"Fallon Season 4: Week WON"

well guys.

here we are again

i wanna extend a personal thank you to all of you for a MAGICAL and apparently eyebrow raising 3rd season.

we are finally on the map. i know im getting much props and respect for "my genius choices" but i attribute all of that to you guys.

you are the guys who make this place magical and make this job fun, based on all of your zany choices.

so this year i wanted to do it a lil different.

hopefully this wont be a shark jumper (cause i dont want strangers coming in hogging ish) but i do wanna let you guys know that i really appreciate what yall do (even to the point of getting fired near 4 times for stuff i was about to play)

i begged you guys to make us edgy and i got it.

and for that i wanna give you all

*fanfare"

oprah's voice "A MILLION DOLLAAAAAAAAAAAARS!!!!!!!"

---just kidding.

but i decided to reward our top 5 suggesters.

(look i may be broke next year so don't be all expecting that i'll be in santa quest mode every year)

this is a one year at a time thing.

i had a good year.

so i want you all to have a good year.

let us start with NYC's own Gusto.

gust is in 5th place w/ 9 suggestions:

fact: gusto's "Beat It" suggestion for Universal Record Database got me my first "red light" with the layers on 7.

unbeknowest to all of us, MJ's estate is still up in arms with hands reaching out everywhere. so for a short period (about a year) his music was OFF LIMITS. we never got the memo, and did the song anyway (when he was alive MJJ music was MORE than happy to share their music sans Beatles) but while the new paperwork was being transferred they put a "freeze" until the new estate owners (his kids) were now in place. so they were forgiving and saw this as an oversite and cut u$ a break.

i award our 5th place winner $10 dollars each for his suggestions ($90)

give him a hand!

next up?

dr intricate Johnbook.

now i'll admit, if John woulda just went for lowbrow "would higgins get this?" radar, hedda prolly got a higher score.

cause lord knows the basis of MANY an argument me kirk and james have are mostly over ideas that john comes up with.

i mean he is a thinkers thinker.

but i gotta keep harmony in band and half of the trick with 8 cats is the art of making them THINK its a democracy.

but he gave us gems too: his Manhattan Transfer suggestion for Ashley Greene (here in the twilight....here in the twilight) spawned a sandwich so good we rushed it right to the front of the line ("psssh fuck a sandwich....this is good enough for that next album!!!")---so let's see if this song makes it on number 15.

of course he also legendarily suggested the song that caused the show to "almost" go into overtime (we got 2 hours to get it right, one minute over and all union members get overtime)---fallon did his introduction and stop mid point and faked a cough sent a note over saying "do NOT do "blinded me with science""--so we had to wait 10 mins for the next song to clear with the lawyers for kate holmes (i forgot what we did, something to do with the title)
almost made history with you john. almost.

4th place with 42 suggestions at $15 dollars each ($630 dollars) give it up to JOHNBOOK yall!!!!!

ok yay area's Undeadsinatra was 3rd plizzzzace.

man. i gotta say....you kinda cemented some of the friendships i have to this day over the walkons:

so many to mention:

will's "love me sexy" got me in with Adam and my relationship with the funny or die crew. based on the walkon being the first topic of discussion.

the paul rudd song (a mock paul mccartney song that was a subject of a movie of his) made him an INSTANT fan of ours and set a standard with him that he expects clever walkon songs when he comes. he supports my dj gigs and shows to this day based on that walkon.

but there are 2 suggestions that for the record have to be the roots most craziest documented moment of laughing. its so crazy that occasionally ill pull the file up just so we can all remember how close we are to each other and how we get along (when tension comes)

the cleveland "balls deep" song for tyra and the pause filled "down in the hole" for idris had to damn near be done 8 times before we did it with a straight face in rehearsals. best laugh ever so far. thanks to big guy Dead.

at 43 suggestions its $20 each which is a grand total of $860!

give it up yall!

next up!

2nd place CAPTNISH!

Bill Maher's DC Cab suggestion knocked him the F*** out on some "how the hell did you pull THAT one up!?!?!?!"

Sagat & I are in BFF status based on "Danny Tanner Was Not Gay"

Will Arnett said his cell answering machine was "It Aint Easy Bein White" for about 2 months.

Eva Mendes LOVED Pimps Dont Cry (not enough to gimme number but enough to hug me when she sees me)

and Jen Garner's "Im fucking Ben Afflek" cause minor tension but she got it instantly and mentioned it during commercials.

and of course you saw how Lawman FLOORED Costas and got a mention in Rolling Stone.

give this man a hand yall:

$25 bucks each i award him $1125 for 45 suggestions.

and finally at no surprise (Tom wins cause early bird catches the worm and he jumps on suggestions like instantly!!!!!!)

give it up to your king Handle.

the man who helped me in my mission of being the new walkon prince (all respect to paul the king)

i mean the memos and notes and near firings and bffings and near sandwich classic morph songs...man Tom had SO many highlights:

SNL director memo'd me "good borat" walkon for Julianna Margulies
friggin David Wain a dude i aint know from a can of paint is now "MY MAN!" based on "Sexy Beast"
Padma will rub her fingers through my hair next time!!!!! (damn you JIMMY!)
Howie Mandel rubbed elbows with me during commercial cause "Howie Do It" was so clever
Patton and i were cool, but DAMN he loved Chipmunk Song & Xmas Shoes---i knew that bit but forgot about it til you reminded me about it
my crush Allison missed the "Hot Slut" reference. but its Creator Miles & i FINALLY got footing on a very shaky kinship based on that song. (just cause we work together dont mean we are all bffs. and sometimes something as small as "hey they used my song!!!!!!!!!" makes all the difference.
Mickey's Monkey was a GREAT blooper moment in the rehearsal room with Kirk (Rouke)
You helped us give Chuck Berry & his fucking 2 million dollars the finger for MJ Fox by suggesting my fathers sound alike "The Clock" (my dad was VERY grateful for the check btw)
Joe Gordon's parents LOVED the Levitz commercial walkon
Jimmy adores 60 Mins.

and of course: Lyin made me a starah lol (i had to go through at LEAST one controversy in my career in hip hop for it to be legit

---look i dont wanna make this like "scraps for the minions" who upped my social life

but i just wanna show love to you guys and let yall know i appreciate all yall do.

your winner for the most suggestions in our 3rd season:

Tom Handle Hayes with 56 suggstions at $35 bucks: $1680

thank you all.

if i were wealthy enough to award all of you i would.

please know this is NOT taken for granted.

the highlight of the show? to me?

are your walkon suggestions.

lets have a great season 4 yall!

Lou Dobbs "illegal Alien" memo from Brian Willie. classic!
Stone Cold Dr Evil even thought The Mccartney Rutles song was "great" (per jim)

January Jones
Calendar Girl - Neil Sadka (retired)
(I counted it "retired" after it was first suggested.)

Why? Her name is also a month.

----
Jeffrey TambOR (I can give you 15 great suggestions for him, but I won't unless asked.)

God Damn IT!!!! He's too fucking classic!! "And Justice For All", The FUCKING ROPERS!!, t, Hank Kingsley, George and Oscar Bluth,

And DIRTY OLD BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hank Kingsley Meets Wu Tang Clan.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBNlhoNMIzM

Wow, this was fucking GREAT!!!!!!!

My suggestion:
Oscar Bluth - All You Need Is Smiles Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeFeRh9qwZA

Why? This song prompted Joan Baez to call him "the shallowest man in the world."

---
Edit: Eric Church
Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT2wzfywnYM

Why? He starts his "I pledge allegiance to the (Merle) Hag(gaard)" with it.

Look, this man is a GIANT in the world of comedy for his portal of Hanks Kingsley and I want to make sure that if you don't go the Oscar/George Bluth route that you honor Hank.

His cathphrase, of course, is Hey Now! (As explained here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D89eOYo0kpw )

His second catchphrase is oh corues "Fuckers!"

Here' are some of his best moments:
Best of Hank Kingsley Part 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN9tCQsWkdY
Best of Hank Kingsley Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkaaSLllo_E
Best of Hank Kingsley Part 3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZWqr9T7H4I
At the Emmy's : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34pLyeP8-As

Many, many songs have the words "Hey Now" in them, here are three that are walkover worthy, IMHO.

1. Smashmouth - Hey Now, You're A Rockstar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT50e9VSEkQ#t=36

Why? Very upbeat and recognizable.

2. Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjBwAYIxUso#t=34

The song that immediately came to find - but kinda slow for a walk-on.

3. Talking Heads - Hey Now
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XG9qDl0EEtI#t=30

Why? Because the Hillary Duff song is so much lamer.

And there's always "Down with the King(sley)" by RUN DMC.

January Jones
Aerosmith's "Pink"

REASON: She apparently has pink color in her hair as of yesterday.

Jeffrey Tambor
Hank Ballard & The Midnighters' "Finger Popping Time"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWIH91sH1mI
REASON: As Hank Kingsley in THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW, his saying was "hey now". Extra bonus points if Steve Higgins can introduce him on.

January Jones: Bon Iver 'For Emma' - JJ played Emma Frost in X-Men:First Class...

Jeffrey Tambor - I was going to suggest 'Green Tambourine' by the Lemon Pipers if it was at all close to St. Pat's, but I'm tired of copping out w/name puns as the easy way of suggesting something. INstead - 'Poseidon (Neptune)' by Chase, from the Ennea album, their cycle of jazz/prog songs based on Greek myth. Why? Tambor was the voice of Neptune in the Sponge Bob movie.

*edit* couldn't find the single piece, but it's the third movement in here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-YyMpHtOpA

Jon Hamm
Chuck Cornish's "Ali Funky Thing"
REASON: It's the source of the sample in Cypress Hill's "Pigs", and at the end of the song, B-Real says "how about a ham sandwich?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2a8x8g-ELI

Rachael Harris
Kalapana's "Naturally"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w19La3G9oy4
REASON: Hawaiian pop song from 1975, this was huge back home. She stars in NATURAL SELECTION, so if you wish, commit to the Yacht Rock beauty of this song. The part of the song you can do begins at the 2:52 mark, and you'll see the lyrics:
"over oceans... naturally"
over mountains... naturally
over hill sides... naturally"

I'll give it a shot. This would be one of my many "homesick" songs.

Rachael Harris
"(Where Do I Begin?) Love Story" - music by Francis Lai and lyrics by Carl Sigman. Covered many, many times. Her'es the Andy Williams version that was the first hit version of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxEazBfPVFg

(this is a very obscure choice-- a shout out to her work on VH1's "I Love The 70s" when they were talking about "Love Story." They show Ali McGraw saying 'Love means never having to say your sorry." and cut to Rachel harris saying "WHAT?" What does that even mean?" Easily for me one of the funnies things to ever be shown on that I Love The... series.)

MG Marcus Foster
"Rushes And Reeds"

Jennifer Lawrence
I can NOT for the life of me find a link to my suggestion ANYWHERE. Last time I even emailed John Sebastin (form his website) to get a copy but he doesn't have one handy.

It was the theme song for a TV show that aired from 1976 to about 1980 in the Los Angeles area called "That's Cat."

Whitman Mayo (Sanford and Son's Grady) played "grandpa" on the show. Link to wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/That\'s_Cat

Can some crazy librarian at NBC find the song??

Why? She plays KATniss Everdeen in The Hunger games. (It's a long shot for sure.)

Suggestion that might be used:

Games Without Frontiers - Peter Gabriel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xh_2cTp-Ixs

Why? The Hunger Games.

------------
Chris Jericho
Break Down the Walls by Jim Johnston and Adam Morenoff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQXGa6N10Nk

Why? This is what he uses as his walkout music now.

------
comedian: Wendy Liebman
Arrested Development - Mr. Wendal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyDjRd0Tjss

Why? If there's one adjective to describe a Wendy it's "WEND-AL."

#1: Another unreleased/unobtainable song:

"Rue's Lullaby" by Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen

This is the song Katniss sings to Rue after she is killed. Jennifer Lawrence is singing the song herself in the movie AND it will NOT be on the soundtrack.

Unfortunately only those who have seen the film (meaning NOT US) have heard it so far. Can some NBC librarian there get a hold of it?

----------
#2: My actual suggestion:

ABC - Poison Arrow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAAnF9EMfk8#t=2m50s

Why? Katniss's weapon in The Hunger Games is the bow and arrow. Jennifer Lawrence reportedly took a lot of archery lessons in preparation for the film.

I've rethought my Peter Gabriel suggestion - it's too slow.

Jennifer Lawrence
Twisted Hunter's "Stay Hungry"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1RLJTxF9hs
REASON: She will be in HUNGER GAMES, thus the chorus (at 0:45) would work.

Chris Jericho
The Novas' "The Crusher"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYAGcoOymvo
REASON: "The Crusher" is one of countless wrestling-related records from the 60's, and while not Jericho's songs, wrestling nerds/geeks will get it.

Jennifer Lawrence: Chic Mystique; she played Mystique in X-Men First Class, so that ties in with my suggestion above...

Chris Jericho: in reference to JOshua fighting the battle of Jericho, where the walls came a-tumblin' down, I suggest the chorus from either John Cougar Mellencamp 'Crumblin' Down' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PErUiAyVoGc) or Style Council's 'The Walls Come Tumbling Down' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElhC1jFz7-c).

I'd consider Sly retired for JM.

Check out the spreadsheet of previous suggestions - we all want you (and everyone else) to get as many as possible. But we "retire" some suggestions (like Musial, or January Jones) and don't get "repeat" credit. (I'd have gotten 3 for JJ instead of 1.)

And welcome to the game

Candice Bergen
"Coronet Blue" theme song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yDj2sx8bj0
REASON: She had been in a lot of "sexually liberating" films, but couldn't find any soundtracks for them. Went for a show she appeared on briefly, called CORONET BLUE, which fits in with the spirit of her early movies. It's a "swinging" song (musically, not sexually) from the mid-60's so I figure I'll go for this, bring her back to a younger time if she remembers the song.

Fergie
Dangermouse & MF DOOM's "Vats Of Urine"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKJ523x0qo8
REASON: Her forever being "pee pee girl"
http://www.jiveturkeyjives.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/fergie.jpg

Jeff Musial
Gene & Wendell's "The Roach"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfzSyAqBN3A
REASON: I realize you have his set song, but I'll go for this one. As heard in HAIRSPRAY.

Jeff Musial: Schoolhouse Rock '4-Legged Zoo' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIL09nlmGuQ - dude's supposed to be all about educating people about animals, and this song's about educating people WITH animals. Llama, alpaca, vicuna too.

Christian Slater
Concrete Blonde - Everybody Knows (Leonard Cohen cover)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaJAxdGeZ4E

Why? Pump up the volume. TALK HARD!!! (And yes, he has about 5 obvious songs to pick from, ask if you need more.)

---------------
Bethenny Frankel
Joe Tex - "Skinny Legs And All"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2Cfh8ThiFg

Why? She uses the name "Skinny Girl" for her books and other products.

(Madvillian says "And won't take the one with no skinny legs like Joe Tex.")

----
Dr Dog
The Specials - Do the Dog
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWpQ54f8cA4

Why? I'm suggesting songs by others.

Bethenny - if it were me I'd do Slimm Calhoun's The Skinny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lub3xdg-uoY
but not many Fallon watchers will get that one so maybe Birdy - Skinny Love

Christian Slater
So many songs for him, but I'll go with:
M|A|R|R|S' "Pump Up The Volume"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B87snXgV7Pg
REASON: Two parts would be good:
1) the part where Kool & The Gang's "Jungle Jazz" is used, before the Rakim sample comes in

or my preferred choice
2) the part of the song that samples "It's Just Begun" at 2:24, so someone can say:
"it's just...
it's just...
it's just...
it's just...
...tsuj s'it
...tsuj s'it
it's just be GU-U-U-U-U-U-N", as a way to say her interview will now begin.

Or feel free to do the part at 4:52 that brings in "Din Daa Daa"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrtwCXeKsvg

Bethenny Frankel
Antoine Dodson's "Hide Your Kids, Hide Your Wife"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LEWVGXtuqo
REASON: She's known for all of her wife-related shows.

Fleetwood Mac's "The Green Manalishi (With The Two Pronged Crown)"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTvKaLW5bu8
REASON: They're influenced by a lot of 60's pop, rock, and blues rock, and almost every rock band goes through a Fleetwood Mac discovery phase, or more specifically, the pre-Bellingham/Nicks era. I was originally going to pick "Black Magic Woman", also a Fleetwood Mac song, but this song is also known for its cover by Judas Priest. Since it is trippy and psychedelic, I'll go for this as it seems like something they may find on the radio at 2am or download and go "WHOA!"

Dr. Dog's "Swampadelic Pop"
http://youtu.be/2lN1dmCFNYc
This is from their actual first album PSYCHEDELIC SWAMP, one which allegedly was not released and the group did "not" release. But it goes back to their lo-fi roots, almost sounds like a Ween song.

Christian Slater: 'I Like the Christian Life' - ironic, since he doesn't seem like the kind of guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUJZwmgqAII

Bethenny Frankel: best idea I have is to use 'My Prerogative' and sing 'no preservatives.': "In April 2011, Frankel sold her Skinnygirl cocktail line to Fortune Brands' Beam Global for an alleged $120 million dollars. In October 2011, E! Online reported that the sale was actually closer to $8.1 million. It was subsequently pulled from Whole Foods Market shelves in August 2011 after it was discovered not to meet Whole Food's quality standards due to preservatives in the product, contrary to its advertisement which stated "no preservatives.""

i would do this shit for free obviously.
getting to brag to my friend's that i'm quest's "musical consultant" is more then enough. not that anyone believes that shit. lol.

(but i did actually contemplate doing standby there on the days that josh topolsky is there, so i might luck up on some tech swag.
but since he left engadget im not sure he's given anything away there anymore)

This was completely unexpected.

Being able to funnel songs to you and then hear them on air is amazing. And that people like Glazer and Patton enjoy them makes it so much better.

And the ones that didn't work were rewarding too -- Hungarian Dance No. 5 in G Minor slayed me.

I'm definitely frustrated when my "perfect" song isn't picked, but it's ALWAYS fun. Unless someone else got the "perfect" song in before I did - Barbabra Ann is the perfect example.

Thanks for the shout out (and the cash-out)- and expect me to visit again next summer.
