i have been replaying the loop over and over in my head tryna figure out where i'd heard it recently, i guess this is it, BUT...does anyone remember this loop being used as an intro to some mixtape or beattape or something, maybe w/ some dilla vocal samples over top of it? i'm probably tripping

He tried too hard to make this something deep and cerebral, when it is just a plain old track. He should've just went in and rhyme his behind off.

And there's gotta be another verse or some ad-libbing, just seems lame to let the beat just hang there for that long when that sample has already been done

guess we're now up to a full 60 seconds of rapping in a five-minute unmixed song.

I gotta admit, Jay Sa Da Tay's career is actually fun to watch in a real-life Pooty Tang way.

I never noticed how the start of the verse on here sounds like Biz's opening bars on 'Just A Friend' before.

"Have you ever met a rapper you were told was great but the year to drop an album he wanted you to wait, lemme tell you a story bout a situation, the slowest-moving MC in the U.S. nation."

But I am left scratching my head every time I

Weird, a lot of his fans don't like Lupe.

Lupe is like the talented, younger version of
this nigga

if Lupe released this, the Lesson would lynch him.

On the flip side (as you and I have discussed before if I remember correctly)

if Jay E released Friend of The People the internet would literally shut down...

I don't get it.

If Jay E had done American Terrorist 3 or whatever it was called people would still be analyzing that sh*t.

Or if he had rapped over A Love Supreme. Etc Etc.

That being said...I like this song. Definitely not one of his best, but

this dude really is lazy as sh!t. How old is this song?

i actually liked the verse in an album intro sort of way.
nothing overwhelming, but it was fine.
and of course we know the instru is dope.
but lol @ this guy.
the track is obviously incomplete.
i chuckled when the loop came back and there were no rhymes on it.

i cant imagine still being REALLY excited over him.

what do you want from the guy?

I ask this not to berate nor defend the Jay Electronica; I'm just really curious about what exactly it is people want him to do. I constantly see a lot of angry posts on here from people about him and, other than failing to release ACT II on a few declared dates, I haven't heard one other promise that Jay Electronica has broken. I honestly don't get it.

What is it that so many of you want Jay Electronica to do?

now, if he was my employee, maybe i'd have a bone to pick.. but mofos have like 60 free tracks (that they presumably really enjoy) in their library from this guy.. they're mad because they didn't get them in the format that they're used to and because they didn't have a price tag (even though they'd ultimately just steal it)..

i just don't get it.. i mean, i'd like a proper jay elec album/mixtape/project as much as the next guy.. but it's like getting mad at a short story author for not writing a novel.. or acting as if you paid money for a pre-order and then never got anything..

EXACTLY. Plenty of free music with verses I'd argue that are better than most rappers whole albums lyrically. And, Jay E has shown time and again that he's going on- for the most part- an unconventional, experimental route with his music; yet people still complain that his songs aren't three verses with a hook. I think some people's ideals of his career path and output are masking who Jay E. has show himself to be.

Similar to what you said, Jay E is a poet and people want him to be a novelist. Two completely different creators.

was an amazing era in hip hop.
i'd love to see a thorough expose on it with interviews from all sides now that time has passed.

same here. I wonder if he hired family members or friends to do that shit. I remember him kinda flat out admitting that he wasn't at all of his shows. Saying something like fans pay to come experience the music live and it doesn't matter who's on the stage and cats here were still giving him a pass. I wish I could find that post. One of the best ones ever.

I still think it was a dope idea... especially if he had like 3 or 4 shows in different parts of the world on the same night.
