"how Come Jon B didn't get the exposure as Thicke?"

believe it or not White on White crime musically counts and this is the latest example. I mean Jon B. rings circles around Thicke.

Better Songwriter

Better producer

Better vocalist

more versatile

so i wonder how come Jon B. ain't got the juice that corny Thicke still gets?

obvious answer is the last name and good Payola, however Thicke is striving to be the First Modern White Cat who dabbles in R&B and Hip-Hop Hooks going to direct to video Unsung.

Jon B can play, but seems to be getting the Bob Ucker treatment into the bleachers.

first album was on Nu American/interscope, Babyface short-lived label with Andre Harrell.

And Jon B had hits, and plenty of shine. It wasn't until the 2pac song, and he started going rapper-crazy on his records with features that he started to swing down. His downturn also came at the same time that Face 'semi-retired'...

Jon was hardly unheralded, he just had his time... And if he wants to keep making the synthy, club trash of his last record, then his time is over.

add on that
i think the lil wayne affiliation made him 'hip'
& his actress wife being a video model for free helped.
jon's biggest claim to fame is the song he did with 2pac.
jon had some really big songs but it pretty much stayed on the r&b/black radio level (where you find cats like joe, tank, kem, etc)

I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories...but I think Jon B. greatly reduced profile has alot to do with the Jack Herrera album...the record itself had overall themes of unity, thinking for yourself, spiritual awareness, upliftment, and revolution using live music and musicianship to carry the message...around that time (99-2000) is when we saw the majors making an agressive push to highlight dumb shit in Black music...

Jon and his record company fought over this record then out of nowhere alot of bad shit happened to ol boy. His marriage crumbled, his house and studio burned to the ground, the label (Yab Yum) folded and he didnt land on any other major label...

Jon pissed somebody off and got blacklisted...just a theory

Matthew Knowles and unlike 2002 i don't expect much return.

also Jon B co signed MJ and his stance against Sony which didn't win him any support.

though i grooved to JON B working with Kay Gee i knew he was getting shafted.

and its always the rule one White cat doing R&B at a time rule.

meaning the one that real bread is on. Thicke got bread on him, however folks ain't felt him in years.

i be like you got a broke El Debarge/MJ thing going on and what else? all the money spent on him to make down, cool and soulful and he just feels constipated like a cool lounge "Love Boat" act out at sea.

Also, because Thicke got a second chance. Let's not forget that Fifth of Beethoven song of his that bricked in the 90s.

Sounds like you guys haven't been following Thicke. First, some of you were right, he was signed by Andre Harrell back in the day. But he's been in the music industry for a while writing for other people. So he paid his dues.

Second, his first album was the ish! Cherry Blue Skies/Beautiful World was amazing. But they marketed it to the 106 and park crowd at the time. It was the wrong market.
