"what if there was some kind of IQ test requirement to discuss music?" Sat Apr-14-12 01:26 PM by david bammer
like not necessarily testing IQ on music theory because i, myself, mostly "go by ear" rather than what's in the books from centuries ago...
but just like a quiz or litmus test on music related things and history of specific genres relevant to the 20th/21st century.
i sent dan a PM about instituting this here. picture this: the forum is boarded off from the rest of the site and all accounts wishing to participate in further in-depth musical discourse have to apply and pass a 150 question music "IQ" test in order to gain admission... i even said i would grade the results for them myself. haven't heard back, but imagine the curriculum covered...
problem solving questions:
if john has 14 chamillionaire mp3s from his new mixtape in a folder on his desktop but the .m3u file says he should have 17, identify which tracks are missing from the rip.

2. "alternatively, what if the lesson instituted a interview stage?" In response to Reply # 0 Sat Apr-14-12 01:49 PM by david bammer
like you apply for a position in the lesson with a résumé and cover letter... reg, dan and myself mull over your qualifications and if we deem you a suitable candidate we contact you and arrange an interview over skype.
the questions range from: what in your mind constitutes a good thread? to what is your biggest musical guilty pleasure?
from there, we ask for 3 references or emails of recommendation from mods of lesson competitors. and if you are deemed a "right fit" for the position available we contact you before the last business day of the week the interview was conducted in with a okayplayer company passkey for access.

Yeah, I enjoy stimulating conversation as much as the next guy, but this is some borderline elitist shit. Especially you deciding you get to be the gatekeeper because, with all due respect, who the fuck are you (or anyone for that matter) to do it?
