A little back story to this mix. A friend of mine got at me recently, he'd taken on an "indie" night but doesn't have a huge selection tune wise so asked could I help him out. So anyways 15 hours worth of tracks later I really began to reminisce about similar nights I used to go to, back in the day, late 80's early 90's. We had a lot of fun in those clubs. The good DJ's always played an eclectic mix of old new and would often throw in the odd surprise genre wise to keep the people on their toes. So with all this music gathered in one place it seemed rude not to put a mix together myself. A little different from what my usual listeners are used to but hopefully you'll enjoy my little trip down memory lane

yeah, i just saw dj shadow live for the first time a week ago, and i've been listening to a bit of '80s and '90s indie/alternative lately as well

i haven't checked any of his recent stuff

i'm a fan of his last couple albums (especially the much-maligned 'the outsider,' actually), but pretty much anything you'd want to hear from shadow he played in some form, however different from the released version. it was an enjoyable and interesting show and managed to live up to 15 years of expectations.

I saw him in either 2002/03 and it wasn't so great. The last time he'd played Manchester some journo gave him a bad review and he kept banging on about it all night. Plus i was the designated driver, so all my friends had a drink or a smoke and his choice of set didn't really sit well with being stood up the whole time ya know ? Had i been on a comfy couch smoking a fat one it would've been a different scenario

Also RJD2 opened for him, and kind of blew him away really which I didn't expect

he was pretty talky but positive and humble, so that was cool...

yeah, i was kinda surprised by the (tuesday night) crowd, i didn't see anyone smoking, but a lot of people had a beer or two in hand, there were some drunk jailbait mingling with strangers, and halfway through the show some ravers threw down... like i said, it was interesting, and people had a good time

it was quite a mixed crowd when we went to see them, the indie lot had jumped on the bandwagon because of the collaborations with Ian Brown and Richard Ashcroft with the UNKLE thing, all doing their best Liam Gallagher impression to Lonely Soul

don't know them will have to check them out. He was also supported by local band Fingathing, at the time it was just one dude on decks and the other playing double bass, I didnt like their records but they were amazing live
