Can't remember exactly how it went. I think I can piece together a top five:

1. Pass the Plugs
2. Say No Go
3. Bitties in the BK Lounge
4. Living in a Full-Time Era (L.I.F.E.)
5. Three Days Later

After that, in no order:

Long Island Degrees
Pease Porridge
Keepin the Faith
D.A.I.S.Y. Age
I Am, I Be

Eye Know -My #1 All time Fav. Dela Joint.
Much More -This is more about Dilla than Dela
Itzsoweezee -Made Trugoy one of my Fav. Rappers over all.
Pony Ride -2 words- Truth Enola.
Church -This is more about 9th than Dela
Dog Eat Dog -Really loved the chorus
Jenifa Taught Me - he said "went to her house/aroused my joust/Jenifa oh Jenny"
Oodles of O's - Really dug the beat.
Afro Connections at Hi Five - Really dug the beat and rhyme patterns.
Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa - Really dug the message
Ring Ring Ring - Rocked this song on stage with them and sang the hook+last verse! My greatest hip hop memory ever!
Big Brother Beat -This is all about Mos Def style fresh like baby's breath.
Stakes is High -Because the vid. featured Q-Tip say "The Native Tongues Have Officially Been Reinstated.
Bionix -The beat is crazy
Trying People -Love the verses/message.

peace

Right? R-Tistic gave me freedom to list 30 above and I'm hesitant to even attempt that. Just no chance I don't leave something off I'd be pissed at myself about.

I CAN say, though, that Eye Know is in the top 3, I think...probably. That's the best I can do.

I was thinking about the AOIs earlier this week. Though I agree that they probably both could've used like...3 or maybe 4 less tracks, what I like about them is that I feel like Mosaic Thump has a "summer" vibe to it, while Bionix has an obvious "winter" feel to it. It's like they made them for me to listen to during each of those seasons. I can't really explain it outside of that but I still love each of them for different reasons.

The amount that they DO have is incredibly impressive, so even having "very good" albums this late in their career is saying something as well.

But here's my tentative, 3 minute list:

Pass the Plugs (this shit is just tooo dope. Even Paul's little bars are classic)
I Am, I Be (Some of Pos' best work)
Oodles of O's
Pease Porridge
Brakes
Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)
Breakadawn
Eye Know
Sunshine
Stakes Is High

No order. But Pass The Plugs/I Am, I Be are generally my top 2

1. Pass the Plugs (my all time fav from De La)
2. A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays (probably have listened to this song more than any other De La song)

The rest in no particular order:
Ego Trippin Part 2
I Am I Be
Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa
Stakes is High
Eye Know
Ring Ring Ring
Me, Myself, and I
Rock Cocaine Flow
All Good?

Oops, that was 11, but I could put another 11 here that would be equal in quality...

1. "Me, Myself & I" (Video/Radio Mix)
2. "Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)" (Album Mix)
3. "Say No Go" (Album Mix -- there's an ill remix of this that misses the cut)
4. "A Rollerskating Jam Called Saturdays"
5. "Keepin' The Faith"
6. "Stakes Is High"
7. "Breakadawn"
8. "The Future"
9. "View"
10. "Ain't Hip To Be Labeled A Hippie" (good looks, c71)

this list could spiral well into 20-25 tracks, when I really scour their catalog. some notes:

2, 4, 5 - pretty much shows the dominance of De La Soul Is Dead on this list... 10 basically belongs to 3 Ft. High and Rising's ouevre, but it's a B-Side not too many people heard unless they got the remaster from the 2000s. DLSID had the most fun(ky) songs as a collection over their whole catalog... I dig that they went less on the motif that dominated their first record (which probably got them that "hippies" tag as much as their fashion style) and picked up on the vibe of "Say No Go" and "Me Myself and I" which I thought was really what made De La Soul go.

2 - I always found it annoying that De La's first videos/songs released for an album had "refined" versus what was on the album. #1 listed above was WAAAAAAAAY better than the album version, since Mase let the Funkadelic record ride longer on the hook instead of Transformer-ing it every other number of bars. In the case of "Ring Ring Ring"... I liked the simple Whatnauts/Impeach The President mashup rather than the drowned-out video version.

8 - opener to THE GRIND DATE that reminded me a lot of the stuff from the AOI records, but they really turned it up on the swing tip...the Switch vocals were pretty wild, that made you feel like the sun was about to rise before your eyes.

9 - not a single (to my knowledge) but it was a great showcase for Posdnous to get loose.

also, I think De La really never had a WACK single. they usually were a good draw to the album, even Bionix, which was their first album to get the pans. I could have just been lazy and listed up their singles or 12" versions of those.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

The Future is just about my favorite post-2000 De La track. The way the beat creeps in, both verses are excellent, the beat is fire but subtle enough to let them both ride it.

Love that track. Saw a De La show around the time Grind Date was released and they opened with it. Was a great opener.

That track is amazing. "Man, the flag was lowered, so my wood was raised/followed by shieldin' of my buildin' to protect me from the blaze..."

So good. Great sample usage.
