I'll say this in any convo about Luda; him being a personality on ATL radio that I heard grow from an intern to what he is now, he feels like a close friend. But, to be honest with that friend, his album cuts never compared to his features. By now, he's got so much other shit on deck, he probably doesn't care. He and Tip were in the same boat until the mixtape series after Trap Muzik & the Urban Legend album. They'll other still "Renegade" you, but I don't ever see Luda killing shit, album-wise.

when Luda came out, he was lyrically ILL...regardless of shallow subject matter, he was mad creative with it.

now he's just loud, and seems to think saying certain words loudly replaces being clever.

"The Southern Redman", he's got joints but not a classic album. At this point I doubt it will ever happen.

album for the hip hop heads. He officially ended his beef with T.I. on it, got 9th Wonder, got Premo, got Nas Common AND Jay-z, he had radio-friendly singles but kept rapping. He seemed focused but for whatever reason the singles didn't hit and the heads didn't rep it.

made a lot of money.
his first album is a 'southern club classic'
he doesn't have much else to do

You would have never convinced me that he'd outlast Kast from that point forward, I thought he'd maybe get to a 3rd album or 4th at best.

He's got a few joints, some strong features, a few other assorted moments (I never bought the Redman thing, he was always more Busta to me but not as good......demonstrative/cartoony-in-presentation, memorable guest spots, singles but not really albums most care about despite them selling ok).

Overall he's got nothing to be ashamed of but he's a 2nd or 3rd tier guy.

don't get me wrong, it was a good show, a step up in production values from the Aquemini Tour for sure.

We were right up front, stage side right as Andre was holding court in some bug glasses, a neon green wig & some kind of space costume.

But they had a bassist & guitarist up there that I'm not even sure if they were plugged in.

They still rocked it because they're Kast & look at the catalog they had to choose from at that point plus the charisma onstage (Sleepy present as well).

They even pulled out 'Hootie Hoo' as maybe the last song or second to last song before the encore just as a litmus test to see who was a MsJackson-era fan, Big Boi actually sounded pissed off that people in that crowd (Patriot Center at George Mason U in VA) weren't losing their minds on that one.

Andre was more amused than anything plus our side was actually live, right after Big's scolding Dre just looked over at Big with a smile then looked down at us before he held his mic out to where we were in time for me & my man to shout into the mic 'tight like hallways, smoked out alwaaays' on cue.

But I remember thinking that they had yet to really fully live up to the enormous potential of their live presentation & incorporate instruments as naturally as they did on records.

Little did we both know.........that was it.

...tryin to please the masses is a losing battle for him....he made dope albums, but not any classic ones....he's made intropective albums, creative albums, and vain albums and gotten mixed reactions on all three fronts....

...i think he should keep killin the guest spots and make his kind of music, meanwhile gettin it in on the film/tv front, and move on....he was easily one of the baddest around for a few years, and then that sorta waned, interestingly after he cut his hair....anyway, he should be happy with what he's done musically and KIM

Luda and just like them, they make the cut of stuff that is strictly a cut or cool in the club.

but on a whole its loud, blarring adn jarring.

Luda got a few cuts and spread himself nicely into other fields of Entertainment and it worked.

but he was never cut out to be no savior or Hall of Fame type of act.

however with some catchy cuts and the right passenger side cuts he gets over way more than he probably should, however it ain't his fault the era and time he is in makes alot of cats seem more to there game than the reality.

He had commercial radio hits that got played at clubs, but not many that became staples at all. "Move bitch" might be biggest, and I'm sure "Pussy poppin" got hella play at strip clubs.

However, his new shit "Do somethin strange" is completely being slept on....that shit is a BAAAANGER to me, and he's funny as hell on it. And Ross comes on being a fat ass talkin about Wing Stop

red light district, release therapy, and theater of the mind should have been the ones. If you want to, you can find corniness in those titles. Honestly, any one of his albums should have been the one, but it's crazy that a funny punchline rapper doesn't have one album considered a classic.

I honestly think Battle of The Sexes was his first all out gimmicky go for the singles album.

...and I think that mindset has hampered him

the refusal to dig deep because it wont sell says alot about his approach to music, and I think lack of personality (not charisma) is keeping his lyrics from reaching their height.

its like waiting for Jay to "be lyrically Talib Kweli"........but the money is still the motivation

Well, on the second half, he tried to get introspective. One of the singles from that side, "Runaway Love" (featuring Mary J. Blige, produced by Polow da Don) was actually a big hit.

I agree, he doesn't dig deep. But like you said, as with the Camel, he's about a hit. Not a classic. Hence why he's sold mad records that most people can't remember the year after they were released.

being personal usually doesn't make for great sales.

but it helps make a record timeless

and I don't necessarily mean personal like mom, wife, kids, childhood - but just really putting whats on your mind into the art

his 'full potential' was never to be a poet or deep artist...i dont think he ever even showed flashes of that being possible. his potential was to rap rhythmically amazing shit on quirky/bouncy beats. most all of his songs produced by timbaland or the neptunes, and most of his guest appearances are perfect

Even a song like "Diamond In The Back" which had some depth and soul to it pales in comparison to stuff like "Southern Hospitality", "Whats Your Fantasy," "The Potion", "How Low", etc.

He should have just been part of a group with Timbaland, Missy, and Ciara or something like that and not even tried to continue making solo albums after the 2nd or 3rd one.

his own music.

And the thing is, I think he tries, but just CAN'T make the music and albums that he wants to.

Bad thing about it is that he can literally make any type of Rap that he wants and it'll sound dope and not forced. We've heard him on Premo Boom Bap, DJ Quik styled West Coast, Drumma Boy strip club music, Neptunes prime songs, Timbaland prime songs, Laid back southern soulful tracks, Beat boxed 80's styled tracks, Crunk tracks, Upbeat ass shakers, etc etc etc etc etc etc ETC ETC ETC.....like there's literally not a style from last decade that he couldn't rip. Yet, he still doesn't have a whole lot of memorable singles, and doesn't have a single album that's GREAT. They're all the same decent-good to me...none are wack, but none make you say "ayyyy put on that Luda album from 05....or the 03 one, they're both classic."

Luda made club bangers that were full of jokes... what exactly did fans expect him to do/be?
