanye beats that sounded like his style, and of course Jay-Z was there along for the ride which made it seem just alright. If you think of it as a sendup of the nonsense we had in the decade prior, including their (Jay's) own work.... it really works.

I doubt Kanye is 'producing' any of these recent beats, the last beat he probably sat down and made from start to finish with no help was probably something on Graduation or Late Registration lol (Minus otis, cause Young Guru said he purposely challenged Kanye to make a beat start to finish with no help, and Otis was the track he made)
As far as lyrically i feel he is a better rapper as far as skill, formation, and technique go, But post-Graduation Kanye to me has nothing to say. He hasn't said anything close to profound or insightful since Late Registration and/or a few songs on Graduation. But that's just my opinion.

and I mean, it sounds a lot more like "old" Kanye than... 808's. Graduation was weak with some exceptions.

His voice has completely worn itself out on my ears. Much like Jay's.
