"Damn, Rakim likes Kanye more than Jay-Z"

". Unlike the president, Rakim says he prefers Kanye to Jay-Z"

http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2012/05/american-mozart/8931/3/

Rest of the article is typical Atlantic garbation, but outside of the out of touch nyc liberal-ese are some gems.

I'm not saying I prefer Jay to Rakim, personally, but if you're once considered great and then looked over for a time, it has to make you feel some kind of way.

when his last album came out. I remember he criticized Nas for making "U.B.R." b/c he's not done as an artist, he doesn't want his personal life out there (I guess wikipedia is on notice as well) and the fact he didn't talk to him before or after. This was after he did a MTV interview with Nas thanking him for making the song and showing respect lol

Rakim no that career, song and albums Jay-z is superior to Kanye and looked at as the Biggest Rapper ever...that could produce a little envy to the God.

You can tell, just based off how salty he was over Nas doing a tribute track dedicated to him lol.

Probably stems from the fact that Nas was lauded as the "Next Rakim", which has to hurt when you're not even retired yet.

I know not everyone loved the last 2 Eric B & Rakim albums but he was far from fallen off at that point. Imagine how Phonte or Black Milk would feel if "The next..." them came out today according to fans and the media? They'd feel shitted on for no reason

I imagine he's salty about both Jay and Nas, but more so Jay because the average listener puts him in the GOAT conversation more often.

none of y'all are rakim's therapist.

hell, i like kanye more than jay at this point and i don't have a f--king legacy, so now where are your psychological theories at? lmao!

if you wanted to come up with an angle, the more obvious angle is kanye is more willing to work with his predecessors than jay is...hell, ye just signed q-tip. if you're going to make a political move, make it towards the guy who might be willing to slide you some beats or really shock the world and sign you. jay sure wouldn't do that, but ye might.
