"Have we discussed the potential of zeroh/blqbrd yet?"

Man this kid can rhyme. Comes off as a cross between Andre 3000 and Tyler. And he's rhyming over beats most emcees wouldn't even try to tackle (some of the more lo-fi beat scene figures: mndsgn, juj, etc.)

His soundcloud looks like it's defunct, but his tumblr has some songs. I can't stop listening to natportman.

http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/blqbrd

Homeboy Sandman, Blu and Open Mike Eagle fans cannot be unaware of this dude, right? I couldn't find any posts, except for the cryptic reference in Shabazz Palaces post that originally made me search out his music.

I check for: Serengeti, Zeroh, Open Mike Eagle, Jeremiah Jae, Moka Only.

"My,Yert (0.)" on Mndsgn's Daypass release is what made me first pay attention to him
after already seeing his name around for a while

he's got a lot of talented cats in his corner... KenBts./The Log.O's, Jonwayne, etc.
so i'm really looking fwd to whatever's next for him

Production is bueno. But outside of a few songs, I just can't get into his rapping. Which is too bad because that scene needs all the emcees it can get.

the beat heads in the low end theory scene are actually very nice-personable people. say if you go to the airliner on a wensday night, they will be cool with you if you approach them, BUT their ideas about their music are pretentious. they think they're modern jazz musicians. most feel there aren't enough talented rappers to rock over their shit. personally i would prefer singers to be placed over their sounds, but when done right, rappers can excel too. once they get over this, the music can flourish, more than it has, IMO

i love his free-form / free-concept style and has a great tone/voice. a nice addend to the lineage of the good life/project blowed style/craft.

coincidentally, the music is actually very hit or miss. he suffers from i'm esoteric/deep (all of us suffer from this at 21) and abstractions is the best way to explore this syndrome.

so far i really love "FKIT", "emporer jones" and "i was sad (old cryptic shit)" and the a cut heard with jonwayne from his growing but scattered catalogue

i can understand why people have difficulty with #thissite... and as for social listening, it streams mp3 files, so if your connection isn't strong enough for that, then it will never work for you, but otherwise it isn't graphics intensive in the least

Only thing I'm not about: his singing voice can get grating when he really starts caterwauling. But this release actually reflects the sound I'm most drawn to right now.

I think my main reservation is that I generally like him a song or two at a time. It might be a challenge to get an album that can be digested and enjoyed in one sitting.

When I first found out about him I downloaded everything I could and burnt it to disc. To my surprise, I never listen to that all Zeroh playlist, but try to squeeze a song into almost every mix I make.

Wait, so does anyone have a full list of projects and/or links?

Google hasn't been that much help...

I tracked down AwfulAlterations and More Throwaways....

and plan to get Tape or whatever

BUT

I can't find a working G7 link...?

Also, is there more than this? What's Natportman on?

natportman is on the Mndsgn album Exts. There's just the one zeroh track but the whole beat tape is really good.

Bark Pench is on the Super Feelers compilation.

He has a few collab tracks on the Jonwayne mixtape This Is False

I have a cut called Resolutionary and I have no idea where it came from.

That's all I know.

more of the same: ONE GOOD/GREAT song sandwiched within a lot of aimless, "esoteric" noise and rambling (this time with some humming and singing)

some one should sit this dude down and have him rap his ass off over ten great beats

I liked it. Any idea what Zeroh was doing? I assume that he and ashtre did the beat and the third guy was playing, or was there more than one live element?

Kind of reminds me of what I thought jazz would sound like based off hip hop samples. Then I started listening and realized that usually rap producers were focusing on very isolated atypical elements of jazz songs.

If you know who those people are you are probably excited. But it's an instrumental drone electronic type of piece, so don't get too excited. But interesting for what it is:

http://www.freshselects.net/samegheng-source-zeroh-ashtrejinkins

Also apparently he has a group with Jeremiah Jae called Holy Smoke. They have a great track on the Road Kill 3 compilation.

every once in a while the lesson will hip me to somebody right up my alley so thank you for this one.

i haven't been this excited about an emcee for a while. he's kind of like a hybrid of jay electronica and blu, two of my favorite rappers. hopefully his career goes on a different path. i prefer his rapping but the more ambient music he puts out shows a lot of range. definitely a very unique artist with an already impressive catalog that you should keep your eye on.

don't sleep on zeroh, and once again thank you lesson for the recommendation. gems like these are the reason i check out this forum.
