"fat luther v. donny hathaway for the technical male singer crown"

i mean...we know donny was amazing

but...i reallly REALLLY think luther might have to win this one champ

i mean we all know the ACTUAL greatest male soul singer OAT is al green

but this is more...technically speaking. who can best & most effortlessly hit them runs

theres really no other viable alternatives

i love marvin too but sorry...he's not technically on the level of a luther OR a donny (& emotively not on the level of a Al but we'll leave that alone for another day)

what sayeth thou

Donny had power, smoothness and perfect tone and pitch. Don't get me
wrong Luther can sang and had the lil smoothness for the ladies on lock.
But if you listen to Donny's entire catalog and really understand what
he was doing vocally, there's no way Luther can touch that man's vocals.
Donny is one of the most naturally and technically gifted singers to ever
do it. Luther simply had the ladies crooner gimmick. Donny never had
ONE piece of smoke or mirror with his shit.

um we're not talking about freddie jackson, we're talking about LUTHER. you probably need to go back & take your own advice wrt donnie and apply it to luther.

I know who we talkin about and he ain't seein no Donny in no respect. I
done acknowledged the man could sang. However he had his thing and stuck
to it in his comfort zone. Nailing a Donny song the way Donny sang it is
100x harder than singing a song by Luther because Luther always stayed in that
vocal comfort zone.

Donny has the better & more interesting voice -- a nice earthiness

But I know and like Luther's songs better because I grew up on him and Donny's peak is a few years before my time.

if i had to pick One Male singer as the Greatest male Soul Singer ever and that is so tough WHEW WEE but give me the Kid Era of Michael Joe Jackson.

nobody has ethered other kids and grown folks as MJ did as a kid.

"who's loving you" alone and that JB audtion alone and for me anything he did from 69-80 was SOUL period

Marvin is a vocal Genius IMO.

you got Al Green, Donny hathaway, Jackie Wilson for my money is so slept on. I still ain't heard nobody wail like him and bust a split and still have the poweder on his face in place and a hanky too boot.

Freddie Jackson is the truth as well one of the Greatest Male singers Ever period.

Bobby Womack as well.

Barry White.

but Fat and the Jerri Curl that didn't fully flip over Luther was the Business

mistermaxxx R.Kelly, Michael Jackson,Stevie wonder,Rick James,Marvin Gaye,El Debarge, Barry WHite Lionel RIchie,Isleys EWF,Lady T.,Kid creole and coconuts,the crusaders,kc sunshine band,bee gees,jW,sd,NE,JB

Miami Heat, New York Yankees, buffalo bills

Donny Hathaway surpasses Luther Vandross. Donny is more on the same level as Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. Listen to Donny's best:
"A Song for You," "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know," "Thank You Master for My Soul," "Little Ghetto Boy," "For All We Know," "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother." There is no comparison for the richness in the tone of Donny's voice.
