Snoop as a whole.

Technical skills to me aren't solely lyrical abilities...so flowwise, delivery, voice, Snoop ran that lane. I'd even argue that Snoop was a better storyteller...Kurupt didn't really have stories. Kurupt had good content on tracks like "I don't like to dream about gettin paid" but a lot of his best verses were about "nothing" but him just spittin his ass off on some freestyle shit.

But even though we knock Snoop for his freestyles not being about shit....the way he stays in pocket and is still captivating is amazing. He can say his name 15 times in a freestyle, but you'll still nod your head...so his flow is almost like a drum or DJ scratching solo, you're just listening for the patterns more so than the lyrics. But then he'll throw personality in there too to where you're really paying attention.

Snoop wins albums, Kurupt (IMO) has a slight edge lyrically but Snoop is no slouch.

Kurupt in his prime tho? One of the best ever IMO and no one could fuck with him.

I am a HUGE Kurupt fan, specifically his older stuff, so I could talk about this topic all day. I'm actually pretty excited about this thread and I hope it takes off.

I mean, even in his early years when he was a beast, he had a habit of just spitting insanely fast, senseless rambling; but when he wanted to he could also spit a cohesive, full verse. Both were extremely enjoyable to listen to. He just flowed so well.

Then suddenly, he just started rhyming "bitch" with "bitch" and "dick" with "shit" and sounded like he wasn't even TRYING anymore. It just didn't make any sense. He was so potent early on. "Tragic how the mic gets handled/prodigious like a vandal on a midnight scandal/and scramble like Randall abusive when I recite..." I mean, christ. Doggz Day Afternoon alone he put on an absolute lyrical clinic.

But yea I agree on BlaQKout. Kurupt sounded better than he has for the majority of recent years, but like you said he sounded very subdued and just ... not comfortable like he used to be over any beat.

Twas probably a financial decision (I think I remember hearing him talk about being broke 106 and Park a while back).

The change in style was pretty strange. I'm a fan of his Xxplosive verse but freely admit rhyming "bitch" with "bitch" might not be the greatest example of his talent.

I know Kendrick Lamar has mentioned Kurupt is a huge influence. Him working with some of those TDE in-house producers might not be a bad look for him.

I remember that as well. It was a weird decision (besides the financial implications) because just like a year earlier he had been all over Suge/Death Row about the whole Snoop thing and thanking Master P for "taking care of boy".

And yea ... I like the Xxplosive verse as well, that song is amazing overall and Kurupt's verse fits into the gangsta aspect of it. So don't get me wrong. It's just that around that time he was doing that type of rhyme ALL the time, and not just when it fit the song. That was annoying.

After Streetz is a Mutha (underrated classic) I kind of tuned him out and it seem like he was coasting.

But overall Snoop gets it.

Just listened to it a few weeks ago actually. Lot of good beats on that album, couple good posse cuts. Kurupt ripped it. Last time I remember being amazed by his potency. Trylogy comes to mind.

If I remember right, I think it was released THE SAME DAY too!...

I remember at the time Kurput wasn't sweating it though, cuz he was on alot of 2001 so it was like, "We on the same team so it's whatever."

make a real debate poll with Snoop versus Ice Cube or Snoop versus Too Short make it a real battle.

Snoop will win easly just on the fact he was associated with a Musical movement and his voice was on two of the most important Hip hop albums over the past 20 years plus the songs.

Snoop got Money cuts. and a voice that hit like Syrup

You can't be serious about this!
Snoop Dogg vs. Kurupt, I feel that Snoop Dogg wrote all his lyrics!
But then again I feel that Snoop dogg is SOOO trash now, so does it really matter anyway.
