> >>Jay fans blow their wad off of materialistic shit like >record >>sales, Beyonce, impact, Jay's bank account while Nas' fans >>look more towards his skills on the mic. > >That's not true. > >There are tons of Jay fans who are about the skills. >
I think there are a lot less than you think. I believe that people like him for those other reasons and then make a case for his skills on the mic. Not to say he doesn't have them, but he is a cruise control more times than not and these stans would have you thinking he was the greatest lyricist in the world.
>I think that on *average* Jay-Z's fans are more >commercial but there are legions of Jay fans who >are fans of his skills >
again, I don't think "legions" is correct. I know plenty of people would argue that but at the end of the day a lot of those people are the ones who you are claiming are "average" > >The thing about Jay-Z stans is that they are LOUDER >than Nas stans and absolutely do use things that are >irrelevant to make their arguments (who is married to >who, etc) > >
Agreed. and this was my point. their reason for feeling like they have to be LOUDER is similar to the mindset of Jay's whole steez.
>Problem with Jay is that he actually makes a LOT of >REALLY shitty music and his stans really never hold >him accountable for it. >
Yea, he really does and that double standard is the thing that kills me.
>For example, BP2 was horrid; Nas doesn't have an album >half that bad (not even 'Nastradumus' was that bad) > >Jay-Z stans simply pardon it or ignore it > >Same with Kingdom Come -- really mediocre album > >And BP3 had tons of shitty filler >
Agreed.
>Jay stans don't APOLOGIZE for his shitty music; they >just focus on what he does well > >Nas stans, on the other hand APOLOGIZE if the song/album >isn't fucking ILLMATIC > > >Its dumb > >
I don't know if I would say they APOLOGIZE for it. I think that is the wrong word. I'd say that they own up to his shitty material and can admit when he comes incorrect whereas Jay's fan base doesn't.
The more I think about it, no one is apologizing. Not sure why you feel that's a point that needs to be made. It's just simply not true.
> >>This is not a coincidence because Jay is that dude that will >>draw attention to himself by bragging every chance he gets. >>Dude bragged about having a fucking EZ-Pass at one point. >>Jay's whole steez is in your face. He has to tell you at >>every chance he gets that he is the greatest and the reasons >>why. > >Well, that's actually not much different than Slick Rick, >Kane, and all of the legends who he built himself after. > >There is nothing *really* wrong with brag rap, as long as >its introspective and has a cool spin on it. >
Never said there was anything wrong with it at all because ALL MCs do it. But Jay has spent most of his career trying to find new ways of telling people how he's better than others including the listener. And for whatever reason, his fan base doesn't think he's shitting on them. They believe they can relate when 9 times out of 10, they can't.
>Jay-Z does that from time to time. > >'American Gangster' was, imo, damn near classic...he was >bragging but he flipped on some introspective shit > >Same with most GREAT Jay-Z songs ('Heat of the City', etc) > >
I actually loved AG when it dropped but I don't go back to it at all now.
