"T3 is the Otis Williams of HipHop"

So the current slum village line-up is T3, Young RJ, and Illa J??? interesting. I was walkin down the street yesterday and noticed a flyer advertising a Slum Village show at the Masquerade this past Tuesday and it had those guys on the picture. I would've checked it out had I known about it earlier. I see T3 is refusing to let the legacy die. I kinda admire that.

I know a lot of people feel that Slum was finished when Dilla left the group. I don't. Much of their post Dilla work showcased some really good material (particularly Slum's 2005 Self-titled album, that shit was bananas.) Never-the-less, i'm not up on this current line-up...

i got a few questions, btw

1)What are your thoughts on Villa Manifesto?

2)Why is Elzhi not in the group anymore???

3) I noticed that on Manifesto, Young RJ more or less took over the producer's seat.
a) Why is Black Milk no longer fuckin with Slum?

b) What caused a rift in the BR Gunna production team? Why did Black Milk and RJ stop working together??

Jordan!

all questions can be answered with 2 words:

Detroit Niggas

R.J. Rice/Barack Ent. (not to parrot Elzhi) just seem hella shady...from a consumer standpoint, I couldn't imagine being signed to that label. It's a shame.

But I thought Villa Manifesto was alright, had some decent cuts.

I don't remember the song title but there's a song on there that Elzhi doesn't get a verse on it...and there's like a 3-4 minute middle eastern hippie jam on the track.

huh?

Elzhi is one of the illest MC's in Detroit... if Barack ain't fucking with him and T3 is the star of their roster that says something really vivid without saying much, don't it?

Ma Dukes ain't fucking with 'em...
Waajeed ain't fucking with 'em...
Black Milk ain't fucking with 'em...
dream hampton ain't fucking with 'em...
Denaun Porter ain't fucking with 'em...

Don't get me wrong, I love T3. SV will always be the ultimate, but they've 1/2 assed themselves out of A WHOLE LOT with their bullschitt.

I don't know the details, but I when I look at T3...I know that's his hustle, I know dude has earned his right to be the leader of SV, but seriously...the price wasn't worth it.
Half the members of the group are dead, and they just chased the coldest rapper in they click out the group?

That schitt is frustrating.

The possibility that someone will at least listen to a new "Slum Village" record or that a promoter will book a "Slum Village" show is much greater.

T3 is criminally underrated as an MC. He makes arguably better music than Elzhi too.

Elzhi is the superior M.C./Lyricist between the two...

T3 has BEEN on some dope ass albums...but naw fella. No.

Elzhi is like a Posdnous/Nas hybrid.

I got nothing against T3 and RJ (they work well together) but the gameplan/politics with that label is clearly fucked up and T3 is loyal to Barack Ent.

T3's latest mixtape 3illa madness is as as good as what Elzhi is doing.

1. Dilla was technically the best mc in the (original) lineup. Underrated flow, cadence, had sick wordplay..He made those beats..so who else in the group would of flowed better over them?!?!

2. T3 was the worst one in SV..not wack but he was technically the most unappearling in the group. Unlike Baatin who had some often corny lines..Baatin had a way of being humorous or saying some shit that made you say "damn...lol did that nigga really say that shit?!?!"

3. Baatin was second best off originality and entertainment value alone, his wordplay and hilarious kept you engaged and he has never gotten his due for his contributions especially early slum shit. The first jam on the fantastic tape, dude said

4. Elzhi...incredible mc, loved his mixtapes, and various cuts etc..but lets be honest in the mold of SV's style he was different and at times I feel didnt quite fit the mold..but he rocked over them beats nevertheless

I won't argue with you about Dilla being the best overall mc in the group.

And to me T3 vs Baatin is a toss-up.

But, at the end of the day, it was always my belief that the three emcee's were a perfect compliment to each other; and they all brought something different and valuable over Dilla's laid back, off-kilter beats. But to totally knock off T3's contribution, to me, is lightweight incriminating, and I have to defend him, b/c even tho I always recognized Jay Dee was the best emcee in the group, T3 was my favorite.

And it has everything to do with his flow; he was never really saying anything, but it was all in how he said it, and the words he used, that seemed to fall smoothly, but impactfully off that beat -- sorta like a smooth drink you don't recognize on the way down, but has that wonderful aftertaste you notice only after the fact. Particularly, listen to his freestyle-esque flow on Go Ladies, his eponymously titled song on Fantastic Vol. 1, or the way he goes off on the 5 Ela remix.

But to be honest tho, after fantastic vol 2, I wasn't really checkin' him after he actually started rapping about stuff, instead of talkin pure nonsense. I miss his flow.

the things that you think of as characteristically "Slum"? that's generally T3. the whole off-beat stylistic thing that Common aped on Like Water for Chocolate, for instance? that's that nigga RL.

i think you're downplaying his contribution a lot.

T-3 made a decision to invest himself in Barak/Rices, but he lost the support of the fans and is trying to salvage the legacy. The original decision was to end Slum after Villa Manifesto....The fans are aware that the only way were going to hear that "wheeling, dealing...cash flow..." type shit is to go back and listen to our Jay Dee/SV era albums & loosies.

....Actually, instead of releasing some half assed v.3, why dont they release those SV archives with:

the joint with Vinia Monjica
Full version of sensation
cleaned up versions of all the unreleased stuff we've heard.
etc

T's Olio was after Black left BR Gunna; if you remember, Black did the whole joint except for one track. T-3 wasn't happy with Barak for a long time, Slum (T-3 & Elzhi) did feels so good & bootleggin my shit with Black, but they chose to stick with Barak after that. Something must've happened with paper work, and T-3 was convinced to stay (speculation). I remember seeing those manifesto youtube sessions and thinking something was up with El. I mean, hes been rolling with his own management since Europass (at least).

- Barak has ALWAYS been shady to the fans, Phat Kat, Dilla & Baatin all had issues with them (Kat & Tin publicly; Dilla was more so word of mouth.)

just my two cents....
