"Has a Hip Hop song ever made you CRY? Serious Post..(revisit)"
Mon Mar-19-12 10:30 AM by Thanes1975

Has a Hip Hop song ever mad you CRY? Serious Post..No BS. Hip Hop can bring different emotions and some of the stories many of us have lived through for real. On the real, has there ever been a song that made you tear up a little because of the realness? I mean, other genres of music have done this to millions of people but Hip Hop is not exception to these rules in my eyes. (I did this years ago on here and it was very interesting)

Me...

Joe Budden "The World Keep Spinnin" ...a verse about his grandmother was exactly what happended to my grandmother (like Kanye "Roses") and I was heading to ATL and I cant front, a tear did fall as I lived this song for real just a year before it dropped.

there's one particular album that helped me get through a very rough time..
i was young lived life like there was no tomorrow and was all about girls money clothes..
in the end i got set back with some MAJOR debt struggles.. and i really mean MAJOR.. like *cant sleep at night scared to open up envelopes hoping no bill collector would come at my door and they always did* THAT major..

this particular album was The Foreign Exchange's Connected..
it held the theme songs to my life at that particular time.. everytime i skipped class and got on the train to just.. well.. find myself really i had this cd in my discman(!).. it got me through..

just reminiscing about it makes me feel *that* feeling again..
there always was this one song that gave me hope.. i mean i FELT the whole album..

but Happiness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9e3blKbOvs

man..

that track gave the strength to not give up..
it sounds corny as hell.. but yeah.. The Foreign exchange y'all..

Blame Game from MBDTF ripped me apart not once but twice. It was kind of embarrassing for some reason, but the combination of one of my five favorite Aphex Twin tracks with what was going on in my life and where I was (car parked in driveway, smoking bowl, maybe killing a six pack) I remember just losing it. And the album was on repeat and I'd switched from headphones to the speakers at one point, and when the song came around it happened AGAIN.

Thankfully it didn't keep happening but it was so remarkable to me that my now somewhat-infamous review (whenever I see blog posts about critics being "in a rush to slobber over Kanye", it's guaranteed to appear) of the album mentions it.

Blu- Below the Heavens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnyuqKhiDo8
My favorite song of all time, inspired me more than anything else. Ever.

Tiron- Boys & Girls: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOgWynm6WWY
This song tells the story of the two most life changing relationships I've been in WORD FOR WORD. It's scary how spot on he is for me.

Big KRIT- The Vent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xVEa0SMxFg
This song just carries so much emotion in it that it cuts straight through me.

T.I.- Still Aint Forgave Myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9DAvPMbSmQ
I can feel Tip's emotion, but I just connected with the premise of the song for myself.

Last Emperor- One Life: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO5NsnVX20I
The questioning of life by LE + Poetic rapping about his cancer + Esthero's hook = waterworks

Lupe Fiasco- Beautiful Lasers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NHkv0S1NEA
After going through depression and contemplating suicide, I could relate to the battle he was going through

Got more, but those are the first ones that came to mind

"Hey Mama" is another one that got me, cause I lost my Mom when I was in high school (and we were very, very close) so that one just hit home.

Say what you want about Kanye (I don't really like him anymore) but he has made some shit that hits your soul in his day, no question about it.

It never made me cry but what an INCREDIBLE song that is. One of my favorite songs ever. That beat is fantastic. And Kweli's storytelling is on fucking point.

"Teenage lovers sit on a stoop up in Harlem/holdin hands under the Apollo marquis dreamin of stardom"...that line always gives me chills.

The timing was awful, as I first heard it when my mother was sick in the hospital. She pulled through, but to hear my favorite rapper talking about this was pretty heavy.

In response to Reply # 0
Tue Mar-20-12 12:00 AM by Playa_Politician

Fuck UMG has all youtube videos of this blocked. not sure why, must not like exposure. that shit makes me want to cry that i can't share this jewell wit ya'll

Here's the lyrics:

In the event of my demise
when my heart can beat no more
I hope I die for a princeple
Or a belief that I had lived for
I will die before my time
Beacause I feel the shadow's depth
So much I wanted to acomplish
Before I reached my death
I have come to grips with the possibility
And wiped the last tear from my eyes
I loved all who were positive
In the event of my demise

Young Noble
In the event of my demise don't shed no tear
I'll share my wisdom with the world, they'll know I was here
Know I was real, every thing I said I mean
A outlaw, when I was born they prepared my ditch
Said I won't live long, statistic show
I'm tryna past 24 realistic goal, listen though
You gotta stay cold inside
That's what I tell myself when I feel alone sometimes
But I can't cry, I don't tear no more
I love god, so death I don't fear no more
I partake in this movment to better my people
Though they see me on TV, I tell them we equal
Don't look at me as a stranger, I'm one of your own
We was raised in concrete and grew as a rose
Still I rise, but never get a chance to fly
Mama please don't cry
In the event of my demise

Chorus - Young Noble
In the event of my demise
can't breathe no more
hope I die for a principle
something I lived for
die before my time
feel the shadows of death
Trying to fulfill all my dreams before I reach my death
came to grips with the possibility
The world's killing me, and my soldiers die young with no sympathy
I wipe the last tear from my eyes
I loved all who stayed strong
In the event of my demise

Napoleon
If I should die before I awake
let my family be straight of the money I make
Give my son, what he needs to defend his father
Is it self respect, better yet his honor
when the lord come to swallow my soul, it's so big
Cause the streets took enough of my life, we'll all see
It's a cycle make you feel psycho
Everything struggles behind this man, see nobody love you
Got a piece of the streets and it's gonna die with me
may your, soul forgive me
Makaveli's within me
In principle we stand by stronger than power
We gon' die by the rules you can never devour
On the earth from my birth felt nothing but pain
only thing I ever gave was a baby his name
that's my heart, and if I should go I'll go on in the sparks
that's the event of my demise, and it lurks in the dark

E.D.I amin
Now as I stand here, a man here
Not a perfect one, but a searching one
Seek in another, blazing time
Sound crazy but I'm actually tryin to escape my mind
Tryna erase in time
but hoping that you didn't notice
When i was at my lowest
Although I knew they was watching, I couldn't stop it
So many things I wanted to accomplish
Too many dreams, wasted with no promise
From out the darkness I struggle to see the light
Rumble deep in the night
Hustlin with all of my might here
Some won't see it that way
But us is given praise
But all of them will prayin'
That I did it my way
In the event of my demise

Kastro
I was born to a storm that won't let up
And I was raised to stay brave with my head up
But things ain't got better
We still gettin wetter in this bad weather
I need more than a sweater and a leather
Yo, ain't nothin ment to last forever
So the stuggling and the suffering ain't gon' last forever
And my will, probably be like two lines long
It will read I'm dead but my soul lives on
And my spirit still living though my body is gone
In the event of my demise I love all who stayed strong
I love all who stayed strong
In the event of my demise, com'on

Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel - Where Have You Been
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOdcw-eCIMw

Can't relate a bit, my father was always there. I mean I see the effect on friends and such, but it's not about that for me, just the pure emotion on this track. Especially Beanie Sigel. Made me tear up before for sure. Raw as hell.

When i hear songs about not having a father makes me sad for others who don't, luckily my pops is still around, never left.

A father's advice to his daughter about grwing up on a cold world?

Yeah that resonates on multiple levels.

Lyrics:

You know you're my cookie baby and you're too smart
I can see it in the lines of your school art
True heart
I mean courage
Expressed with care
Go on draw them superheroes with the curly hair
You're my daughter
My love
More than kin to me
This for you and the woman that you finna be
Tell that boy he's wrong
Girls are strong
Next time at show and tell play him our song
Tell your teacher I said princesses are evil
How they got all they money was they killed people
If somebody hits you
Hit 'em back
Then negotiate a peace contract
Life if a challenge and you gotta team up
If you play house pretend that the man clean up
You too busy with the other things you gotta do
If you start something, now
Remember, follow through
Later on you gon' blossom like a lotus
You'll get into boys and the boys gon' notice
It don't matter who you do it with
Just remember when I tell you baby you the shit
Handshakes are promises
Lies can spoil it
Words should be bond and seal
Wash you hands after using the toilet
Brush after every meal
And also

*Chorus*
Wear clean draws
Everyday
'cuz things may fall
The wrong way
You'll be lying there
Waiting' for the ambulance
And your underwear
Got holes and shit

Wear clean draws
Everyday
'cuz things may fall
The wrong way
You'll be lying there
Waiting' for the ambulance
And your underwear
Got holes and shit

Pam can I get a little scratch right here?
(yeeah)
Pam can I get a little scratch right here?
(oh yeah)
Pam can I get a little scratch right here?
(yeeah)
Pam can I get a little scratch right there?

(oh yeah)

My boogie baby now
The world ain't no fairy tale
And it's ran by some rich white scary males
To make it simple for you let's call 'em the bosses
They take money while the people take losses
Stole Black folds from Africa
To work for free
And we still barely get paid enough to eat
That's what I told you
I be saying in my vocals
That's why the woman got the gun on the logo
The star is the future
That we gon' create
Where nobody steal money from the things we make
The revolution takes time and space
But you as a woman gotta know you're place
That's in the front baby
I'm being blunt baby
If the get mad say it's they time of the month baby
Your face is just like the sun when it raises
Thank you for adding beauty to my phrases
Handshakes are promises
Lies can spoil it
Words should be bond and seal
Wash your hands after using the toilet
Brush after every meal
And also

*Chorus*
Wear clean draws
Everyday
'cuz things may fall
The wrong way
You'll be lying there
Waiting' for the ambulance
And your underwear
Got holes and shit

Wear clean draws
Everyday
'cuz things may fall
The wrong way
You'll be lying there
Waiting' for the ambulance
And your underwear
Got holes and shit

Pam can I get a little scratch right here?
(yeeah)
Pam can I get a little scratch right here?
(oh yeah)
Pam can I get a little scratch right here?
(yeeah)
Pam can I get a little scratch right there?
(oh yeah)

Clap yo hands
Clap yo hands
Clap yo hands
Clap yo hands
Clap yo hands
Clap yo hands
